Is it just me or does the Score670 suck now?
LosMediasBlancas replied to ltravisjr's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Mike North is a cornerstone at The Score. Need I say more? -
QUOTE(hi8is @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) i dont understand what was so scary about the ring... maybe im just cold blooded. If nothing in a movie has ever scared you, then maybe you are cold blooded. If you're saying that you've been scared at other movies, but not at 'The Ring', then maybe it just didn't do it for you. There are a few different ways to scare people.

Buehrle thinks Rangers might be cheating

I have to agree with Mark, it does make him sound like he's making excuses. Get ready for the onslaught. -
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 06:42 PM) Robert DeNiro movies have sucked recently. He wants more screen time than his characters deserve or something like that. I probably watched Godsend the same time you were watching it. It definitely blew. Ring 1 sucked. I can't imagine the second one not being worse. It's funny, I think people are SO far apart on 'The Ring' and 'Napoleon Dynamite'. You'll find few people who will say either of those movies was just OK. Everyone seems to either love them or absolutely hate them. I have to add 'Saw' to that list also. 'The Ring' was the first horror movie since 'The Exorcist' to make the hairs on my neck stand up. 'The Ring 2' blows mules.

QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) i agree, that 'shoe gaze' genre as has been called upon by others to me so i'll adopt it...seems so restrictive...yet i usually love every album and they all doo sound different...reminds me of pavement...they sound like the same band...same genre of music...but its definately different, in terms of confidence or meddling or producing...each album is its own gem...and odditorium or the warlords of mars i believe its called is an excellent album. and if nobody minds me venting on pitchfork, they have helped me find a lot of bands and quite a bit of garbage, but why they hype pop rap sooo much is beyond me...i think music critics get frustrated in their lack of voice if they are not reporting on the culture as much as the music...i see greg kot and jim devrounses seem to get frustrated and i think pitchfork overcompensates by saying, LOOK, we like hip hop! when acts like the roots and saul williams, dizzee rascal, and common are more accepted by the indie scene, they hype kanye west, jay - z, and others...i just find it odd and stupid. There is nooo f'n way that kanyes latest album is a 9.5...and better or more influential than sufjan stevens album...or s***, sooo many albums were better...kanye recycled raps and his beats were glossed over... I just remember the Dandy's were very pretty and really had the 'hype machine' behind them. Those two things usually mean a 1 hit wonder career. They've always been very talented, nice to see them still around. As for rap, I used to follow the underground. I'm not even sure if hip hop exists any more. Rap is alive and crappy as usual, but what happened to 'hip hop'? I ocassionally read pop matters and pitchfork by the way.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) The Warhols definitely have a disco-rock feel about them It impresses me that they still make good, relevant music. I didn't think they'd last.

QUOTE(Spiff @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) Broken Flowers is really bad. Really bad. Thx for the tip, we were gonna see that tomorrow. Gotta somehow talk the wife out of it.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:16 AM) Hey man, I got nothing really against the Crowes. If they were to become the biggest band in history I would be cool with that. I just prefer their roots to what they have done with them, that's all. But I would NEVER in a million years fault anybody for liking a straight up RnR band, and I would NEVER in a million years hope for anything bad to happen to a band that could maybe bring REAL RnR back onto the airwaves. I just wish more of their fans would pay attention to the past bands that influenced them. I hope you knew I was just bustin' your balls. (Can I still say that?) I agree with you and feel the same way about a few other bands. I don't know what conversatiions you've had with Crowes fans, but all the ones I know are WELL aware of rock n roll history. I'm off to listen to (the-not-at-all-influenced-by-the-Beatles) Oasis and The Redwalls.

QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 11:59 PM) yeah, i kinda thought they broke up...i was suprised to see their name... Not sure which band you were referring to. TBJM has had a lot of member changes and taken a few breaks. The Crowes have also had a few member changes and broke up for like 4 years. But they're BACK baby. I'm sure Kid Gleason is ecstatic.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:08 AM) I'll never understand this theory. Why do people hate hollywood endings so much? People go to movies to get away from reality, not to see a bad guy get away with a murder. I could open up a newspaper any given day of any year in any city of any country and read about that. I like when the good guy wins in the end and everything wraps up nicely. I don't go to films to get away from reality. I like my reality just fine. This is why I hate sci-fi. I don't neccessarily hate happy endings, but once in a while it's nice to get a little more reality. Especially when the film has a dark and gritty feel to it. Also, since 99% of films have a happy ending, you always know how it's gonna end.

No matter where you sit, you feel like you're much closer and right on top of the action. Miller Park has a similar feel.
-
Saw 'Cronica" with John Leguizamo today. Not bad, kinda drawn out, but the director's theme in both his movies is that often times, bad guys, or bad people get away with s***. It's refreshing to see a director give you some reality instead of the usual 'good always triumphs over evil, happy ending' non sense.

QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) ssweet...i loved that doc "dig"...i really didn't listen to them until then, i'd been a dandy warhols fan for a while... i first read that as tom petty with the black crowes as like his new backing band Yeah TBJM is still underground, which is just fine with me. NO, thank God. The Crowes opening for Petty was a joke. No way could I see them as his backing band.
-
About a month ago I went to see Tom Petty and The Black Crowes. Mostly The Black Crowes. Although it was enjoyable, an opening slot is always kinda lame because of the shorter set time and poor sound etc. Well, The Crowes will be back. This time to The Riv...on Halloween night. I got a few tickets and it totally made my weekend! Also gonna see The Brian Jonestown Massacre at the Metro in 2 weeks.

QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) I read an article on pitching mechanics in some magazine a while back, and it essentially said that most scientists believe that the human body is not capable of throwing a baseball higher than 101.9 MPH. Its simply the way our muscles are built. Of course, you'd think that people with perhaps more highly built muscles would be able to overcome that, but the article was pretty confident. I'd have to read that for myself. Not a crack at you, but I don't see how anyone can say it's impossible.

My last name traces back to Spain, Basque actually. My parents are from South America.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) He was right around one hundred miles per hour... if he never had that stroke he could have had himself a mighty fine career. Yeah, but there were stories, just like the ones about Jenks that said he'd been clocked a few MPH higher. You're right, he would've gone on and been the s***.
-
I don't know what kind of science can tell you that a guy can't hit 100+ on the gun. I remember a group of scientists saying that a curve ball doesn't really curve too.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) J.R. Richard That's him. I remember his career didn't last very long, but he had serious heat.

QUOTE(Spod=Ratings @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 03:30 AM) WOW, Thats pretty fast , thx man.

Wasn't there a guy on the Astros in the 80's who was clocked at 1030-104 a few times. J.R. Reid? was that his name?

If I'm watching the game and my wife wants to hang out or talk, the game goes off instantly. It didn't used to be that way and I've realized how stupid that was.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) Hey, I ALMOST started a "Griffey Rumor Volume 24" thread.... ....and LMB, AM1000 is actually a radio station.... Yeah, but Bruce shows up on Comcast Sports net occasionally.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Aug 26, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) He did not play in Charlotte tonight, but Borchard did take Shingo deep for #27 That's hilarious. I need footage of that.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 27, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) I didn't hear all the details, but Brooooooooooooth Levine just said on AM1000 that there's still some life in a Griffey deal, and if he signs off on it the deal could be done in the next couple of days. I thought the whole KG2 thing was dead? Oh God. Life because Levine says so in order to get his mug on TV? Lock this thread now.
