QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 26, 2014 -> 12:42 AM) It does not come with the territory to treat people like that. You can say they played bad, I'm sure he knows that, but to constantly treat him like that is wrong. Maybe it's just the parent in me but when people behave that poorly, you do have the right to tell them they should treat others with respect. It's just being civilized. I think you are correct in your stand. Booing baseball players from other teams when they are in your house is one thing and can be considered part of the game-right or wrong. You don't boo your own or otherwise treat them with disrespect. Dunn knows the issues with his performance are wanting but the guy is trying to do his best. You can't tell me any player purposely doesn't perform. I read the posts and I just don't think this type of criticism and derision has a place and certainly is not acceptable in fans actions towards a player or even towards one of us on this board. Civility and courtesy and respect should be the rule

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 05:20 PM) It's not my style to boo players, but Dunn still being here is bad for this franchise. Throw the fans who attend the games a bone by getting rid of him. He will have a breakout season this year

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 12:05 AM) Every time you do that someone else will come along and post a new thread about it because they don't see one. Eventually it drops off of the front page and you can unbunch your panties.

To get back on Tanaka track... LOL... I have some real concerns with signing any player to the amount on money this guy got and others like Pujols and A-Rod and some others. That's a ton of bank notes for a long period of time for someone you just don't know can perform at the big league level let along stay healthy. He was a phenom in Japan for sure but even as good a Darvish is - just to compare - he can be beaten even if it's 1-0 or 2-1.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 11:13 PM) Shingo? LOL! I saw Shingo pitch in 2005 in Denver versus the Rockies and a Rockies player swung as hard as he possibly could have at that slow pitch and missed, lost hs bat which went flying and hen he slammed his helmet down and walked off the field really ticked. It was kind of funny to see

QUOTE (saabturbografx @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 01:35 AM) He was the main catalyst of the 2005 team and will never be forgotten I liked Pods. People seem to have short memories here. He did a lot to help us win in 2005. Injuries and not being known as a great glove man kept him down I think

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) The Dylan Axelrod Experience is not necessarily over for White Sox fans. As has been noted by some observers Axelrod has velocity issues and usually sits around 88 MPH or so. The Sox must see something in his ability even though I am not sure what that might be. My first impression is that Hank Aaron's HR mark might be in jeopardy but in this case it's one pitcher giving up that many.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 08:13 PM) @scottmerkin White Sox will have a Mini-Camp for young hitters next Tues-Thurs at @camelbackranch. Abreu, Davidson, Eaton, Hawkins, Nieto, Phegley ... Has this been done before? Three days is odd. Must be intense or the Sox are trying to teach these guys a different approach.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 07:46 PM) If you guys were in the best 1000 people in the world at something, I am sure you too would be making millions. Well, I always thought I was in the top ten but don't make that kid of money. I guess you need to have a talent

Scott Downs signing official, Santos Rodriguez DFA'd

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jan 11, 2014 -> 12:22 AM) Agreed, followed him a lot, as a number of others stated, wish we should have DFA'd Heath. Santos Rodriguez claimed by Arizona -
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 02:52 PM) Obviously I approve, but around here, popularity is an elevator ride. Even for World champion GMs The ghost has spoken. LOL The question will soon be asked and that is "what has he done for us lately?" The fans here are very fickle that way

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jan 5, 2014 -> 09:33 PM) And a bunch of Cubans playing with a guy named Castro - the tasteless gags are endless. Well with that last name there must be some type of relation. It's just like all the Smiths' and Jones' and and Wongs' etc

Do the Sox have an interest in John Buck the catcher? MLB network guys were making a case for the Sox to sign Buck

I volunteer for the job. I CATCH a lot of flak over stuff so I am more than qualified

Merry Christmas to one and all and to all a championship season in 2014

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 25, 2013 -> 04:57 PM) So a better way to spend money on a 25 year old ace is to throw even more money at a 32 year old or spend $300 million on another. I wonder where a guy like Tanaka or any high priced pitcher from Japan fits in with the Sox plans, but I say let's give it a try to sign him. It might make things interesting

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 23, 2013 -> 05:14 AM) Passed away at age 67, prostate cancer. Prayers and good thoughts for Ed and his family. I remember when he played and it was him and Duane Josephson behind the plate for the Sox

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 07:49 PM) If he can't pass a physical with other teams why would we think he could with us? I would like to know more about the results of that physical. What was the medical issue? Balfour's numbers were better in 2013 than Reed's. I like Jones but a proven veteran closer wouldn't be such a bad thing.
-
I don't think the Chisox will be spending $7-10M a year on a closer, or for that mater any other free agent. We have been relatively conservative in our signings. I think Jones is the leading candidate to close in 2014. However, since Balfour didn't pass a physical for the Orioles and claims he is healthy well who knows. Balfour's signing might come at a reasonable price and thus be worth a chance/risk for the Sox. But, I still like Crain to take Jones' set up role and Jesse might come reasonable also

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 07:06 PM) I don't think the Sox are trading Viciedo unless we get surprised and are able to get someone like Grandal for him. To be frank, as quite a few posters have pointed out, there doesn't appear (obviously known of us truly know the market) to be much upside in trading Viciedo due to the perceived overall low return we'd expect to get back. My guess is either Viciedo or De Aza will be gone but it depends I suppose of who has the most trade value. I am guessing De Aza

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) Jones out of the gate, Belisario, Lindstrom could be fillin options if he struggles, either Webb or Petricka could be set for that role long term. Possibly this will be decided by a trade or FA signing? I do like Jones though. Will Jesse Crain return?

Sox trade Addison Reed to Diamondbacks for 3b Matt Davidson
elrockinMT replied to dayan024's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) I had no issue with trading Addy but I wanted the right return. This may be just a little less than I was hoping for but it also is at a position where this franchise could seriously benefit from an upgrade. He's also exceptionally young and, assuming he makes the roster this year (which I'm not sure about right now) he's under team control through 2020. I had called for Reed to be traded earlier in the year. I think he is a good pitcher but regarless of 40 saves I thought he was always skating on thin ice. I believe thjis is the type of trade we will see helping this club. We are getting younger and picking up really excellent young talent. I do not see us done yet either. We may see a closer or catcher coming to this team soon and one of our OF'ers leaving or some money spent on a FA -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 13, 2013 -> 02:25 AM) I don't see where anyone else has said it...but I strongly disagree with the notion that Beckham is an "A" defensively. He's a C right now after being a B the year before hand. Balta, Gordon is rated as one of the better 2B defenders in the league
-
QUOTE (bear_brian @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 09:23 PM) A few facts about Gordon Beckham last year: 1. Beckham hit .287 vs RH pitchers, but only .195 vs LH. That is the exact opposite of what you would think. 2. Beckham broke the hamate bone in his wrist after the first 7 games of the season. He missed six weeks, came back and through July 22nd had his average well over .300. On that date he re injured the wrist, tearing the ligament away from the bone. He continued to play the rest of the year, but hit .240 in August and a lowly .210 in September. When RV says he was hurt, he is not kidding. I think we need to give this kid a break. If his wrist has healed, there is no reason why he cannot be an above average 2B offensively - better than Semien - and certainly he is already an "A" defensively. There is little doubt in my mind that the Sox are going to commit to him unless somebody knocks them off their feet with an offer. Agree with you 100%. I want to see Gordo with this team
