  1. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 21, 2006 -> 08:16 PM) Jeff Buckley?? He drowned, didn't he?
  2. I was having this discussion the other day, lets see how it flies here. Which rock star do you feel had the most potential left in their music at the time of their death? Who still had a lot of great rock n roll left in them? This could be someone who passed recently, or 30 years ago, was a lead singer or backing musician, was 27 years old or 67 years old when they passed. I won't provide any choices, let's leave it open ended.
  3. Oh and nice pluck job on the eyebrows Jay...very Metrosexual.
  4. QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) i hate decisions like this. tapes n tapes tonight at mojos, best bar to see a band play at... but i have a german test at 9 am that i really want to get an A on. Tom Waits new album leaked, eh. I think i'm gonna buy it so he can get more money to fund a bigger tour...i was so close to getting tix to his aug. 9th show . Go to the show, German is for Germans.
  5. I'm not afraid of flying or crashing and dying, what I hate is how uncomfortable it is. Sitting cramped up in a seat designed for a 5 foot person for anything longer than 2 hours is torture. My legs cramp, my ass goes numb, I get antsy and fidgety and I just want to take off running to get the blood flowing. I seem to always need the restrooom just as the attendants are clogging up the aisle with the food trays so you can't get around them. The seat never leans back far enough for me to get any sleep. Everyone is packed in real tight so you get a constant blast of people's breath and B.O. Besides that, flying is awesome. I guess I'm too physically uncomfortable to even think about the potential dangers.
  6. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 18, 2006 -> 04:28 AM) Nope Jerk More and more I hear people use the word a-hole to mean stupid.
  7. Two for the price of one. Ever tried Fat Tire amber ale? Whatcha think? Do you use the word a-hole to mean stupid or a jerk?
  8. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) Likin' the new Killers album, making the drive from Champaign to Chicago tonight to see them at the Congress, hopefully they'll impress. IIRC, the sound in that room kinda sux.
  9. If your Dr. is cool, he might prescribe something that'll knock you the phuck out for 17 hours.....but I bet you have a connecting flight.
  10. QUOTE(shipps @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 08:17 AM) THE NEW MARS VOLTA IS AWFUL!I have backed them for so long saying if you dont like them you just dont get what they are trying to do.But I have had enough. They need to get off their musician high horse and start writing real music! They write songs now that have 10 minutes of someone tapping a piece of tinfoil! Yep. There are 40 minutes of really, really great music within each Volta record, the problem is you have find it within the kinda crap you just described.
  11. Pinella is a Cuban American.....and if you go back far enough, almost all Latino's roots go back to Spain. Has Lou said he was offended by the comments? I think Lyons was on the bubble to begin with.
  12. I'm moist with anticipation. The allmighty Dinosaur Jr. brings the rock AND the roll and you need to stop speaking to anyone who tells you anything different. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 16, 2006 -> 03:59 AM) I just read that the not-so-recently-reunited "classic lineup" of Dinosaur Jr. have finished the recording of their upcoming disc of new material, due in Spring 2007. I am now happier than I was a few minutes ago. Dinosaur Jr. =
  13. Sorry, Jay gets no love from me. It's just too easy to do what he does.
  14. Do yourselves a favor and get to the nearest The Hold Steady show coming to a town near you. WOW.
  15. I only check the schedule so I can line up my trips.
  16. Owner of a small, live music venue/bar.
  17. You guys are too easily impressed. Good film, great? Nope. And unless you know and have seen every film in the running, there is no way to say anyone is getting ripped off by the academy. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) Infernal Affairs remake, no? can't wait to see it. Kinda. It's part 'Internal Affairs' part 'Donny Brasco' part 'State of Grace' wanna be. Now 'State of Grace', THAT was a great Irish/American mob film.
  18. QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 12, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) nothing, i went to their website and the songs were meh. Last year i saw The Hold Steady, The Constantines, and the cops for 8 bucks, and all three of them tear s*** up live. The constantines are worthy of their own, and still there was maybe only 40 people there. I think I remember your review of that show. Craig Finn has become one of my favorite lyricists(
  19. QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 10:14 AM) Hold Steady winter tour 12/9 Columbia, MO I'm making to drive to SD to see them tomorrow night. Those guys went through a case of beer during a 45 min. set at Lolla. Needless to say, the brew will be a flowin' What can you tell me about Sean Na Na the opener?
  20. CBGB was beautifully dumpy, as all rock n roll places should be. I saw The Jesus Lizard there a while back, man that was intense! I get attached to certain rooms for different reasons. Sometimes it's because of the acoustics, or just because of all the bands I've seen and the experiences I've had there. Some of my favs; Lounge Ax Metro GBGB Empty Bottle Casbah in SD Whiskey in L.A.
  21. QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 06:19 PM) i got the new hold steady. Its a really good club rock and roll album. But NSFP = not safe for parties. btw my music website is up its www.45rpmzine.com , i'd appreciate all the hits but i'm still kinda workin on my writing. I'm staring at the new The Hold Steady right now, still in it's wrapper. I won't get to it til Thursday and then we're going on a road trip.
  22. One of my favorite rooms anywhere, R.I.P.
  23. So the other day I'm listening to the radio on my way to SD and I heard the new Snow Patrol single. Holy crap, talk about a song that screams commercial. You will hear this song in every radio format, on a ton of TV shows and in plenty of films for the next 20 years at least. If you haven't heard it yet, you will soon and you have been warned. Anyone grab the new The Hold Steady? I can't wait.
  24. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 02:35 PM) I've always seen more Henry Rollins in Rogers, and more Neal Cotts in Lucas. Idunno if Lucas has ever been that pretty.
