Poor kid he's barely had time to get settled into being in a new place with new people and now getting shelled. He better be done for the day. -

Did you say that earlier or is it just apparent now while he's getting bombed ? -

Yeah I'm not sure I've heard anyone say let him be on the opening day roster. -

It is typical Soxtalk though. That's funny too. -
It may well be but we won't ever know . Some baseball people like take charge, knowledgeable catchers . Did the Sox pay too much and might've got him for less later or on a minor league deal ?Maybe or probably but it's water under the bridge and $4M . Maybe he'll help a pitcher be worth more over the course of his career. That might be the part people don't understand even if it seems highly unlikely. On the surface you'll look at stats and say he was worthless and feel vindicated .

Welcome to Soxtalk ! -
They got Maldonado for a reason even if it's a reason some people don't understand. They'll let it play out with some veterans but may not with others. Stassi and Moustakas may not make the cut but usually with veterans now would be the time to cut them loose if you want to give them a chance to latch onto other teams.

I disagree. You should preserve service times of all young players as long as you can when you suck with a bunch of sucky vets u plan to trade. Work the older youngest in 1st as you continue to mix in more flip candidates next off season . It has to be a continuous process like the Rays do of flipping and always having a talented stream of youngsters and players worthy of being promoted. Then when they are promoted they are more ready theoretically.

I think Getz might not want to start the clock on some guys just yet. I think that was the point of bringing in cheap guys with good defensive reps or ability to guide pitchers. After trades at the All Star break we'll likely see some of the youngsters but they created 2 holes in the rotation and Nastrini could be the favorite to fill one of the holes. Some of the young pitchers could use veteran catchers help and someone like Soroka could use Lee.

Probably about 1/3 of the ABs as DeJong too. He's been out there a lot.

I liked your post even though I'm one of the biggest proponents of JR sucks. That's mainly because you have to remind everyone just how many areas of running the Sox he actually affects. So while I wail about JR, I love talking actual baseball and consider myself on the optimistic side when opining about players. I gave the trade a B. Worth is so subjective but in my eyes Cease could be great again ( high worth) but his 2023 numbers in a vacuum hurt his value. Durability is not rated as highly as it should be. Texas paid for Degrom, a truly gifted pitcher who can't stay on the field ,yet Getz struggled to get high end prospects for Cease who has durability and awesome stuff and no one would be surprised to see him pitch closer to his 2022 numbers than 2023. I also think market conditions took a turn for the worse when trading for high end prospects. Not sure why, RSN problems perhaps affected the FA market more and FA contracts affected the value of high end prospects and prospects in general. Cease also was pretty worthless to the Sox in what surely would be a very bad team for his remaining 2 years. 3 prospects and an MLB reliever with 4 years of control is how many total years of control. 6,6,6,4 ? 22 years plus the years in the minors while they develop. But this is the part where we circle back to JR. If the player development staff for all Sox players, not just those in the minors, was as advanced and as helpful to prospects as the Dodgers system I'd feel even better about the trade. One last thing. Talking baseball requires analysis, experience, patience , knowledge and clear communicating. Message boards are more like X now, short outbursts, cruelty and brief comments. People no longer have the time nor inclination to make long posts " discussing" much of anything.

Is it too early to wish to start the Getz watch?

Now that you would've been Ok with it I feel better. (sarcasm) but a lot more of us here wouldn't be good with a zero return. 3 top 10 prospects from a No 5 or so farm system who slot into our own top 10 into what was a 15-20 ranked farm system. I'm good with it. It's not Getz' job to take huge risks and come up empty handed when there is a huge need for talent and depth. It's his job to build a team. Thank JR for what he's done this offseason. JR is probably thrilled so far. -
Guess so now. The link to the game is no longer on the Sox MLB TV page. I switched my favorite team to the Cubs and the link is still there and there's other content on because of the delay then the announcers came on still talking about it as if it's happening. But the previous post showed the scoreboard showing it's cancelled. They're still talking about it as if it hasn't been cancelled yet but maybe it's a delayed broadcast.

Prospect game starting soonish. MLB app on your TV with White Sox as your favorite team page in the Sox highlights section I believe.

Cease To Padres per Passan
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Berroa was sidelined Tuesday due to an injury in his arm/shoulder, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Details regarding the nature of Berroa's injury or a potential return timeline are currently unknown. Berroa found consistent success at the Double-A level last year with a 2.76 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 101 strikeouts across 65.1 frames, and he held his own on the mound during his two MLB appearances with the Mariners. The 23-year-old reliever was in the hunt to make Chicago's Opening Day bullpen, but his injured shoulder could put his chances in jeopardy. -

Always seemed willing to talk to the media even when it's not mandated.I liked his interviews with Garfien this spring. Really good pitcher hurt by 2023. Hope he comes back with a vengeance and SD gets more than they gave up for him even if that seems unlikely. -

I like the way his catcher frames his pitches too. He pitches down in the zone a lot. The Catcher gives him the target about knee high then as Thorpe is about to deliver the pitch he lowers his glove to nearly the ground and catches his low pitches bringing his glove up into the zone. -
No watching was watching it on TV the sneaky way

It was about as routine as they come, grounder right near the base . Probably took his eyes off the ball to see how far he had to go to step on the base or the ball could have hit the lip of the grass and in that case I don't blame the fielder that much. If it hits the lip it can take a higher bounce a lower one or go sideways in either direction or any combination of high low sideways.
