But to average 174 hits with 33 home runs and 108 rbi's over 19 seasons in the major leagues is damn impressive. Obviously those will drop as he keeps playing but still solid. There's something to be said for consistency. And to those who keep saying he was never close to getting an MVP he finished top 10 in voting 3 times. So I guess it all depends what your definition of close is but I thought it was notable.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) Okay lets take out just his worst outing: His new era is 5. If we take out his 2 worst outings, his new era is 4.16 If you take out 3 of his worst outings, his era is 3.5 (All of these numbers are slightly rounded) Did you round up? I got 4.88, then 4.00, then 3.08.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) It's not a gripe.. it's simply an opinion backed by the opinions of guys who have watched him play hundreds of games. My response wasn't directed towards you. I was writing about what Fotop said his main gripe was.
-
I understand your gripe. But I've never had the chance to watch enough baseball outside of the White Sox (and Cubs if I chose for some reason) to make a valid decision. Watching him play about 10 games per year doesn't really allow me to decipher wether I'm watching a HOF'er or not. Statistics do. Just looking at players who have HOF monitor scores around Palmiero's are all in the Hall. I'm not saying this is the end all be all. It gives me a good idea of when he will be enlisted though.

In if date works.

Palmiero will be a first ballot. On Bill James' HOF Monitor stat, Palmeiro scores a 156. This stat determines how likely it is a player will enter the hall of fame. A score of 100 means the players has a good chance to enter the Hall of Fame. A score of 130 means the player is a practically a shoe-in. With 156, Palmiero ranks 63rd amongst every batter to ever play the game and that number can only rise.

A guy with a ~1 ERA in AAA has trade value but a guy with a high ERA in the show does not. I think this is the reason Baj is stuck.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) The White Sox haven't done squat in the post season so I expect to be the underdogs.. As for Raffy.. I agree with him. Raffy HAS been subpar his entire career. 4 AS appearances in 20 years.. no way is he a first ballot HOF'er. What? I don't think it's fair to call a 3000 hit, 500 home run major leaguer subpar. A career 132 OPS+ player is subpar? Here are players that baseball-reference.com listed as similar to Palmiero through the same age: Eddie Murray Frank Robinson Carl Yastrzemski Fred McGriff Al Kaline Reggie Jackson Willie Mays Dave Winfield Mike Schmidt Andre Dawson Good company, no? (8 of those 10 are HOF'ers)

The wave and throwing the ball back are two things that should try to be avoided at U.S. Cellular.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) Can i still call him meatball or no? Until the ERA goes to the 3's.

QUOTE(fry the twinkies @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) They kicked me off for spelling Pujols's name "Pooholes", although I did get a new computer. Is the IP different on a new computer haha ok you can stay.

QUOTE(fry the twinkies @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) I'm a fan of Chicago baseball. I'm a fan of baseball. I have my teams I like and my teams I hate, but the only time I root against the Sox is when they play the Cubs. www.nsbb.com

QUOTE(fry the twinkies @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 10:47 PM) There was no point to this move. If they had traded Hollandsworth, I can understand. And what the hell will the Cubs do now? Murton has been en fuego since coming up. WHY WON'T DUSTY PLAY THE KIDS!!!!!!??? MEMO TO DUSTY BAKER: PLAY THE KIDS!!!!! who are you?

I keep thinking this guy should be a top notch reliever. He has a nice arsenal of pitches, so for the love of god don't throw sliders exclusively.

QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) would a thread reading "670 reports shingo is gone" be more palatable? Did they mention for whom?

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) You think an "OH-EE-OH, BIG ASSHOLE" sign would get me kicked out? I don't know. You could probably do better though.

I found that show to be incredibly lame. Piven is awesome though.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) Good things come in small packages. Yeah, size doesn't matter. ::crosses fingers on this cliche::

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Ick -- I didn't know he was signed through next season. Well it's actually a 4.95 team or 4.5 player '06 option. Probably he will exersice that, I don't see anyone giving him more in FA but who knows.
-
LOL Guillen was complaining about being hit on the toe which the ump missed so Hernandez hits him in the head on the very next pitch. Don't mess with that guy. And in the scrum I think I saw Magglio jumping on people with his spikes hahaah.
-
Just an average pitcher who will make ~$5 mil next season isn't the most attractive of options. I'd rather be paying that amount to him than El Duque though.
-
I wanted to add to this thread, but couldn't think of anything to contribute. I guess if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
-
If we got Lilly then I would leg-kick Duque out of here without hesitation.
