QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 13, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) Mustaches would be better. Alexei would look totally badass. He needs a Fu Man Chu.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) Its just another excuse to not talk about important things... Exactly. However, I think it's somewhat important, because if there are a lot of mistakes and whatnot, to me it shows a lack of preparation. However, if it's just a few, it's not a big deal. -
Dumb question...is this related to Plan Colombia at all? Similar benefits, that sort of thing? Or is it completely different?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) Yes it was a nothing offense, but that doesn't mean it was a nothing offense in the eyes of the team. After the Tank situation, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they sat Benson down and said "This is your only warning, you're on probation, we're not cutting you for this, but we don't want to see you doing anything else that could put yourself in jeopardy. You don't have to break the law, we don't want you being caught without a DD somewhere, or being caught out late at night, or anything." I personally wouldn't have cut him had I not told him that, but if you sat him down, told him that you had a zero tolerance policy for anything, and then 2 weeks later he's caught doing exactly what he promised he wouldn't do, then the team would have no choice. Ding ding ding.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 09:41 AM) Remember the Eagleman days? "IIIIIIIIIIIIIII've got something for youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!" It was like the director of those commercials told everyone to speak as if they were in slow motion. I heard a rumor, I have no idea about its validity, that those ads were so bad they actually made enough money to make good commercials. However, people didn't like those, and they had to go back to their crappy ones.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 5, 2008 -> 02:20 AM) Speaking of Weezer, anyone listen to the Red Album yet? Yes. First half was decent, but by the end of the night I was listening to the Blue Album.

Over 10 years ago I saw Pippen at a gas station. I also saw Bill Carmody at a Panera recently.

When I entered the email and stuff it said it ended March 28th...?

As mentioned in the music thread, best musical artist (either North American or all).

QUOTE (Brian @ May 26, 2008 -> 08:15 AM) I have that new Weezer single, "Pork and Beans", stuck in my head after watching the video on Youtube. It's catchy. I like it because it's a lot closer to Blue Album/Pinkerton stuff than Make Believe, which is a good thing. I didn't hate Make Believe as much as some people, but their early stuff is clearly the best.

Official Recruiting Thread II

So apparently the Hoosiers now have 12 scholarships already taken up for 09-10. I'd rather there be a few spots open right now, but I do love what Crean has done on the most part. -
IU sweeps Michigan State to make it into the Big Ten Tournament.

Especially given injury history, I'd want at least 1.5 years of an all star caliber performance before I thought about throwing that kind of money at CQ. I think the extra money it would cost us would be worth it.

I'm listening to 14:59 for the first time ever, and it's definitely a touch...edgier than I expected from Sugar Ray.

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 13, 2008 -> 08:41 AM) So knowingly targeting private information makes it better? If he was just trying to see if he could get in, that's bad. Seeing if he could get in ~and~ find out private information about people is not as bad? I would think if he broke in and did ~not~ look at anything that would be better. Yeah, I see where that can get confusing. I guess for people outside the culture, it's hard to understand. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but I guess I can understand where he's coming from, and that's why I'm on the minority in this one.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 11, 2008 -> 11:12 PM) Its about intent. What is more malicious. The hacker who breaks into a front end system, and puts a hidden file and sends a message to the admin saying I hacked your system, or the hacker who breaks into the system and pulls down all the medical records for the employees of that company. Both of these happen to companies, one of these gets the company in hot water with possible fines and litigation. The action of downloading a record is an action initiated by the hacker. He didnt stumble across it, he didnt accidentally view it. He looked for it, found it and downloaded it. The hacker who breaks in just for fun is simply doing it to piss people off -- he has no actual reason for doing what he's doing, he is, essentially, being a jerk just to be a jerk. On the other hand, someone who goes in finds, grades for him and his friends, has an actual reason. He didn't hack the system because he could or to prove a point, but because it was the means to an end. To me, that is less malicious. Am I condoning what happened? Not at all. I just think punishments already handed out by the school were sufficient, and legal action was not necessary.
-
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 11, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) Thats the kind of intent that warrants a more serious punishment than someone who did it just to say they did it. Why? It's no more (if not less) malicious than the other.
-
QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ May 11, 2008 -> 10:09 PM) Im surprised people are torn over this one. I completely agree with SSI. There is a fine line when it comes to the intentions people who do this kind of stuff have and accessing peoples personal info is over it. Like he said, if it was for show there would be some sort of trophy or a way to document youve been there. Hacking into peoples personal files is a much different issue than someone wanting to show off their hacking abilities. Of course there was an intent -- to find out the class rank of him and his friends.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 10, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) I hope you are so understanding if someone gets your personal information. I mean if you are so forgiving on this, you should just post your social security number, your bank account number, and maybe your medical records for review. I mean we just want to look, we are not going to doing anything malicious. Actually, that's exactly what happened, isn't it? The information the student gathered was used in no ill way whatsoever, even after it was apparently downloaded to his personal computer. And actually intent and maliciousness do factor in somewhat, though not much at this point; however, I think they should have played a large role in determining whether or not to press charges. Also, southsideirish, you mentioned people suing the school over them not protecting the records well enough, and I agree with that -- I was actually wondering why it wasn't brought up sooner.
-
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 9, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) The line was crossed when he decided to download other students info. People hacking for fun or to prove a point usually break into the system and take a trophy. The trophy is usually something that earmarks that you were on the system. The common way I would trophy a system was to place a file on the :gosox1:system, or to pull down the password file. Pulling down other students information is not a trophy, its more malicious. I don't see how that's malicious. To me, malicious would have been more than simply accessing the information -- it would have been disseminating that information or using it to harm someone. I disagree with the second sentence in that I'm not sure how this is more or less blatant that instances where your first sentence would apply.
-
I disagree with the majority too. Where was the malicious intent? Where was the broad dissemination? I think things like not being allowed to walk at graduation, not going to prom, and being out of school for almost an entire semester are sufficient.

It was a great year to pick him in the first.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 9, 2008 -> 12:12 AM) I wouldn't be against some kind of trade with the Reds right now. But obviously not CQ. How bout Dunn and somebody else for Paulie or Thome. They can take pick. What use would the Reds have for Thome?
