Official 2008-2009 NFL Thread
farmteam replied to ChiSox_Sonix's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Is it just me or are Michaels and Madden laying the DeSean Jackson love on pretty thick? He's a good, promising player, but I swear they mention him when he doesn't touch the ball or he's even on the sidelines. -
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 28, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) http://newsbusters.org/blogs/warner-todd-h...let-where-media Apparently the family has asked Obama to stop wearing and talking about the bracelet, but he has decided to ignore them and do it anyway. Then Obama shouldn't be using that particular bracelet. However, the general "We're the GOP so we're the only ones who care about the troops vibe" I keep getting is ridiculous.

Not even close. No taxes and no congress? W-hat? I'm a federalist, if anything.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) That's what he meant yes, but it came off like a kid vying for attention. "Teacher, teacher, look at me! I can shoot the ball too!!" I didn't take it as that at all. As someone (lostfan maybe?) mentioned, the GOP seems to like acting as if they are the only ones who are allowed to care about troops. McCain used his sentimental story, and Obama threw back at him saying "Yes John, I care about them too. What point are you trying to prove?" I'd say it was a draw, but I think it went more towards Obama a little. I felt that Obama was actually trying to talk to McCain on civilized level (calling him John, looking at him, etc.), whereas McCain was more condescending. I think demeanor like that goes a long way with many voters. Also, what was the deal with the "South Koreans are three inches taller than North Koreans" bit?

Sometimes it's when you wake up, sometimes it's a half hour later, sometimes it just takes a while. So, what was it? Today, mine was: Tom Petty- American Girl (and that alternated with Mary Jane's Last Dance for awhile)

Yeah, I'm an Oasis fan.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) ^^^^^ I miss my Kucinich. At the beginning, he was my favorite. Oh well. I disagree with pretty much the main stuff that's been mentioned about Obama so far. -
Q: What's my favorite Beatles song? A: QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) The Beatles - I'm A Loser

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 15, 2008 -> 09:32 AM) Don't Trust Me - 3OH!3 -Working Helen Keller into this song earns bonus points. Definitely. And the bit about "If your boyfriend's got a beef, well I'm a vegetarian" makes me laugh for some reason.

Sugar Ray- Glory John Mellencamp- When Jesus Left Birmingham Foo Fighters- Once & For All (Demo) Dog Love- DMX Sugar Ray- New Direction Manfred Mann's Earth Band- Blinded by the Light Red Hit Chili Peppers- If You Have to Ask Carl Perkins- Matchbox Counting Crows- Cowboys Chris Rock- Clermont Lounge #1 It's kind of odd Sugar Ray came up twice, I don't have too much of them and I have plenty of songs in my iTunes. In general, that list is more or less representative of what I listen to. A couple of them I never listen to at all, but by and large I do.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) I may be ripped apart for this, but I think ANY new/refurbished stadium should have a retractable roof at this point. I think it's ridiculous that with Soldier they didn't either figure a way to put a retractable roof on or move to a location that would provide for one. In terms of baseball, I definitely agree. I can't believe Minnesota didn't put one in with their new one -- that's ridiculous.

That earthquake last May, but that wasn't too bad.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 11:27 PM) Stanzi will start. Hawkeye fans booed JC last Saturday. ISU will use both Arnaud and Bates again. BTW, since I'm working for ISU football this year, if we make a bowl game, I'll be spending Winter Break someplace warm. What do you do for the football team? -
I definitely felt mocking (and then the crowd laughing at) the Community Organizer stuff was a bit classless. I'm more surprised that there hasn't been a lot of talk about her comment about Obama only caring about prisoners' rights (can't remember the exact words). To me, it sounded like she was saying prisoners don't have rights if the U.S. government doesn't want them to.

I'm not exactly sure where I stand on this. I agree something has to be done, but I honestly have no idea what. One reason New Trier and other wealthy districts have so much funding is because of the property taxes, and I could not agree with someone telling a district, "No, you're not allowed to spend more in taxes so your child can get a better education."

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) I saw it last night and was very underwhelmed. Pineapple Express much funnier IMO. False. Pineapple Express was decent but not that great, but Tropic Thunder was one of the best movies I saw this summer. Actually, of all the movies I saw this summer, Dark Knight and Tropic Thunder were far and away the best two. Though Forgetting Sarah Marshall was also pretty good.

IU with a 31-13 win over Western Kentucky. The game was pretty much what I expected. We're definitely going to be worse than last year, but with another soft schedule there's a chance we could sneak into a bowl game. Another interesting thing to note is that few of the starters are seniors, so hopefully this year guys will get some experience, and maybe we can make some noise next year too. And random thought of the day -- Jerimy Finch is a lot bigger than I realized. If either Polk or Thomas (though I really like both of them) go down with an injury, I could see Finch taking a spot and holding onto it. He didn't play as much today as I was hoping, though. -
QUOTE (Felix @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 02:35 AM) - Classes longer than an hour suck, regardless of topic. All of the classes in my major this semester are 1:15 long as opposed to the standard 50 minute class. It's bogus. I prefer 1:15 twice a week to 50 three days a week, though.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) Ha. I'm lucky I get to watch this kid play as much as I do. He is a good kid who gets A's in the class room as well. He isn't the tallest kid on the court but is easily the best rebounder. I heard Indiana maybe the leader (He likes Crean), but don't count out Florida or Kentucky. Lenzelle's Zion Zee Bees will be playing Jereme Richmond's Waukegan Bulldogs in Waukegan in Feb this year. That will be electric. Speaking of Crean and highly touted players, what can people tell me about these two: Dominic Cheek (2009), I heard we had an outside chance to land him since he has a good relationship with recent hire Roshown McLeod, but I don't know about our chances. Matt Carlino (2011), Committed last weekend, he's supposed to be a top 50 player in his class -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 10:17 AM) I'd wear basketball shorts if they had pockets, I have too much crap to carry around. I'm absolutely paranoid if my keys, phone and wallet aren't on me. That.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 02:19 PM) I can't recommend anything. The Q101 Block Party is happening, but I think all the bands on that bill are weak. I'm a Local H fan, other than that I'm not really interested.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) Isn't that the right way to say those words? Apparently not. I guess it's "Kehg" and "Lehg" etc. And I say Flag and Tag the right way, it's the "eg" ones I pronounce differently.

QUOTE (Shadows @ Aug 9, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) Oh you disgust me, I will NEVER say yall and I cant stand how everyone here does that... "yall" "fixin" man I will never talk like Texas people.. I still say you guys no matter how many people it is and no matter the gender, and I catch a lot of s*** for the A sound as well (ex. Chicaaaaago) I also apparently say these words funny as well Word: Eggs I Say: Aigs Word: Greg I say: Craig Word: Crayons I say: Crans Im sure there is more, I get a lot of s*** about the way I talk.. Most of the time they say "because your from ChicAAAAAgo" and try and be funny and make that drawn out A sound I do the exact same thing and get made fun of for it. Crayons=Crans, Greg=Graig, Egg=Aig, Leg=Laig, Keg=Kaig, etc.
