QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) i had to submit to that comparison, i never listened to born to run that much, and thats where they say it came from...hell i said it was like mark e. smith at first due to him speaking and not singing...but whatever, they are a really fun band, very crazy on stage, actually, haha, i said he sounds like gene wilder singing that song on the boat in willy wonka and the chocolate factory...when he starts screaming...i love it... but the constantines were sick live too, i should mention, i left the show more impressed by them than anyone. Especially with tournament of hearts material, which i didn't really listen to that much. I was more in love with shine a light and s/t I gotta get up on The Constantines, thx for the tip.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) it was awesome because i got to see the hold steady in their true setting, a damn grizzly small as hell bar, intonation was not a good place for them to play. Their awesome riffs just cut at you like helicoptor blades, and that ridiculous bruce springstein rambling for every song does not get old. It was awesome really. yes, i like crooked rain, crooked rain better as an album, but i don't think i'd buy it remastered because i think it was well enough on its own. 5-4=Unity is a favorite of mine as well as cut your hair, so many actually, yet slanted and enchanted has more sentimental songs to me, summer babe and zurich is stained being the highlights. A great album and i'd recommend the Luxe and Reduxe set...48 songs for 15 bucks was well worth it. Congrats matador. As for the rest of pavement albums i love terror twilight and wowee zowee, zowee probably the most inconsistent but has the highest highs, see rattled by the rush, and brighten the corners by default is my least favorite, but still gets plenty of listening time. Pavement is an alltime favorite band of mine. Never dissapointing in releases, cept for SM's self titled and that doesn't count. Sounds awesome, I'm jealous. I hear a lot of comparisons to Springsteen, which in my opinion are neither accurate or a compliment. I read someone say his vocals are 'like being cornered at a party by a drunk, only this drunk is friendly and smart'. That's probably more like it.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 6, 2005 -> 02:45 AM) i also just bought pavement - slanted and enchanted luxe and reduxe, i was really excited to hear this album remastered and finally got around to purchasing it...i love this album...and its a very well album remastered, it finally gets loud... It really is a brilliant album that sparked a million bands...i feel bad it got a hex enduction hour rip off because the similarities do not merit the label. That and "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain' are just plain f***in' brilliant.

AWESOME!!!

I have no way of knowing what to expect. I've only seen that 10 second preview.

Rape is violent, hate crime. To call it anything else is to try to find an excuse for it.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 12:02 PM) Well, what was the FIRST comments about this? Bad girl, stupid choice. As opposed to WHAT KIND OF f***ING ASSHOLE RAPES A GIRL WITH 5 OF HIS CLOSEST FRIENDS? Essentially, focusing first on the victim's behavior reduces the accountability that we put on the perps for RAPING someone. I see your point, but some things go without say. Is there really any question that what happened to her is horrible and that the people who allegedly raped her and all rapists are less than human?

QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) So true. Anybody who thinks their family is too smart to have this happen to them could be in for a rude awakening. I've seen a lot of smart girls do some really dumb things when they were drunk and even sober. The fact that anyone assumes that they are too smart to get raped leads victims not to talk because they don't want to destroy the image you have for them. We all do stupid things and there is a very good chance this woman never did a dumb thing in her life before that night. One mistake. I would like to be the first to commend this woman for standing up for herself and not being afraid of her attackers. Well, that's a convenient spin on words. I don't recall anyone saying someone was 'too smart to get raped'. But you do have to be smart enough to recognize potentially dangerous situations. Maybe it was the 1st time she made a bad decision, but like you wrote, it WAS a mistake. I guess since I can look at both sides of the issue I must be pro rape and a woman hater.....

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) Not me. I dont play favorites. .....and my sister would never put herself in that situation, she knew beter at probably the age of 3.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 09:59 AM) You'd hope that anyone could get into a van full of US soldiers without being raped regardless of the amount of alcohol...save maybe Osama Bin Laden. Soldiers are expected to be disciplined, but maybe not putting salt peeter into their eggs at basic training might help. I'd be pissed if I couldn't get erection for two months. I'm sure we'd all hope that, but this is not Mr. f***in Rogers neighborhood.

The link won't work for me, but if it's Tyson and Brown, I saw it on GN this morning. HILARIOUS.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 02:22 AM) Trusting strangers is a bad idea no matter who they are. The fact that they were Marines should be irrelevant. I think a really good question to ask here is how many girls have to be raped and or killed before people learn to use common sense and take better care of themselves? A lot more people would be alive today if they would simply take some responsibility for their actions. Unfortunately in this world we live in being the responsible one makes you the outcast, the nerd, the "buzzkill". As long as that's the prevailing attitude then Darwinism is gonna keep right on picking people off one at a time and Im gonna go right on saying "I told ya so". If 80% of rapes are commited by men that the victim knows well, then what should the lesson be? Maybe that if a guy you know well is capable or raping you, then maybe, just maybe getting into a van with 6 guys you met that same night, is bad judgement. Common sense, the least common of all senses.

I'll have to try that at my next interview.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 08:09 PM) I see this thread as an example of immense progress. Only four dickheads (so far) thought the subject of gang rape was a good subject for a joke or a blame the victim statement. We’ve come a long way, baby. Who is joking, who is 'blaming' the victim and who exactly are the dickheads? I wasn't joking or blaming the victim, but I'm pretty sure calling people who have a different opinion from your own 'dickheads' is immense progress, or at least ironic. Take a bow.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) If a guy walks down the street wearing a nice suit, a nice watch, and is carrying $500 and gets mugged, was that a bad choice? If the accusations are true, she allowed herself to get tricked by rapists. Yes, Nuke she made a poor decision to hang out with rapists. I doubt if you were hanging out with 5 buddies, you would be thinking, let's find some woman and rape her? Bad comparison. If the guy in your example does all of that in Beverly Hills and gets mugged, it's bad luck. If he does it in a s***ty neighborhood, then YES, it's a very bad decision. Similarly, if this girl had left with a guy she knew pretty well, it's horrible luck. She left with 6 guys she'd meet that night, very bad decision. Again, if they're guilty, they should go to prison.
-
6 strange men, 1 chick, in a van? Bad choice. Doesn't excuse it, but that was some very bad decision making on her part.

Where do I find and how do I get "NANANA HEY HEY HEY" by Steam as a ringtone for a cell phone? I have Sprint and they don't offer it.

What Sox championship memorabilia do you recommend
LosMediasBlancas replied to Funkman7's topic in Pale Hose Talk

QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 10:56 AM) I'm not saying that, all I'm saying is after years and years of playing up the "Cub fans only go to the games for the neighborhood and the ballpark" theory, Sox fans may end up in a similar situation. Irony......Catch It! I knew exactly what you meant, I was piling on.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) Here comes Cellville. And with it the frat boys/trixies who know nothing about the games and are only there for the "USCF experience", and the in-house scalping service, and the sold-out games in September when the team is 15 games out of the playoff hunt, and..... Yep, I'd much rather keep it difficult for people to go to games. Development is a waste of time, I prefer places like Moe's Tavern and The Bucket of Blood there instead. After all, those kinds of businesses have done so much to bring revenue to the area and the team. I also don't want to see any new fans at the park. l'll take 15,000 'diehards' at every home game over a sell out full of newbies. With the years and years of success this team had had, why the Eff would anyone try something different?

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Nov 2, 2005 -> 05:20 PM) I thought tosser was an individual that preferred sexual relations with the same sex. Tosser, as in to 'toss', as in to take matter into your own hands.

That's great news for you suburbanites. Now maybe the CTA will get off it's ass and run more trains before and especially after games.
