QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 02:14 PM) She is a Pro Se Plaintiff and she has no idea what she is doing. That being said the amount demanded really is irrelevant (in certain counties it may determine if you are in municipal or law division or if its a small claims complaint different rules apply), she could file a lawsuit for $100 and say that the damages are ongoing and continuing and ultimately be awarded with $900 trillion if she was to be able to prove the damages. As a practical matter the amount claimed is usually your best shot, its a starting point for settlement etc. Yeah, my first thought was, "Well, there's a lawyer that's getting sanctioned" until I saw she was a Pro Se plaintiff. There's plenty of wriggle room for the amount of damages a plaintiff can claim -- there just has to be a legal certainty it's POSSIBLE to get the relief claimed. Safe to say that rule isn't satisfied here.

Wow, the Central has some terrible corner OFs.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 9, 2012 -> 12:26 PM) I'm predicting 64-57 IU. A game Illinois has within reach but can never really get closer than 3-4 points. If Indiana is hitting their threes it could be a long night, if they're struggling Illinois has a legit shot to pull of the "upset." I really don't think these teams are that far apart though. They've overachieved and underachieved depending on the game. The last couple games IU hasn't taken nearly as many threes. They've done a much better job of attacking the rim. If they're able to do that, IU should win, especially since it's at home. -

Supposedly VJ3 is doubtful to play tomorrow, which I more than ok with. I'd much rather see more of Abell + a few guys already playing (namely Oladipo) stepping up as ballhandlers, like what happened against Purdue. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 05:04 PM) His cognitive dissonance is pretty amazing. Or, more cynically, he knows it's dumb and untrue but he also knows that his audience will love it so.... I'd say the latter is pretty accurate.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 11:51 AM) Hannity is still trying to push the "Democrats are weak" line, claiming that Obama wouldn't have killed Osama if he had his way. Wait, what? I thought it was pretty well documented that he was pushing for it harder than others, if anything.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 8, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) What a lucky guy. Indeed. She is downright gorgeous. And, though admittedly this is entirely without basis, she seems like the kind of woman that is insanely beautiful without being all "done up."

Didn't realize Tracy Porter was a free agent. I'd love the Bears to sign him, if only for the incredibly selfish reason that he was by far my favorite player in my time at IU (even though we only overlapped by a year).
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 7, 2012 -> 10:38 PM) Good chance Bowe is available too. The Chiefs have to choose between him and Brandon Carr for the franchise tag. I would love Bowe on the Bears, as well as Colston -- but hasn't he had some nagging injuries that are a concern? Manningham could be great, or be a bust. Even with his injury this year, I still can't figure him out.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 7, 2012 -> 10:31 PM) Ya, they're the best team in the country. Obviously anything can happen come tourny time but because of the way they defend they're going to have to miss a lot of jump shots to be beat. Agreed. Far and away the best team this year, imo. Which makes the "1" on the right side of their record that much sweeter! -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 7, 2012 -> 09:16 PM) Dwayne Bowe Marques Colston Vincent Jackson Mike Wallace (RFA) Stevie Johnson Mario Manningham Wes Welker And how many of those guys are likely to actually be available (ie, not franchised or incredibly likely to re-sign with current team)? Maybe just Colston, Jackson, Manningham?

Is that Dickie V on the Florida-Kentucky game? Wow he sounds weird with a cold. -
Isn't the WR free agent pool pretty deep this year?

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 6, 2012 -> 09:28 PM) Ozzie's dumbass just ended up with the ball at the Depaul game... Yeah, I saw that. DePaul with an impressive collapse here. They were up 41-29, now they're down 60-51. -

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Feb 5, 2012 -> 03:13 PM) Only with Indiana Basketball? Lawrence Central HS in the Indianapolis area hosted a Hoosier Recruit Showcase yesterday. Four games, 8 teams, 7 Indiana commits plus the primary IU taget for the 2015 class. Here is how they did. 2012 Jeremy Hollowell - Lawrence Central - 34 pts 16 reb 2012 Ron Patterson - Indy Broad Ripple - 15 pts and broke the BR all time scoring record 2012 Hanner Perea - La Lumiere Academy - 12 pts 5 reb 2013 Collin Hartmann - Indy Cathedral - 21 pts 2013 Devin Davis - Warren Central - 17 pts 2014 Trey Lyles - Indy Arsenal Tech - 33 pts 18 reb 2014 James Blackmon Jr. - Ft. Wayne Luers - 10 pts (injured near end of 1st half; did not play in 2nd half) One of the top players in the 2015 class, freshman Jalen Coleman of Indy Cathedral had 28 pts on 10-11 shooting. Other notes: Purdue commit Raphael Davis had 23 pts for La Lumiere Big time football recruit Jaylon Smith had 13 pts and 5 reb for Ft. Wayne Luers. Not a bad collection of talent for one gym on a Saturday. Trey Lyles is studly. -

Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers. Needed another road win, and to do it Purdue is especially sweet. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) Which was, however, exactly what a number of states have done, cut back on education spending, cut back on teacher benefits, and use that money to fund upper income tax cuts. And I agree with cutting back on those benefits and funding upper income tax cuts is loathsome! Which STILL doesn't change the fact that your hypothetical, since it was in terms of Alpha's small business, was a poor one.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2012 -> 09:53 AM) Oh, I see, so now you are acknowledging market forces do impact things. So if I then come back to the original claim that dramatically curtailing benefits and increasing workloads for teachers will wind up with worse quality teachers, where we have to play games like teaching standardized tests in order to deal with the fact that the well-qualified people don't go into that profession because it pays below market rates, everyone will agree with me. And, if an executive is doing that to cut taxes for people who won't spend the money anyway, then that would mean that executive is effectively sabotaging his state/organization's future. First of all, I couldn't be "now acknowledging" anything, as that was my first post in this thread. If you were trying to lump me in with AlphaDog's general argument, that would be unwise since I mostly disagree with him. I was solely pointing out that it's silly, in terms of Alpha's small business which were the terms your post used, to compare price-setting for a 1) for-profit, private entity which is using money generated by a pool of customers who chose to spend their money with his company with a 2) governmental body using money generated by a pool of people who don't directly choose to spend money on that service. Of course the market affects things, and I agree lowering salaries/benefits lowers the quality that segment will attract. That still doesn't change the fact that the post of yours I was referencing posed, at best, a terribly phrased hypothetical.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 10:13 PM) So say, if an executive were to try to slash the benefits of his workers while reducing revenue in other ways, you'd say that makes no sense and would make him a terrible executive. No. But the way you posed the hypothetical Y2HH quoted was pretty dumb. Alpha Dog (presumably) wasn't running a non-profit, and he could charge whatever the market paid...a different set up than appropriating tax dollars.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:16 AM) It goes back to the idea (well-supported imo) that minors are incapable of consent. You're right that minors are incapable of consent; my mistake. It still doesn't change the essence of my argument, though. It just rewords/adds to it so that the minors in the "gray area" SHOULD be capable of consent (this ties more into my last paragraph that you quoted).
