The easiest way to solve a summation equation with only 5 k values like the one you provided is to simply do by hand or calculator (if it is allowed). I don't know if all the problems are that easy, but ones similar to that will take you one minute with paper and pencil. Solution: [1/(0+1)] + [1/(1+1)] + [1/(4+1)] + [1/(9+1)] + [1/(16+1)] = 158/85
