  1. QUOTE (Felix @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 08:27 AM) Why does he deserve it? At least he didn't walk away from it just to avoid contact and the potential embarrassment. Plus it was a really, really, really obvious offensive foul on Griffin for clearing out with his off hand. Doesn't make the dunk itself less impressive, but something that obvious should be called. Those statements are all correct. None of which change the fact that Griffin had what many consider one of the greatest dunks of all time over him. Just because it's not his fault doesn't mean he won't, or shouldn't be, twitter's b**** for a day.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 02:41 PM) In high school, friends would always talk about going there cause they didn't really check IDs. I think when the whole area's economy depends on the college kids, they tend to be a bit more lenient. And they make tons of cash on the drinking tickets as you said. Proving you are 19 is also easier than 21. That being said, there is absolutely zero reason why a 19-year old should be let into a place like Kams or COs (back in my day). Maybe Murphys or Legends when they serve food, but that's about it. So in Chambana, do cops come into the bar itself and check IDs of people holding/otherwise possessing drinks? That happened once when I was in Wisconsin, and thought it was really weird, because in Bloomington (Indiana) that never happened. There'd be cops outside the bars, especially at close, to make sure nothing got way too out of hand, but never in the actual bar. However, in Bloomington you needed to be 21 just to get in the door.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) Late this afternoon...and yes...she's from LA originally and all her friends are there...I knew this would probably be part of the deal. We've only been together for 3 months, so this doesn't mean much for me yet...but it does sort of put me to a decision of some sort. Weren't you looking at a job in LA recently? Or am I thinking of someone else around here?
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 08:47 PM) some random googling brought up several law blogs that explained that the onus is on the adult and that ignorance isn't a defense. An adult is aware that fake ID's exist and can't outsource age verification to the bouncer at a bar. Nothing forces or compels you to sleep with a random stranger whose age you cannot readily verify, keeping in mind that official documentation is forgeable. I understand the concerns you're raising here and think that sometimes statutory laws are overly strict and do not allow enough individual judgement for unique and unexpected cases, but I think removing any and all bright line distinctions creates far more problems than it solves. I agree with most of what you've said in this thread, particularly the part about having +- buffer that would supersede the age of consent, but the trouble I have with this scenario is that usually, a person who gets into a bar using a fake ID is 18+ anyway (don't have any data on this, but it seems like a fair assumption). The fact that a person can't use the "but I thought she was 21 because we were in a bar" defense is sort of ridiculous. If things like that were allowed, I think it would alleviate a lot of problems people have with the bright-line rule. Essentially, make it kinda backwards from most instances -- treat it as a presumption there was no mistake of fact, and that would then have to be refuted. I agree with Soxbadger in that statutory crimes lack mens rea...which is a really important of committing a crime. I understand there's subsets that society says should be enforced anyway (ie, no sex with minors, even with consent), but when there are enough instances that says enforcement of the law leads to poor results, we should definitely take a closer look at it. That last bit isn't even saying that these cases in the gray area are predominant -- rather, I'm guessing they're very much in the minority. However, I'm curious if the majority of these cases that can be tried using a statutory law and that do not lead to an ostensibly poor result (like these gray area scenarios) could not also be tried under another law that leads to the same result for them, but would not lead to that result for a case in the gray area.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 08:37 PM) I do believe the Illini fans here have toned down the complaining, etc, since they started getting called out on it more. Agreed. To whoever said (I think it was Boogua) a lot of Illini fans don't do that, you're probably right...but for a long time on this board, every Illinois lost brought an avalanche of complaining about the refs (and not every Illini poster was doing that, but enough to be noticeable). Brian is right though, it's gotten better.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 08:14 PM) Just another Illini fan being paranoid. Notice only one comment about the refs tonight? They've been awful against the Spartans. Dammit fathom, I was trying to give 'em enough rope!
  7. QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 08:04 PM) Did Tirico go to MSU? I mean, I like the guy, but he seems a bit biased this game. In what way? I haven't gotten that at all.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 08:19 AM) Perkins is the official b**** of twitter today Deservedly so.

  10. That Blake Griffin dunk. Wow. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRME9j6f560
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 30, 2012 -> 09:07 PM) Best. Protest. EVER. Pretty much. They're brilliant; otherwise, no one would have any clue about they're trying to stay (though, most people probably still don't).
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 29, 2012 -> 11:11 PM) Ahh gotcha. Was curious why a non mvc guy would bring up an extremely random valley game. Yeah. Though, since I follow IU recruiting, I was familiar with a few names (Odum and Ryan) from their high school days. I do occasionally check on Illinois State, because I had a few siblings go there. That's about the extent of my association with the MVC.
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 29, 2012 -> 09:50 PM) He good. Don't like the Sycs I take it? Well, if I had to pick between the two, I do like Evansville more. However, my best friend from college oversees all the food operations at Evansville's new arena, so I was rooting for the hometown team, so to speak. And for them to stop playing overtimes so he could go home
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 29, 2012 -> 06:37 PM) Indiana is gonna hang at least 100 on Iowa. Ding ding ding. Zeller had 7 dunks.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 29, 2012 -> 05:16 PM) "People may remember by piece on E60...." Who is she again? Yeah, I laughed out loud when she said that. It's one thing to say, "I once wrote a piece on..." and quite another to say "You may remember..."
  16. Ha, this reminds me of the one where they figured out which Cubs game Ferris Bueller attended.
  17. There's a little Hilton Magic for you and Heads, NSS. At least if one of my least favorite coaches (Boeheim) squeaked one out today, one of my least favorite teams (Kansas) lost.
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) I like them, for regular season games, that is. Same
  19. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 02:03 PM) I bet a lot of girls have fooled around with Toews... not as much as Kane. That's more or less what I told her, haha.
  20. Wow. That entire crew from WVa-Syracuse should not be allowed to ref in the tournament this year for missing that blatant goaltend that would have tied it up with 10 seconds left.
  21. Met a girl last night who fooled around with Toews in high school.

    2012 TV Thread

    Shameless. DEFINITELY shameless.
  23. I'm seeing WAY too many comments (from IU fans) on blogs, twitter, etc about the officiating tonight. The bottom line is that the team didn't hit shots when they should have and missed too many free throws.
