I agree but what they need most is hitters with actual hit tools. -

Depends on upgrades to the lineup . We'll see how the season finishes out to get a better grip on what Hahn might do in the off season -

Rodon amped the FB up a little after the triple. 1 at 94 to Betts then 1 under 90 for the out. -

Rodon good 1st inning, All 3 Sox K'd and all 3 missed or fouled off some juicy pitches, with the caveat of seeing where they ended up on gameday maybe good movement but I counted 6 strikes all middle . -

If you are talking about Hosmer he had already won a World Series . It always makes a difference. Are you trying to support my argument now. That falls in line with everything I said. -

So anybody know how to pronounce it ? Does it rhyme with rare like its spelled ? Mon frere (rhymes with rare) in French means "My Brother." I just want to call him Brother Frare which would be like saying Brother Brother. I know, I know too much time on my hands lately.

Ask quote 2 gun he's the one who said it. I was surprised no one said anything about it until I did. He posted it Thursday . I told him it was crazy today. -

If you are asking me I think you're asking the wrong guy. I thought it was crazy too. It was two Gun Pete that said he could go down to WInston Salem and told me it was more common than I thought . I also questioned it in 2 other posts. -
I can guarantee it because thats what rebuilds do. Trade assets for prospects . Knock payroll down .Wait a few years for the prospect to advance. . Use payroll then to fix holes through free agency. Trade other prospects to fix other holes and hit the competitive window with everything you got. The Cubs did it the Astros did it. It's rebuild 101and frankly I am shocked you don't know that. Will the Sox spend as much as the Cubs ? I highly doubt it. The difference between the 2 rebuilds is the Sox went pitcher heavy in acquiring the 1st wave of prospects, It's a risk but if there's been one thing the Sox have been good at its developing pitchers. And now we are seeing that fruit ripen right now. Of course there are still doubts about drafting /developing hitters but the Sox have also made a lot of changes in the scouting and development area. I can't guarantee a World Series win because rebuilds do fail but I can sure guarantee the process that's going on.

Wait so you can name every scout in the minor and major leagues for both teams and not only that their reputations in the baseball community and do the same for the front offices ? Wow you must be a baseball god . What team do you work for ?

Reynaldo Lopez and breaking balls: Fangraphs article
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I have to trust 2 guys like Duncan and Coop know a lot more about pitching then any of us. Both have great reputations. I'm sure you have said when talking about prospects many times that development isn't linear . That still applies here. Un paso a la vez . Edit. A few other things.Coop also knows the personality ,temperament and intelligence of these pitchers which is often overlooked with discussions here. I'm sure if you have listened to Steve Stone you have heard him say he could never get comfortable with the change up so it isn't always a given that it can work with all pitchers. The fact that he is throwing it now with effectiveness is a huge step even for one game. -

Could be he wasn't comfortable with it or had trouble keeping it down or wasn't getting movement on it and instead of forcing him just continued to work on it in side sessions until he was comfortable with it or he could keep it down or get movement on it. You know as well as I that you can only focus on so much. Command of fastball is always going to be 1st. and the word "force" is not something anyone should be comfortable with. It's a long season and just have to let them develop at their own pace. No one ever said everything can be done in 1 years time. -

Sawx @ Sox, 7:10, 8/31- Kopech Night III
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to soxfan49's topic in 2018 Season in Review
He is making a lot more contact lately and you are correct in your assessment. I was disappointed later in the game right before the Davidson HR with him. With 2 men on he worked the count to 3-1 .Perfect time to be looking fastball and he took one right down the middle. He then struck out. No idea why he doesn't swing in an obvious FB situation on a pitch right down the middle . That situation and that pitch is where even bad hitters become great hitters. -

See post above yours. If he goes to Winston Salem or plays in the DR I will be shocked. I doubt his agents nor the Sox want him to risk injury at this time. He demolished AA A. What good will it do to face A+ pitching? He'd just get a bunch of walks or risking somebody beaning him. -

I posted my thoughts on the Lopez game in the Gio is Saving His Season thread. I'll repeat a little of it here. Coop and Dave Duncan probably have a plan for every young starter that maximizes fastball command and change ups before anything else while curves and sliders are used less. Both Gio and Lopez were known to have decent curves already but like most young pitcher if you can master command of the fastball and develop a good changeup you are well on your way to becoming a good pitcher. They then are able to mix in the curve or slider with more regularity. I'm not saying Gio or Lopez have yet mastered fastball command or their changeups but they both threw the change a lot more recently. Then you need that 3rd pitch to get through the lineup the 2nd or 3rd time. Helps even more if you can also change speed on curves. -
Yea like it hasn't been bad enough the past few years keeping him around as a constant reminder of how terrible that trade was. This is not to diminish his worth as an inning eater or semi coach to the young pitchers. He was originally acquire to boost slim playoff hopes. Once that failed and the rebuild started he's served a valuable purpose. Keep him in mind for future coach but I sure don't want him back as a player.

Eloy's Camp Unhappy: Grievance Possible
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to DirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He usually plays winter ball in the DR. Thats where he gets extra plate appearances. No idea if he'll do that this year or not. I doubt the Sox want him to this year considering he is so close with the injury risk and all. -
Really ? You;re worried that the Sox will rely solely on youngsters. I can guarantee without any doubt since payroll is low they will sign free agents this winter and next winter and also trade prospects to fill other holes maybe not as soon as they start spending on FA's but it will happen There's not a single front office in baseball that doesn't do that . There are tons of trades in the winter , at the trade deadline and just look at all the moves by the contenders at the August waiver trade tradeline that just passed. The Cubs won a World Series and continue to deplete their farm system and spend a lot of money to try to win another one. And look at the prospects they gave up , Gleyber Torres, Eloy Jimenez, Dylan Cease, Jeimer Candelario, and Jorge Soler. That's a lot of top end talent along with others. Darvish, Quintana, Cole Hamels, Daniel Murphy all acquired after they won the World Series either in 2017 or 2018. John Lackey, Ben Zobrist and a huge overpay for Jason Heyward are free agents from the World Series team you didn't mention. Also traded for Wade Davis. You have nothing to worry about except the Sox making poor trades and Free agents and prospects flopping . But there definitely will be a lot going on .
