  7. Bringing him up would destroy any trade value.
  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 08:30 AM) I swear! One guy gets reamed because he shows little emotion and people say he doesn't care. Someone else throws down a bat and gets ripped for pouting. THAT is what is getting old. Yeah we really beat that topic to death on this site. :rolly We all enjoy seeing a little emotion from out players but we'd prefer they run the bases first.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 07:25 AM) Has anyone of those players singlehandedly made multiple players better around them? What would be the net effect of having Ben Davis behind the plate for all of those games vs AJ. Tell me that guys like Garland and Contreras would be having the years they are having with Jaime Burke behind the plate. Tell me how many key hits that Chris Widger would have had if he was playing everyday. No one is denying that those guys you listed are important, but the guy that is most valuable to this team is AJ. It's not everyday a guy can be on pace to having his worst full season as an everyday player in the majors and be considered by the fans to be the team's MVP. I'm not saying we should've given the starting job to Burke or Davis, but a guy like Zaun would've been a nice move. I don't know how you can be so certain our staff would be affected adversely by a guy like Zaun. Obviously Contreras has pitched better with AJ and AJ got through to him for awhile, but he has had more difficulty with him lately and isn't making as much of a difference. As for Garland, if I'm not mistaken both of his back-to-back shutouts were caught by Widger. AJ has been pretty good behind the plate and calls a nice game, but slamming the bat down after every pop-up and pouting on strikeouts is getting old. I think we should expect more from him offensively.
  10. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 13, 2005 -> 06:03 AM) though another FLA article mentioned a Marlins scout attended the A's series Rut roh. Did anyone look good in that series?
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) Not the league's mvp but he's been our's imo as well. You can make a case for several guys and that's one reason we are where we are but AJ's my pick at this point. That surprises me. You'd keep AJ over Buehrle, Hermanson, Thomas, Garland, etc.? That would have to be the case if he is your 'most valuable' player. Widger has an idential OPS to AJ with our staff having a lower ERA with Widge behind the plate and that dude was playing softball last year. I'm not saying Widge is better but come on.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) I hope that KW has a 3 year deal in his back pocket for our MVP. MVP?! Let's not go overboard.

    The Gooch

It's probably a combination of giving himself up so many times and the scouting report calling for breaking balls in the dirt.
  17. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) Consider for a minute that the vast, vast majority of pitchers in this league are right-handed. Aaron against right-handers: AB: 218 OPS: .675 AVG: .252 I love Aaron out in the field, and I am hoping that he can finish the year with a .280 to .285 AVG, but he's extremely ineffective vs. right-handed pitching. Is that who you want batting the the #3 hole? IMO, no freaking way. The strange thing is, last year he actually hit RHP better than he did LHP. Like .315 on the year. For much less power than against LHP though so his OPS against righties was lower but still he was making good contact. I guess it was just an anomaly. Either way, discussing this year's Rowand in the 3 hole with the other players we have on this team is not a good idea.
  18. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) The new Sox lineup: Pods, Iguchi, Omar, Griffey, Thomas, Koney, Dye, AJ, Crede The new Sox bench: Widger, Everett, Gload, Rowand, Uribe The rotation: Buerhle, Garcia, Garland, Contra, El Duque The bullpen: solid short starter, Cotts, Politte, Hermanson, Marte/Jenks, Shingo/Vizc For what we would be getting I really don't like the amount of minor league talent it would realistically take. You've added Omar Vizquel, Ken Griffey Jr., and a solid short starter to our team while only subtracting Harris, Ozuna, and Perez. Who are you advocating we give up from the farm? Because with only those three players made expendable, it's going to take much more to obtain what you want via trade.
  19. Timo's game winning hit against the Angels of course.
  20. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 11, 2005 -> 07:50 AM) Good riddance to the A's, we no longer see them, and contrary to what seems to be the popular opinion of this message board, the A's will NOT be making the playoffs. Also, contrary to the belief that the Angles aren't that good...um, well...the Angles ARE that good, while the A's are simply on a hot streak, which, with the all star break, is all but over. Momentum shifts are nullified by the ASB, both on the winning and losing side of things. I'll say this again, and you can bank on it: The Angles will be in the playoffs, the A's will not be. The A's have had a bunch of injuries and are still dealing with some. Considering that, they are only 4.5 games out of the wild card. I'm not banking on anything yet.
  21. QUOTE(needauribe @ Jul 10, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) I've got that one. It's kind of tough for me deciding when/where to wear it. I don't want little kids to see it and I don't want to get my ass *kicked by a drunk cubs fan somewhere. *raped
