White Sox fans
I'm taking a 'wait and see' attitude. I think most Sox fans are just happy to see change. Waht we had the past 4 years didn't work, period. If we fail, we fail, but it won't be from lack of effort by our GM. .....and who the F has them winning the World Series? QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) See Barry Rozner's article today: http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/col_rozn...?intid=38380245

That's nice. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 07:49 PM) OKay those numbers are off.. How many illegals are here!

Chicago's Japanese Community
Wow, only 4.2% and that lumps all Asian groups together. I'd figure 80% of that is Chinese. QUOTE(mreye @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 07:42 PM) http://www.cityrating.com/citystats.asp?ci...hicago&state=IL

Chicago's Japanese Community
good point. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 07:38 PM) I think being an everyday position player has a chance to push attentence much more than a relief pitcher does. Especially since you have to factor in that Shingo was barely used in April and really took a while to win the closers role. I think Iguchi will provide a daily presence that will make the opportunity to see a Japanese player everyday, much more likely.

Chicago's Japanese Community
Yeah, there were some scattered about. Now where is that Chinese 5 tool superstar? QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) In my opinion the turnout for someone like Shingo was better than I expected. If I recall correctly, the Japanese tend to follow hitters more religiously than pitchers. But, on numerous occasions I saw the TV flash a picture of some Japanese folk. Heck, there were two Japanese hotties behind me this one game.
-
Chicago's Japanese Community
Yeah, that's exactly what I was getting at. I didn't really see a big turnout last year for Shingo. I know on the coasts, especially out west, Japanese players add to the attendance big time. I'd be curious to see some cencus stats. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) I know there's many in the Western burbs.. but I don't know if I would call it a "neighborhood". It should be interesting to see if they come out to the park.
-
Chicago's Japanese Community
I know there is a nice size Chinese population in this city, most of it lives near the park. Are there a lot of Japanese in Chicago? Is there a Japanese neighborhood....even in the burbs?

16 inch softball movie ??
Yep, every movie trailer must be by that same guy saying "In a world" or "In a town". QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 10:24 AM) Coming to theatres, Summer 2005..... "In a world where the balls are larger than normal, the hands are unprotected and it seems like there are too many men on the field, ONE MAN has the power to save his teammates from defeat.....armed with only his own will....and a triple-walled aluminum bat......he gives them hope.....pride.....and a 3-run 7th inning double..... Starring: RENEE ZELLWEGER......as the perky barmaid with a heart of gold...... JOHN GOODMAN......as the cranky umpire who seems to have it in for "the good guys"..... ALEC BALDWIN.......as the wise, grizzled coach who inspires him to look inward..... ....and in his finest role, as the aging hotshot ballplayer who arrived looking for hits but leaves finding something MUCH more important...... TOM CRUISE IS...... SHORT CENTER" ...this movie has not yet been rated.... ( EDITED TO ADD that you and I both realize that Tom Cruise would never play the lead role in any movie with SHORT in the title.... )

Tigers offer Maggs 55 mil.??
I'd love to be a fly on the wall during those negotiations. Regardless of how people might feel about Boras, you have to admit, the guy gets the loot. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) Supposedly the new offer will be around 5 years and 70 million...glad to see he left the Sox for more money...oh wait.....
-
KW on the Score this afternoon
A WHOLE STAGGERING 2 MIL?? jk. QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 01:25 AM) You hear that all you Reinsdorf savages??? KW asked for a couple extra million, JR said ok.

Miller Park
The only time I was there, I was running late, so I didn't see it. Looking forward to seeing Carlos again. Thx man. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) They have some of the best Tailgating in baseball. The entire lower parking lot by the brat house is all tailgating it's awesome.
-
Miller Park
I noticed the last two S.T. games for the Sox are in Milwaukee on a Friday and Sat. Anyone know if they allow tailgating or cookouts in their parking lot before games?

Tigers offer Maggs 55 mil.??
.......the 'cojones' on that guy. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 28, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) You have to give Borass props for being able to snow job the hell outta some teams...The Tigers must feel he is worth the risk...good luck on that one.
-
Tigers offer Maggs 55 mil.??
According to today's Sun Times, the Tigers have an offer of 5 years, 55 mil. for Maggs on the table. Get this, Boras wants more years. Is that town gonna crucify their GM or what? Anyone know any more about this?

Complete The Sentence...
I know nothing is a sure thing, but overall, a lot of this team is kind of a question mark. Pods, if he can't get it done, it's gonna be ugly. El Duque, could be an 18 game winner, could get hurt and a total crushing blow.

Remembering the Holocaust
Even slavery in America was not really THAT long ago if you think about it. Funny how people went along with that kind of crap and saw nothing wrong with it back then. Nowadays we look back on it and gasp as if it was some alien life form that did all that s***. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) As civilized as this world has been, it's amazing about the barbaric acts done during the Holocaust.

Its' official....
They get ragged on, as if it was the player's suggestion to put that much pressure on him. Pods better be have his game tight too. The whole new offensive scheme relies heavily on him. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) I just hope we lives up to the hype. Just ask Jon Garland and Willie Harris what happens when you don't live up to Sox fans expectations right away. Hopefully he has some thick skin.

WGN guys
I'd like to see DJ be a little more critical of the team when they deserve it, or just go quiet like Hawk does. He sometimes tries to sugar coat things, as if we can't tell when something sux. Last year, when Valentin and Crede hit rock bottom at the plate, he said something like 'those 2 guys are having just a liiiiiiittle bit of trouble at the plate'. He also kisses Hawk's ass and seems intimidated by him. "Hawk, I bet you were the kind of player who didn't wear sleeves in the cold', 'Hawk, I bet you woulda rushed the mound in that sutuation', etc.

So basically, whenever Ozzie says something to the media we should believe the complete opposite? QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 06:03 PM) They traded for Alomar twice and picked up Uribe to at least split time at second. It seems to me that it was obvious to every one except Willie that they didn't think he could handle starting at 2B. He's just now figuring this out and compaining about it in the paper??? Willie should take his que from Aaron. He never once complained about them trading for Kenny Lofton or putting Jose Valentin out there. He just kept his mouth shut and worked hard. Look where it has gotten him now...

Another thing to consider is what will Willie's attitude be like if he is beaten out for the job and has to ride the bench yet again?

Do you think that kind of rep might keep certain talented players, who are not bad seeds, away from signing here also? QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 06:03 PM) The only way to help it is to win. I don't care if the Sox are thought to be the biggest assholes to their players.. if being an ass gets bad seeds out of here and a good chemistry is formed.. and they win. I say be the biggest a-hole you can be. There's no crying in baseball.
