QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) They will be relpaying it again on C-Span at 10am Sunday morning. I'm all over it, get the tape ready. The highlight had to be "Mr. McGwire, how would you know steroids are bad for you"? I have never seen an athlete or anyone in general look so guilty and stumped all at once. This is big baseball and sports history, I'm glad I was around to see it. Classic stuff.
-
By the way, I can't remember the last time my TV entertained me as much as it did last night. Got home at like 5:45, put the replay on, looked up and it was 11:00 PM.!! Best stuff since 9-11.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) I think I recall your post. The key word getting Sammy of the hook is "illegal", correct? That won't fly because while anabolic steroids were not "illegal" within the confines of MLB, the are illegal within the USA. True, but I don't know how the question was asked, or if it was even a reply to a question. So, yes, he could play dumb and say "well, when I said illegal, I MEANT at that particular time in baseball". He also says he never injected or had anyone else inject him with anything, so maybe he took them orally or used a cream.
-
I wrote this in another thread. If you read Sammy's denial carefully, he's not lying. The wording is interesting and he leaves it open for him to be able to play dumb later.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) Scoring card: JC: B+ He's effectively been able to do a 180 deg turn from his opinion as expressed in th book Juiced. The clearest example of this is a congressman stating "we'll have to wait for the sequel then". CS: C- When we first learn he would be added to the task force it seemed like the best of both worlds (top player rep + zero tolerance desire). Now he sounds like a corporate stooley speaking in mission statements in Fehr's office. RP: A+ Very convincing in his denial of roids usage & his advocacy for Olympic standards testing. Likely to be added to the task force. SS: C I don't think his appearance here does anything to change public opinion of whether he used or didn't use. The cork bat reference hurts his credibility regardless of what he says. MM: INC It matters more what McGuire does after this then what he says today. He wants us to forget his past. Fine. Then give us reason to do so in the present & near future. If he becomes an anti-doping spokesperson I'll give him a B. If he goes off & hides again I give him a D & I think that could hurt his HOF chances. FT: A - He was praised for appearing, honored by being a member of the task force, didn't have to convince anyone in his denial, & CLEARLY does not believe the current program is enough or is working. Stark contrast to Schilling. Question for fans. After hearing the panel discussions who do you feel would serve the zero-tolerance committee better? Palmiero or Schilling? Why was RP so convincing to you?

QUOTE(longshot7 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) HA! You got me. I still disagree however. Where are the Congressional hearings on all the other drugs (amphetamines, coke, uppers) that players are taking? This is such a trendy scandal. It's like Claude Rains in Casablanca saying "I am SHOCKED to know there's gambling going on here!" And steroids aren't all that bad for people. Sure, if you take them like there's no tomorrow, you'll die - but that's true with any drug. But if you take them (and there's many, many different kinds - new ones won't even be detectable by the tests that baseball (or the olympics) administer) under a doctor's supervision, and stay on a program - they are very helpful. I've taken them - for asthma issues. To condemn all steroids justl like that is very shortsighted. And they don't help you hit a baseball. One iota. Did you take ANABOLIC steroids for asthma?

QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) Makes no sense that thomas is not answering all these questions like they are. what do you mean?
-
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) Doctors say steroids are bad for you. Sammy can't speak english. Lawyer does it for him. McGwire is sad. May or may have not used steroids. Same with Palmeiro. The rest say they did not use. Nobody likes Canseco. Committee takes a long lunch break. Exactly, lame as hell.....as if we didn't expect it.

Cola is a dark soft drink. Soda is a dark soft drink. "Pop" includes all, dark and clear drinks. I don't think of 7-Up and Sprite as Soda.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) I'm probably showing how out of touch I am, but while we are waiting could someone explain how the supply chain works for these substances? Are they legitimate prescription drugs that are diverted improperly or are they made in boot-leg labs like Meth-amphetamine? Is a steroid a natural substance that is distilled from something or do you mix them up from other things? How complicated is it to produce? I know this, when I was in Mexico, I was able to walk up to a legtimate drug store and get whatever steroids I might have wanted. It's packaged just like any other drug, safety sealed, syringes, liquid, pills and all. The pharmacist will even walk you through how to use them. I bet that's where players get it. I'm not sure if you can get them in the U.S.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) It's pretty obvious that Sosa and his agent thought all this out before heading to Washington. He is trying to protect his ass at all cost. Luckily courts don't convict people based on suspicions, no matter how obvious they might seem. Don't ya luv the law??
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 08:16 PM) He speaks english fine when he wants to. He's never been at a Congressional hearing I bet. There are Americans who speak English fluently, who won't even state their name in court without their attorney whispering into their ear. So, why would Sammy risk it at this hearing?
-
C'mon people, if you were in this hearing, and you spoke English the way Sammy does, would you risk answering for yourself? I'd have a translator too.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) That's from Yahoo News. That is yahoo news. Read that again, he's not lying. "Illegal", as in not allowed in baseball. He did not use anything that was illegal at the time. He didn't inject, so he either injested pills or used a cream or ointment. From the 'save your ass 'perspective, great comment.

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) Players were supposedly only given off today.. I heard that too, that's why I asked. At this pace, it's gonna be 3 days. Why the Eff did Mac cry?
-
Is this supposed to be a 1 day deal? At this pace, the replay of the broadcast will overlap the live feed.
-
Yawn, has anyone been asked directly if they juiced yet??
-
QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) NO. That's later. Thx, I'll be back in 2 hours then. Is McGuire there? He's Irish right? Spending St. Patty's in court, gotta love it.
-
Too lazy to read 20 pages. Any players actually get grilled yet? If so, who was it and what did they say? Thx.

"Can't you just stay... for just a little while?....I need some beauty in my life."

"Ain't nuttin' like a piece of p***y..........'cept maybe the Indy 500".

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 04:10 PM) Maybe listen to the testimony.. he said "those that ADMIT they were using". what a joke, so basically no one.
-
Here's the problem with taking away player's records. There must be players in baseball who were using juice and didn't break any recaords. Maybe they averaged .280 and had 20 homers, but were juising nonetheless. Myabe those guys who not have made the bigs without juice. Aren't those guys just as guilty? They made millions of dollars off of tickets that we all bought.....and if so, where do draw the line?

SF Chronicle calls Cubs fans racist
LosMediasBlancas replied to Gene Honda Civic's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Not that I listen very closely, but I've never heard a Cub fan say they didn't like Dusty. Didn't the phrase 'in Dusty we trusty' originate here? -
Frank releases advance copy of steroid testimony!
LosMediasBlancas replied to Jabroni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They will either plead the 5th, or deny using roids. I love this idea that people always have to tell the truth under oath.......so help them God. It assumes they believe in God and that they worry about the after life over saving their ass in this one. 'May I remind you that you are under oath Mr Sosa". "Like I said, I have never used steroids".
