Griffey Talk
Who really wants Griffey here, the Sox or Barry Rozner? If all this stems from his article, sheesh...

Soprano's Sunday...
QUOTE(Brian @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) No matter what happens in the final 8 episodes. Lots of people will be upset. Some people are probably still waiting for the Russian from the woods to show back up and that was Season 3. Every once in a while, I do wonder (to myself) if they'll dig that character back up. Although, I'm not upset about it, I thought it was good suspense.

We were supposed to have sympathy for these people.
Hey, I can notice a pattern too. I can also do the following, really f***ing obvious, analysis. Blacks are far more likely to have received public assistance, and depend on public assistance, than whites, because poverty in the black communities is much higher. So if the population receiving help is largely black, and everyone receiving help is equally likely to game the system, then a much higher proportion of crooks will be black, even though there's zero difference in criminality. Hey, elementary reasoning is neato!

Soprano's Sunday...
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) When you say "he seems receptive," do you mean Phil or do you mean one of Silvio/Chris/Paulie? Phil. When his captains suggest hitting someone high up in NJ, he doesn't reject it.

Soprano's Sunday...
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) I haven't watched this show much recently, so I'm gonna have to ask this. Why would they kill Silvio? I'd be unhappy with that, as he's been one of my favorite characters. Lotsa spoilers, most of 'em spoiled earlier... NY killed Vito, and NJ retaliated by killing a captain who visited NJ to mock them about Vito, also by blowing up one of their hangouts. (NY seems pretty sure NJ killed their captain, although they can't prove it.) NY captains suggested Phil kills Tony, but he refuses to kill a boss. They suggest he gets someone high up and close to Tony, and he seems receptive. Tony tried to make peace, but it's not clear if it had any effect. You figure that's Sil, Chris, or Paulie, if anything happens. Then trying to guess what the show will do, I think -- killing Paulie is unlikely (not that interesting, and I'm not sure Johnny Sack would let it happen after Paulie's help). So Chris or Sil -- I just think Chris is too obvious to make a good whackee, plus Sil is really the biggest loss, so that improves the drama (imagine Tony actually having to depend primarily on Chris, as drugged up as he's become, again, with Chris bopping Skiff). Since it's the last 8 episodes, they can afford Sil's character at some point. Jmho.

Man Soo Lee
Ya, sure, a likely cover. Remember every time you hear about "The Man Soo Bender" -- the guy was NOT a pitcher.

Soprano's Sunday...
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) I would normally agree with you on this point but don't you think it's getting old that they take the idea of a mob war to the brink and then pull back right at the end? Tony saved when Johnny Sack gets thrown in jail, Tony saved when Phil has a heart attack... AJ's develpment would be worthwhile if he could act. He's just so overshadowed by the great acting of everyone around him, IMO. I don't know that Tony's saved. Phil never agreed, and all he'll need to send him over the edge again is the mention of his brother's name. His captains know that, and some of them wanted Tony killed. Or if word came back to him that Tony celebrated his heart attack, etc. I think it was nicely wrapped up as a prelude to a final bloodbath. Nothing's resolved, every relationship is uneasy. The NY-NJ war is uncertain, Ade has been put off, but not exorcised, especially if her mother does anything further, Chris is still screwing someone Tony's hot for, one of the relatively stabilizing characters (Meadow) has vanished, and we're having Christmas in June. AJ seems to be improving quickly, but that's happened with AJ and Tony before, and it all evaporated. Overall, I think the mood is a very uneasy peace. Btw, I think the idea that Sil gets offed looks good, especially as scarce as he's been the last few episodes.

And you Thought It was Only you Phone Records
QUOTE(IggyD @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 01:26 PM) Again I say. I did not know there were rules that a post must remain on topic. Per this catagory " The Filibuster" Is that not what I am doing? So far you have nothing to debate, discuss or add to the rant/rave. I do not see name calling or critique the person posting in the description!! Lol, you said you were replying to the other two posts and engaging in a discussion. Now at least you're admitting that it had nothing to do with the topic of the thread, nothing to do with the posts you were nominally replying to. And the fact that you didn't back up your characterization of me with fact 1 I'll take as an admission that you're just pulling s*** out your ass. Which is par for the course. I wouldn't say I have nothing to add. I'm ranting against bats*** crazy conspiracy theorists degrading the quality of debate with their illogical rambling bulls*** nutjob imbecilities. At least that has something to do with the origin of the thread.

And you Thought It was Only you Phone Records
QUOTE(IggyD @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 03:31 AM) I do not know why I am even bothering to reply as you have nothing to add to a discussion. This is about thought and this s*** hole we now find ourselves currently deployed.... :finger As for being a Democrat, They lost me a long time ago. Neither party deserves ANY Dedication or support. I am sick of this " Lesser of 2 Evils" option. As for South Park, those programs were the only MSM that spoke and still Speaks the truth except for a few liberal shows that are only beginning to surface again now because of the up coming elections. Sounds like you are a right winger that cried with everyone else from the brainwashing Fox and this Neo-Con administration pumped into your head 24/7. Liberals or anyone with an once of compassion or real patriotism that speaks about what is really happening you give cute little names. Your mission is to try and degrade true thought without reasoning and discussion just like every other Neo-Con zombie. Hey, let me ask you. Where you will be working (Like a Good Little Neo-Con) this election season to help massage the voting numbers in November? As for copy and paste. That is done when I am trying to bring information to the forum for DISCUSSION! If you had even engaged me in discussion you would see my replies are not cut and paste. I do try to give links for reference of my thoughts about the findings in the media. BTW, not a hippie. I was rasied in the Back of the Yards. Wanna take a walk with me there someday? 48th & Throop. If by "discussion" you mean ignoring everything that was said and ranting, good job. Two people responded on-topic, and you go off on some half-ass diatribe totally unrelated to their posts. Why don't you just title every thread "Iggy wants to be loud again"? As for the rest -- that is by far the most idiotic summary of my politics that has ever been offered. How you reached that conclusion baffles me. I think, instead of using that cross-streets, I could just ask around to find the asylum. I do, however, apologize for the "hippie" comment, to hippies everywhere. After giving it some more thought, you strike me as more the unabomber type.

And you Thought It was Only you Phone Records
QUOTE(IggyD @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) Get a grip..I was replying to the 2 quotes in my reply..topics flow from input of others...are you that dense? Lololololololol...etc. The ONLY thing that related your adorable little tirade to those posts was a tangential relationship to the executive branch. Replying, BULLs***. You're looking for any excuse to spew the same stuff that matches every satire of liberals in the Bush years. You're straight outta South Park. YAS expanded it to the phone records debate, but only as a contrast to the original post. Balta referred to nothing BUT the library issue. Clearly, that gave you carte blanche to discuss the whole record of the Bush administration in sweeping generalizations. Now, as for "dense" -- look in the f***ing mirror. Or the lake by your hippie pseudo-kibbutz, since mirrors are often produced by corporations. If this isn't some neocon parody of liberals, that is. You know, it's pretty rare for me to disagree with Dems nowadays, but you are the faroutiest nutjob that's visited this place in....forever. Some of the most liberal posters here have labelled you a whacko copy-and-paste job. Be sane or stfu.

And you Thought It was Only you Phone Records
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) Here is the only way your phone conversations are private. You can use this state of the art technology marvel that keeps your conversations point to point. You fool! That's not private -- those cans were made by corporations! There's bound to a microchip feeding all conversations back to Karl Rove's cell phone.

For all you chicken littles out there...
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 01:45 PM) If you hate threads like this, I can't imagine how you feel about replying to a thread like this The point is, there's nothing to reply to. There's no substance. Anderson's hitting badly? I think it will work itself out. Uribe too. I can feel it. Politte's sucked? Well, I really think he's respectable now. We have little more than our closer in the pen? Well, I'm not worried. There's no analysis, just 'In my gut is happy times...' Whoopee. A thread like this says 'Shut up, anyone saying anything negative -- it bums me out'. If the team's playing like s***, then fans aren't going to be happy, deal with it.

And you Thought It was Only you Phone Records
Geez...I don't know if you're really this nuts or if you're just a parody. You don't even stick to the topic in YOUR OWN DAMN THREAD. You go off on wild conspiracy theories that have jack-s*** to do with libraries, etc. How you can write "The Republican vote-counting corporations that massaged the numbers in previous elections and disenfranchised people around this Nation are still in business. Their only reason for being is to keep the Neo- Conservatives in power" and not break down laughing, I don't know. When you outdo Miller's spoof of anarchists, I have to wonder.

And after this gets done, we're gonna bat Uribe 2nd and move Iguchi down in the order, right? Cuz that always sounded like such a good idea.

And you Thought It was Only you Phone Records
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 2, 2006 -> 04:33 AM) Why resort to the tinfoil hat crap? That was an AP news story. Most of the centrists and left of center posters in here were livid about the phone records thing, when it's just a list of numbers calling numbers. Library records make it very easy to conclude they are interested in who is reading what. That doesn't raise a red flag in your eyes? I think the "GESTAPO" remark qualifies it for tinfoil hat status.

Carl Crawford
Yeah, this sounds like pretty desperate stuff. The DRays do have a bunch of outfielders, but Gathright's got zilch for power, and so far in his ml career he's basically just a good pinch runner. Who knows if Baldelli will remain healthy? They have 4 spots (of+dh), and 2 outfielders who've shown consistent production at this level. Why would they trade one now? Even if Young comes up and Baldelli plays the rest of the year, they can just bench Gathright. Then if they hit on Dukes as well, they can make a decision over the offseason. Anyone who knows the DRays system -- is there some reason they wouldn't be able to shift one of the outfielders to 1b, like every other team in the majors does?

Different Immigration Horse to Beat
QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) What's that mean...? It's real dollars out the paycheck! Every year the average price level goes up by some amount, lately 2-3%. Meaning, to buy exactly the same stuff you bought last year costs 2-3% more -- inflation. (Everyone buys different stuff, so inflation is different for different people. The CPI is basically the average over everyone in the US.) Because you need more (nominal) dollars to buy more (real) stuff, it makes sense to adjust dollar values so that it corresponds to the amount of stuff you can buy. After this adjustment for inflation, the value is said to be in "real dollars".
