I do of course have plenty of doubts the Dodgers would give up Outman and Amaya for a rental like Giolito. Might have to throw in Cespedes or someone else. The Dodgers like getting sure things. Freeman, Betts, Machado, Trea Turner , Max Scherzer at the trade deadline a few years ago. They don't often deal with maybes like Giolito when giving up a top prospect like Outman.

If picking up his option was the correct move because it was possible to flip him for something positive why couldn't Hahn make a deal until April 1st ? By then Hahn was in desperation mode and forced himself to take on the extra year and extra money in Pollock's contract. That trade and picking up the option was basically however many years of Madrigal and Heuer at minimal salary for Kimbrel his prorated salary for 2021 and Pollock and his $12M 2022 salary and possible 12M+ salary for 2023 minus the $16M Kimbrel salary for 2023. A Hahn specialty trading youth for old putting him in a role he sucked at then trading old for old and taking on more money. Is anyone surprised Vaughn and Sheets have been in the OF ? 2022 was supposed to be a big year. World Series year. They needed a LHH OF badly and better OF defense and that's the best Hahn could do ?

I like anything that puts Colas, Outman and Robert in the same OF. Pick up Stone Garrett to back them all up and woo that's a nice infusion of talented guys in their 20's all with power and all can play defense and 2 LHH.

Dodgers got Kimbrel for how ever much they saved on the Pollock contract which was what, $8M max. or more if he got the amount of AB's with the Dodgers he got with the Sox. The Dodger got what they paid for which was an $8M gift from the Sox.

I was very upset when Hahn picked up the option and maybe it took him a long time to trade him because of he couldn't get a prospect but yeah still disgusting the whole Kimbrel situation from beginning to end with Pollock luckily turning down the option and taking the buyout instead. Decline the option and you have salary to work with. Pick it up take your chances you can move the whole salary or get something useful back for the the same amount of salary or less salary. Hahn actually managed to do neither and ends up trading him and taking on more salary for his typical veteran trade that of course bombs. That's a level of bad that cannot be emphasized enough. Hahn did more for the NL West than he did for the Sox.

Either way that trade still was terrible for the Sox. I already said it was a smart trade for the Dodgers so however you look at it the Dodgers GM aced Hahn. Hahn may have never asked for a prospect. I have my doubts that the Dodgers didn't have a few decent prospects they would have been willing to give up including Outman. On paper a 3 WAR RH Pollock may have looked better to Hahn than a guy who might not have contributed to the Sox in 2022. Even without Pollock the LH Outman only got in 4 games with the Dodgers and kicked ass and was promptly sent back down. Outman should be a starting OF for somebody in 2023. Will it be the Dodgers ?

I don't see any hyperbole let alone a lot. What has Hahn/KW/JR done to make the Sox better since they let Renteria go? They have only become much worse. And again support your claim. Show me some times that a full season 1 year rental helped teams win a championship. I know there are probably a lot of trades that ended up neutral, the player didn't help a team win a championship and the prospects didn't pan out , but there are still salary implications involved with trading for a rental whereas the team getting the prospects gets salary relief. Kimbrel didn't help the Dodgers statistically but it actually was a smart trade for them because Hahn took back a player who ended up being more expensive than the guy he gave up. Kimbrel's salary was $16M for 2022 whereas at the very least Pollock was $12M + the $5M buyout for 2023. However if he had stayed with the Dodgers it's likely he doesn't get the AB's required to increase his salary for 2023 with the Dodgers but he still could have chose his player option @ $12M for 2023 with them. If ever a trade called for a prospect for a guy Kimbrel was it. But no Hahn doubled down on his trade deadline deal and it ended up being a bigger bust than it already was. Only by the grace of Pollock was that trade not extremely terrible but just terrible. Basically by accepting that trade Hahn once again made it seem like he was working for the Dodgers rather than the Sox just as he did when now the Giants can get a draft pick back for Rodon instead of the Sox getting a draft pick for him. There is no such thing as hyperbole when talking about the Sox FO ineptitude.

I don't think "not the worst option out there" is something I'd put on my resume. Your minor leaguers are probably not the worst options out there either and its possible they develop into better than that at some point. Rentals are hit and miss and basically pointless unless you win a championship and they play a major roll. Even if many of the core pieces rebound and that propels the Sox to the playoffs and Winker provided stats in the range he had before he went to the AL you still now have to fill that hole again.

Are the White Sox championship caliber ? That's the only time a rental makes sense. There are way more trades for rentals at the trade deadline than there are in the off season. Smart teams wait to see how they do during the season before looking for that final piece or pieces to put them over the top and they are usually going to cost less to acquire for just a few months rather than a whole season. Make your case for rentals for a whole season for a team that's been .500 for 1.5 years. Did it help the Dodgers trading for Kimbrel ? Easy for you to ask "do you think the Sox are giving up Colas ?"" They'll just give up a Intl. prospect nobody knows anything about like this guy named Fernando Tatis, Jr. Come on man make some sense. This is the White Sox.

Exactly. Best not to ever expect anything because you'll be disappointed most of the time and when you aren't it might be a happy surprise. I got no control so what can I expect ? Hope yes expect , no.

He's a rental ,1 year and is a terrible OF. You want to give up a prospect for a rental ? They should done buying rentals. It fixes nothing. The rebuild is over . 1 year of Winker solves what exactly for the future of this franchise ? If you haven't noticed Soxtalk is made up of many different people. There is not a hive or collective mentality hence many different opinions .

Well we've heard rumors that he's lazy and a drunk. If true he only can help himself and seek help.

If this is true (Winker) we'll see more action in the Fire Hahn thread. He's got only this year as a free agent on his contract. He's worth nothing. And Kyle Lewis please no. Why trade prospects for these guys when you can just claim Stone Garrett with keep the prospects.

I think he'll play some time in the OF but he'll be the primary DH. I think they have finally seen enough of Vaughn, Sheets and Eloy in the OF. Colas should be put in RF and never benched ever unless its a super tough LHP out there but even then let him sink or swim. He'll adjust quickly and he should do very well against RHP. We need his defense and arm in RF and his power in the lineup. Who'll be in LF is the question that has to be answered.

I think we need a satirist cartoonist to depict the Sox or Hahn in the fetal position in the womb sucking their thumb with a thought bubble that says "It's real cozy in here."

I was all over wanting Brantley before he signed with Houston. Many here weren't because of injury history. Now its 4 years later and although still a fine hitter the Sox need guys who can catch the ball. There's no room for " but where would he play" guys. Eloy is the DH, period.

Also a terrible fielder in LF . Waste of money.

I'd take Stone Barrett. Not an established MLB guy . Did well in limited time with the D'backs. Speed and power hitting OF. Courtney Hawkins with MLB potential. Turning 27 soon. Power, speed, defense. He's RH.

Right we are more or less on the same page except rather than sign 2 meh players like Kiermaier and Gallo I'd just sign one and probably the best starting pitcher the Sox can find for $15-20M for 3 yrs max and that would be it. Always need pitching. The rest of the team just fill with young guys ready or not here they come. Seek some defense support the pitchers. It's obvious the Grifol hiring was to get inside the young players heads and see if he can work some "be more like me" magic on them. Work hard, communicate, if you want to be the best do what the best do , stop wasting your talent stuff. Moncada may be a party boy alcoholic and he may need more than Grifol. At least we're hearing Grandal is working with the Hawks strength and conditioning guy. It may be called fluff but still it's a serious attempt to be better. Now if only we can hear about those things as the off season progresses for Moncada and others. It's really what the season hinges on, bounce backs from guys who were injured and terrible . Due for some good luck with Eloy and Robert.
