  1. Wilson had been pitching well. He made quick work of the righties after De la Cruz.
  2. I'm resisting the urge to make a prediction of doom .
  3. Nice play by Taylor to run that one down. Through 3, No score.
  4. ROSTER MOVES: Prior to the start of this morning's game at Gwinnett, the Charlotte Knights have made the following roster moves: Oh Slater is back in action just when I thought he might be gone for the year with that meniscus tear.
  5. I know where you got it from. In almost 25 years on Soxtalk no one ever looked it up . I rarely used it. Didn't care enough to delete it.
  6. I like my home town team . So does everyone here. I want them to be good but at least I'm not blind to whats really happening here instead of blaming a puppet . I can still enjoy my team take smalls amounts of joy at individual moments in games. It does not make me miserable enough to try and hunt down your social media posts. Was that some kind of gotcha moment for you ?
  7. I wouldn't call not dying "dilly dallying" . The guy loves to play with money. And he's pretty good at it. Not a good owner but he sure has decent luck. He forgot what it's like to be a fan. He just has higher priorities that don't coincide with rewarding the fans. It's more like using them as a means to an end.
  8. I'm not enamored with Getz. I think he was a hire of convenience and a Fall guy. The stunt double to take the fall because a real GM wouldn't take the role because you can't look good as a GM under the current situation. He had very little to trade off compared to the 1st rebuild. Crochet appeared out of nowhere. That happened on Getz' watch with help from the pitching guru he hired and Katz. That has brought the most talent into the organization. Most of the time many of the complaints are about the process and not even necessarily the results . Most moves have been inconsequential and without much money involved. Pretty much the bare minimum it takes to stock AAA and the Sox with a very low budget for doing so. I didn't like the Fedde trade I thought it a player short like most did. It's looking little better this year. In 2 off seasons. Fedde had been the Sox biggest FA signing 2 years $15M . Compare it to signings the Sox made during the 1st rebuild. They actually put too good a product on the field that the draft picks during that rebuild weren't ever at the top like when the Astros were tanking. The Astros really knew how to suck . Now Getz is working under anti tanking rules the league instituted which hurts the Sox more than any other team because they operate like a small market team without the benefits that small market teams get. That's on JR not his puppet. Add it all up and we're likely making the same complaints because JR would've hired a different puppet working with the same restrictions in the transition years before hopefully the Ishbia's are the new owners. Or Jerry outlives the Ishbia's patience and they pull out.
  9. It's a rebuild after the old rebuild died and Reinsdorf estate planning for his death. I've given you the benefit of the doubt that you actually know this. But I guess I'm wrong . You actually think Getz matters and think things could magically change to IDK what if only JR fired Getz and was replaced by IDK who . You always leave that part out. Oh wait you said a monkey. Your X must be so popular .
  10. Have you ever consider sports talk radio ? All you need is people to listen and bravado .Don't need facts just meatball soup.
  11. There goes the marketing department. Their whole job is to do that for us and to get us to believe it.
  12. Eh everyone was saying the bullpen is worse, the starting pitching is worse, the hitting might be a tiny bit better if Robert, Beni, Tauchman Slater , Rojas and a couple rookies play OK. Defense was a wash too. Maybe slightly better . Point is there was a lot of talk preseason that the Sox were worse because we lost Crochet and Fedde. Still a long way to go and anything can happen but it's not like Robert has hit much better than Vaughn. He does more to accumulate WAR in other aspects but he hasn't been carrying the team offensively. We still may have some other surprises in store. Shane Smith ,Meidroth, Quero and more to come . Not too bad considering all the pitching throughout the organization that got injured.
  13. Or if Detroit buys him back for $50K they break even or made money on him if they paid the Cubs less for him or they know Detroit won't pay for him, no one else claims him and they get to keep him. Or someone claims him and they get paid cash like they paid the Cubs and now they're off the hook for him and break even ? I'm putting way too much thought into this 😋.
  14. You always make it sound so simple. Riddle me this . What's Getz supposed to do ? Seriously asking if you are the GM and your owner says we need to lower the payroll even more than last year, when you could at least take a shot on Fedde, who are you suppose to sign? You can't just say we don't want to spend any money so we're forgetting the major league season and only want to play our minor league seasons. You have to field an MLB team and pay for them. You have to pay AAAA talent to play in AAA to back them up. It's easy to rant and rave about wasting millions but how do you still try to rebuild but also field a team bad enough to be in the running for the No 1 draft pick ? How do you fix scouting and development or R & D ,hire new people, buy new up to date tech, built a new complex in the DR ? How do you continue to make 2 other Rule 5 picks that have turned out pretty good so far ? Maybe you can help me understand what you're talking about by creating the budget Getz has been working under and making a list of all players you would have TRiED to sign, All the people you would have hired and all the tech you would have bought and compare it to all the money Getz has spent and show me where the waste is . I'm sure in your plan the players never get injured. Your bums would all perform well and your vets would all be traded for high draft choices. Get a clue .You have no idea. This is what happens when you're signing players to be bad on purpose. You hope a few of them do decent enough to get you a few minors leaguers who turn out to be something. That's it. This is the process of rebuilding right after your 1st rebuild didn't quite manage the sustained success that was envisioned by the architects of the 1st rebuild including the same owner who is clutching the purse strings even tighter now that he's prepping his sons to sell the team in such a way that will make them the most money with as little debt and taxes as possible . Yes it's ugly, a very ugly process. You hate it. I hate it. As fans it sucks going through it. You want to wave a magic wand and make it all better and until it is you will keep throwing tantrums acting like you haven't got a clue to the things I just told you. This is just JR estate planning. Sooner or later you will get it . You, me , us, the fans we are not a part of this process.
  15. Ok I think this is the one I accept. My mistake on having to pay the Tigers + it was a trade where they paid cash. Ok how does this sound then ? Maybe the Sox talked to the Tigers and found out they don't want to pay $50K to get him back but the Sox don't want to keep him on the 26 so they put him back on waivers, hope he goes unclaimed and they can then keep him in AAA ? Or if he does get claimed they don't really care ? Small sample size but 2 for 8 with 4 walks but 6K in Charlotte on his rehab. So every time he made an out it was a K.
  16. Ha well my paragraph above on Workman apparently is resolved now . By extension I'll guess that means that Vargas will not go on the IL and he'll be back in the lineup along with Robert on Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.
  17. I think it's just that it's hard for fans to get a grip on what he actually was at SS. How old are those defensive reports that said he's a 60 fielder and was that when he was playing SS or was he always a 3rd baseman who started playing SS because he had a big arm and soft hands ? He's a huge guy , how good could his range be at SS ? I highly doubt he was as good there as Amaya. He's built more like C. Montgomery. And he clearly needs to play at AAA . AA to bigs too much for him to handle apparently or Sox bit off more than they could chew when they paid the Cubs for him. He's likely to pass through waivers unclaimed and the Sox will have to pay the Tigers to take him back. They will basically end up spending around 75K ( What they paid the Cubs in trade (my guess 25K) + $50K to send him back to the Tigers) for the privilege of that 1 game .
  18. Despite Thaiss playing well ,unless a trade return for Lee returns more than you'd expect, Thaiss should be the one to get traded since he's only signed for 1 year and Lee is cheap and under control until 2030. He also hits for power, runs well and has a quick release and a good arm. Plus he got off to a nice start this year. He has also played LF and 1st base. It's not really surprising a smart team would be interested in him. He has good tools and power is always in demand. Only having one option left complicates things as does Teel being the expected other half of the future catching tandem. The Sox might use that option if Lee remains in Charlotte after his rehab stint is over . He turns 27 July 25th. The Sox also have a decision to make fairly soon on Gage Workman. They haven't had him long after they got him from the Cubs for cash as a Rule 5 guy. It seemed like a bit of a stretch but the Sox must have liked his very good Spring Training with the Cubs , his LH power bat, strike zone awareness and a good fielding reputation. However , he had never played above AA until this rehab stint and his fielding rep took a hit in his MLB time with the Cubs and his 1 game with the Sox at 3rd base. He is reputed to have a very good arm. They could pay the Tigers to take him back but that would seem odd to have paid to have him for such a short period of time. If Vargas is put on the IL Workman will definitely get another shot soon . We should get more clarification if Vargas can't play Tuesday or Wednesday against the Reds. The infield seems overcrowded as the MLB level now with Rojas back. Vargas has a calf "issue" . The OF has been in disarray all season . Tauchman has had multiple hamstring issues. He's now on his rehab assignment at Charlotte and should be back next week. Slater may never be back with his meniscus tear. Benintendi is eligible to come back May 15th from his 2nd time on the IL this season from his left calf strain. Not sure if he'll have any rehab time in Charlotte The 1st injury was his left adductor. We may also see the Sox debut of relief pitcher Yoendrys Gomez who the Sox claimed from the Dodgers. He was only on the Dodgers for 2 weeks and 3 appearances . In 4.1 innings he gave up 7 runs on 10 hits.
  19. The Sox record is 5 and 6 in May. They have Monday off and will be looking to get to .500 for the month on Tuesday against the Reds in Cincinnati.
