I kind of figured it had to be power pop when I saw Cheap Trick and Fountains of Wayne listed. For the record, I don't mind Fountains of Wayne...but I'm way too easily sucked in by catchy, really melodic songs. Hence, I'm a sucker for power pop. I always feel cheesy when listening to any of that stuff.

Saw Wilco tonight. Pretty good show, they were entertaining. I'm not really into their music (I've listened to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot once and didn't like it) but I've never really given them a chance. I figure if a nationally known act is in town and it's not TOO expensive, I'm kinda obligated to see it.

Thought this part of that msnbc article was interesting...

EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK, EVERYWHERE.... Fun times. I had no idea what I was getting myself into by opening this thread.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 04:08 AM) I could go off on a massive tangent about the state of what I guess people call "indie rock", but I'll just agree with you and leave it at that. I dunno, I kinda want to hear this tangent....

This whole things seems rather fishy. Have there been no major news outlet reports of this, just a youtube video (and a fairly questionable one at that)? There were a lot of statements put forth in that video with no actual facts to back them up. Until I see some more concrete evidence, I'm going to assume this was just something taken completely out of context, at best.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 10:53 PM) I wonder if he's started using again. It doesn't matter, the band is basically The Billy Corgan Experience anyway. I dunno, Chamberlin's drumming is a pretty integral part of their music.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Mar 23, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) I disagree. The best way for US soccer to grow is to start making deals with South America for talent. If the US could start getting the top 18-19 year olds from Argentina, Brasil, Columbia etc to go to the US instead of Premier/La Liga/ Serie A etc, the league would improve drastically. Eventually the top Euro teams would start having to buy the best players from the US, and then the US can begin to further develop South America. The advantage the US has is it that it can conceivably be part of a league with South America, whereby the South American countries could keep their talent and not have to sell it to Europe. Even a "Premier League" with 8-10 US cities and 6 or so South American cities could really damage the European brand. Imagine the North American league having: LA, NY, Chicago, Mexico City (etc) The South American league having: Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Rio De Janiero. That's somewhat intriguing, but I feel it's a bit far fetched, and the travel costs alone would be high.

I'm mildly interested in Jane's Addiction and the Killers, but not enough to make me buy a ticket. Have they released the entire lineup yet?

Wendy's definitely has the best burgers, but their fries aren't as good as Burger King or McDonald's. And whoever mentioned Portillo's...YES. Though my favorite carryout/sit down ever is Booby's in Niles. Best steak sandwich I've ever had.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 11:32 PM) Meh, not as much as you'd think, from what I understand. Why do you say that? I'm thinking about law school right now (I'm a sophomore), and if I do that I'd end up thinking about a JD-MBA, as I'm a business major.

So I couldn't remember if I had actually signed up for Soxtalk League 1 on Yahoo. I go and check, and I had made a team called "Sandwiches" and was like, wtf, why did I pick that name. Then I remembered I had created the team while very drunk and eating Jimmy John's. At least I spelled it right.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) or else everyone in here would be listening to Bach or monk chants because they originated the s***, man In the context of rock and roll, I'd argue that's not true. It's a pretty much purely American invention (you can argue African, but that's more of a stretch).

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) I think you're joking, but I'm going to operate on the assumption that you're not. He's the guitarist and main lyricist for The Who. He basically went insane trying to find a single note that would unite all the people of the world (or something to that end). Yeah I was going for the "Who's on First" type joke there. Apparently I failed.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 09:50 PM) Tell that to Pete Townshend. Who?

Dude, I don't mention cpcblocking a lot..but I jsut did...does that oc***? Anywayts, time for one of my drunk letters again. Dear, Soxtalk:L I am drujnk. Beer is good. So is vodka. Chronicle of my night: went to birthday girl's dorm room, pregamed a little, nothing much, mayueb equivalent (HOLY WOW HOW DID I SPELL EQUIVALENT RIGHT?!?!?!) of a few shots. Went to party. People there. Was fun. Pretty much ran beer pong table...until death cup was hit against us. That sucked. Then DD came. Right before that, had helped REALLY hammered birthday girl to her ride. Twas a decent night. Forgot my jacket,...dammit. but I got Jimmy John's, a,m eating right now...glorious. Greasy, you know the jiommmy hons;s on 10th street? By Eigenmann and Ashton? QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 26, 2009 -> 02:25 PM) TCF by the way has a monopoly on college campuses, atleast in the Midwest. If only they were better...stop offering $50 gas cards and give me better customer service. I've really only seen TCF banks in Minneapolis, and a few in the Chicago area. Bloomington is all Chase pretty much, with your typicaly random smattering of local banks and credit unions.

Anyone see the loose ball extravaganza in the middle of the Northwestern-IU game? It took forever for one team to come up with it or for there to be a jump ball, it was hilarious.
