Now hes a huge risk to hurt himself just sprinting in the OF and running the bases . What's his percentage of games played out of possible games played ? 50-55% ? I can't see how anyone thinks a broken down sports car that has good possibility of blowing up turning corners at high speed or just going full speed for a few miles is worth everything you think it is. What good is speed and power if it's hurt half the time ? Not sure what double plus speed and power is. It's highly doubtful he's as fast as he used to be with his multiple hip injuries. 38 HR last year ,great. 39 combined in other injury filled 3.5 seasons plus the shortened 2020 season. Also I'd like to know which teams have you identified as willing to give up the talent you think should be coming back for him. The option years in 26 and 27 are $20M per season . The Sox would probably be thrilled to let some other team figure out if it's really worth it to have so much injury prone superstar potential around and hope he can play over 100 games and be healthy for the playoffs. If he's traded at the deadline buyers are taking on a possible $61M or perhaps just about $21M for the rest of this year and 2025 . He could very well be a FA for the 2026 season. His bat better wake up soon and body remain uninjured for the next month + if they want get a buyer. I frankly doubt it's going to happen. Then it's the off-season to try again and if still no " haul" it's back to seeing if Robert can actually have an uninjured and productive 1st half when he's usually a slow starter and injury prone. Good luck with that at the 2025 trade deadline . I don't know what will happen but it might depend on if Crochet is actively involved and listens to Boras. It's generally believed if you hire Bora that you'll go for the jugular and want to test free agency. But that is how Boras operates . He'll be in Crochet s ear telling him he believes in him. The payout is much bigger for Boras if Crochet can prove he's capable of big bucks. But it doesn't always work out that way. Plenty of players have passed on decent offers and regretted it. If Crochet is his own man and has some common sense about the consequences of passing up a decent offer because of his injury history he'd still be able to get big money at 28 years old if his arm holds up.

Thorpe will probably spend some time in AAA before he called up.Might be this year and be next year. Charlotte is a band box but he still should be tested by the more advanced AAAA hitters who are in AAA. He's been traded twice because although he's a great prospect he doesn't have overwhelming stuff besides his changeup. Yes he should be tested but perhaps not at the MLB level. Charlotte will be a challenge.

Is dumpster diving a bad thing now ? All teams do it. It's actually a good strategy for picking up youngerish players or rehab guys who may still have some upside.Its better than getting stuck paying $10-20M for multiple years to middle level Free agents whose best years always seem to be behind them.

Too little? With his injury history ? That's just an insanely irresponsible offer. He's pitched .5 years as a SP . If he has another major injury this year or next that keeps him out for another year+ his career could be over. Half of that for 4 years would be fine. You give up 2 years of free agency but when the alternative is maybe less than 50/50 that you'll ever be in a position as a startinng pitcher to expect to receive that kind of money, you would seriously have to consider a decent but not irresponsible multi year offer from the Sox.

Depends what you mean by a pretty big extension. Is offering a 24 year old who has no starting pitching history and actually has more of a history of injuries something in the range of $40M to keep him till he's through 2028 sound fair to both sides ? That's guaranteed money to set you up comfortably for the rest of your life or go with whatever he'll make until he's a FA in 2027 which is largely dependent on his health and stats as a SP. If you were Crochet would you risk passing that kind of money up when the very real alternative is more injuries that keep him from ever making that kind of money and having one of those nomadic baseball careers. Sure he could believe in himself and end up terribly wrong just as the Sox could take the chance to believe in him and also be terribly wrong so they hedge their bets by offering something modest like 2025 $5M, 2026 $8M , 2027 $12M, 2028 $15M.

This close ? FA in 2027. That's 2.5 years.Thats a lifetime for a pitcher who's been injured as much as he has and who is in the 1st phase of seeing how he holds up on a starting pitcher's schedule. He still has a lot to prove. Financial security for the rest of your life when you are 24 should be extremely attractive to him when the alternative could be non tendered in a more injuries scenario.

I never played baseball at a high level but I ve followed the game forever at the MLB level. 1st pitch fastball for a strike to lefty on left to Colas from a pitcher who frequently throws curves low to the previously hitters.So I'm thinking lots of low curves coming now that he's ahead. I figure that's what Colas should be thinking too and look at the next pitch at least. He's at a disadvantage and has to see if he can get the count back in his favor. Low curve out of the strike zone swing and miss strike 2, then another curve in the dirt strike 3. How do they make it this far without knowing these things and you see it constantly. Sure you'll get out guessed pretty often but so many guys can't seem to think along with the pitcher. Too much swingitis.
