  1. As long as every episode has a good, busy story line going, that's fine. Last season kinda felt like they had 4 good ideas and didn't know how to stretch them over an entire season.
  2. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 04:15 PM) And you believe this is the first occasion he's spoken on these terms? Don't be naive, Fickel. I doubt this is the FIRST time he's uttered offensive material infront of a large media crowd. Someone, with a possible agenda, decided to print this information in the midst of Kreuger's firing knowing it'd receive immediate attention. MOVE ON EVERYONE. Nor is Ozzie the first person in a clubhouse to do it.
  3. Sports Center or BBTN did a nice piece on Arrow last night too.
  4. Welcome. Rule #1: You must love Timo.
  5. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) It's wrong because someone used it as a "diss", as someone above called it, even though it was in a playful way. Why is it a diss? You wouldn't try to diss your friends by saying "that is so straight" as if being one way is "right" and being another way is "wrong." Language isn't just there - there's meaning behind it, and we should realize it before we use it. Most boys growing up hate to be told they "throw like a girl," because being equated with women is a no-no in this sexist manly society. It's bulls***. You write like a girl. This is how I see it: I call my close friends gay as a joke. We think it's funny because it's not true and absurd, not because we're homophobic. My wife has a gay friend, sometimes I'll ask him about his girlfriend or if he's gotten any 'cat' lately. Why? Because of course he hasn't, he's gay, it's absurd that he'd be with a woman. He'll fire the same thing back to me in reverse, and we laugh. Now if someone happens to walk by and hears it and they get offended by that, I should feel bad? I understand that Ozzie said it in a different situation and in front of the press, but he was in the clubhouse and his boy came in to say hello. The press was on HIS turf.
  6. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) Just like the one that the Marlins pulled last night. I only saw the end of it, apparently he didn't just fool the runner on 3rd.
  7. QUOTE(Kogs35 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) snitchers come from parents who have to be perfect. they think they are being rewarded only when it bites em back in the ass through out there lifes where they have no friends in life, sitting in a 1 bedroom appt thinking back to wear life went. at the age of 24 ........or at age 43 sitting in a van, down by the river.
  8. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) That's not true - it could have easily offended anyone standing there, as any normal sensitive person should be reading it. It was the wrong connection to make - gays and molesters - and was not funny at all, even in jest. We live in a heterosexist society anyway - and are continually reminded how imperfect this world is, but anytime you think things are getting better, reality just slaps you in the face. It's sad. Ozzie's excuse of growing up in Venezuela, which is immersed in the sexist Latin culture (as is ours, but more so), is just that, an excuse. I love Ozzie, but I'm disappointed in him. I didn't read is as an excuse, just an explanation. For everyone like this writer who is on their high horse over this, I wonder if they always take that same stance. You know, like when it's just a group of white guys standing around and someone makes that racial crack. I'm sure Morissey puts his foot down and doesn't just go along with it and laugh.
  9. Yeah, they are 2 different stories. I'm surprised that Alou took a stand and even more surprised that anyone listened. What Bob Feller said was far worse and given the chance to clean it up, he didn't.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) I'm from the mean streets of Buffalo Grove, it's sure tough out here.
  11. Of course we'll play whatever team is there, so I don't see it as ducking any team, just as 1 more advantage of having a big lead. Pretty tough talk from a fan base whose team hasn't won s*** in like 80 years and doesn't exactly look unbeatable this year. I get the feeling some Sox fans would rather play Oakland and lose, then to not play them and oh, I don't know, maybe win the WS. I see hard ass Ozzie Montana is rubbing off.
  12. QUOTE(Benson&Rexage @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) Same with me but not a lot of people on this sight. I think where you grow up makes a difference. The rules in 'the hood' are different than in the burbs I bet. I gather someone snitched on you recently.
  13. QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) Is this Ozzie's friend? LMAO, eeeeYES.
  14. Where I came form, the worst thing you could be was a snitch.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) I like to call it the Newspaper for Dummies It's not even really a newspaper, it's a tabloid publication. There is no on line version of it that I found.
  16. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:19 AM) From the book. Canseco said he was notorious for slump busters. He even had a great definition. Yep,
  17. IMO, ideally, Anaheim wins the west, Cleveland wins the WC and Oakland stays home. If resting a few of our guys down the stretch can make that possible, I'm 100 % for it.
  18. QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) Off topic, did anyone ever figure out just what Mark Grace said when he didn't know he was on the air? "Where's my f***in slump buster"? Anyone? Anyone?
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) Heres your update: Actually it wasn't Harold Reynolds... It was a soundbyte from KFNS St. Louis where Bob Feller railed on Carribean players...saying that they don't know the rules of the game. the radio host of KFNS in St. Louis (Mike Clairborn)..tried to ask Feller what particular rule they don't understand and Feller said that he wasn't going to argue with the host and would end the interview...Clairborn told him to go ahead and hang up...."You racist" Thanks, I do what I can Thx man.
  20. QUOTE(farmteam @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) See, this is why it's bad when the Yankees suck. Their drunk fans get bored with the product on the field, and do crazy things. And this is why the Yankees are always good. ....like punch opposing players who are trying to catch fly balls.
  21. QUOTE(3E8 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) What is the Red Eye? It's a spin off of the Tribune. The Sun Times has the Red Streak. It's fluff tabloid stuff, targeted to a younger audience, it's all about Hollywood gossip, music, clubs, bars and restaurants etc. It comes out daily for .25 cents.
  22. All I caught was him making the comment and Reynolds (I think) kept asking him what he meant and which rules he was referring to specifically. The guy kept wanting to move on and Reynolds kept grilling him. Finally it got heated and the guy threatened to end the call, to which Reynolds responded "that's fine with me you racist" Click, dial tone. Good stuff. Again, I don't know who the two guys involved are.
  23. On Pg. 15 of today's Red Eye there is an article about which Hollywood actors could play the parts of current Sox players if a White Sox movie were made. Fluff, but kinda funny. Check it out if you can.
  24. It was Harold Reynolds talking to someone who said Carribean ball players don't know some of the rules of the game. It ended with him being called a racist and him hanging up the phone. Does anyone have the whole story? Please delete or add this to another thread if necessary. Thx.
  25. It's a Latino thing, they'll never understand.
