The plan for Vaughn has already played out. The present has become the past and Vaughn is not the future . We have lots of proof of that already. We have zero proof that Elko is not the future . There is no harm in swapping them out right now. Vaughn might be more valuable if he can put up Elko type numbers in AAA but I don't think he can. It's foolhardy at this point. Resigning him this year was a stretch. You gave him 30 games at the top level after 4 years of it already. Give him special attention in the minors. Reward players who earned it. Unless JR has mandated Vaughn stay on the 26 , it's Getz's call and he's been talking out of both sides of his mouth way too much. You either mean it when you talk about merit and accountability or you're full of s%*# and that talk means nothing when a high draft pick who has failed in over 2000 MLB PA over 4+ years is favored over a low draft pick who has shown he can rise above his perceived level of ability.

You can't have preconceived notions though. What if he actually adjusts to MLB and does well ? He's the type of guy you love as a GM . Look how far he has risen above expectations already. Fans love an underdog. Mark Buerhle was beloved. Fans loved Palka and Yermin Mercedes and Carlos Quentin. Producing from humble beginnings is what Murica is all about.

All true but you are saying what he was in 2022 while maintaining his character points since those are good traits built into who you are. But now he is also among the best hitters in minor league baseball. Isn't this exactly what you hope to happen especially when he plays the position of a guy who is failing so miserably ? I think we were talking about Vaughn not Montgomery. Montgomery was just an example I used to show how Getz is spewing nonsense about data regarding a player they already have 4 seasons of data on and also using it to disrespect Elko's merits because of the difference in their draft positions while he spews talk from the other side of his mouth about building culture and accountabilty. Feagan p**** footed around it instead of calling it out.

I saw that .My first thought was Casas body weight was too much for his knee to handle as he lunged for the base. He just buckled. I also saw Semien doubled up by running on a flyball out forgetting there was 2 outs. I know people make mistakes but there are scoreboards all over the field and you have the other team holding up fingers indicating outs and a 1st base coach whose primary function is tell you how many outs there are and remind you about the pitcher's pick off move.

You're right Greg .Just when the team is starting to play a little better led by the resurgent Robert, JR. It will hurt to trade him. However this is what we wanted . He's hurt way too often just like Crochet was but he has so much talent that a healthy Robert who walks and steals, plays very good defense and hits bombs is also highly enticing to teams looking to make a major impact at the trade deadline. The only winning future is to find at least 2 more productive , cheap players you can stick on the team for 6 years like Quero or Meidroth, Teel , Braden Montgomery, or Noah Schultz , Hagen Smith , Grant Taylor, Shane Smith or maybe even Miguel Vargas. Maybe in 2 years the Ishbia's can resign Robert as a free agent.

I think we're past that stage. We just want the best return as possible for what he is. We know it won't be as good as we got for Crochet but hopefully not that far from it. If he keeps this up in 2 weeks Getz could be fielding decent offers because he might be at 1.5 WAR by then. Even though you already have 22 players in MLB already at or above 1.5 with Judge approaching 3 it would be a huge improvement over a good month of sucking.

While I always try to avoid the blatant Getz sucks comments because I see progress and realize he's got puppet strings attached to him, in this instance Getz sucks because the words coming out of his mouth is pure BS and not indicative of a grasp on the present. What a bunch of BS. Call a spade a spade for heavens sake. They have plenty of data on Vaughn already . This mythical quest for a minor league relief pitcher like the guy who just retired from the Jimenez trade is asinine. All that GM speak is just Getz trying to justify Vaughn's salary and draft pedigree while at the same time enhancing Elko's wrong side of the tracks upbringing and denying his own endless speeches about building a culture. How about building a culture based on merit and accountability ? Sox fans are hungry for change. We get it power hitters K a lot. It's better than Vaughn's endless display of how to rack up reams of negative WAR. We want to support the younger guys not the old failures. While casually dismissing Elko's future status, it's hypocritical to put so much effort into Vaughn's future or even the future of an imaginary minor league relief pitcher. It's not like the future is the only thing to have to worry about. You have to show a commitment to more than 41 wins and bad attendance and stop ignoring the putrid smell right under your nose stinking up the present. Throw the fans a bone and stop worrying about Andrew Vaughn's pension and favored son status.
