Let's think positive and know that KW is still trying to sign Danks long term

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) I'd be pretty confident that Infante will go into the season penciled in as the 7th guy in the bullpen. Do we go with 5 or 6 starters though?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 18, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) And you'd be wrong. Konerko is in no way shape, or form, better defensively than Gonzalez. Beckham is not better than Pedroia. And Morel is all potential at this point. The only edge we have is Ramirez over Scutaro. It is amazing we can win any games at all

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2010 -> 07:56 PM) Only no one remembers TCQ going out of his way to get up into the knees of the shortstop and roll him during a double play. I remember it and that's one of the reasons I like CQ so much. He is one hardnosed ball layer and wants to win badly. He supports his team mates

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 17, 2010 -> 07:19 PM) How about having the Twins play in the Metrodome during a big snow storm? That might work too!
-
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 17, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) Bench clearing brawl - started by Paul Konerko charging the mound. Have Robin Ventura stand in for PK

I personally think the way to win more games then the Twins is to score more runs and usually that equates into wins

QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 11:11 PM) Sox reportedly offered 1 Year 3.5M, but originally he told the Yanks he was seeking 2 Years and 12M. Something doesnt seem right here, you dont go from demanding 12M to settling for 1.5M for no reason. Me thinks there is more to this story. You are right there. These salary number are huge differences -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) Good for Bobby and best of luck to ya. I agree. Hope he can get things back on track. Sounds like the money is pretty close to what he was getting in Chitown, which is more than the Pale Hose would pay him I think for 2011

QUOTE (3E8 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 04:06 PM) The difference between the Sox being a 90+ win playoff team and sitting at home in Oct in this current roster are Peavy and Quentin. All players have variation in performance throughout their career, but that range of Peavy/Quentin is large. If you combined their best seasons, the two alone would be worth over 10 wins. But both are injury prone, Quentin's range in RF is detrimental, and both could cause their contribution to be next to nothing. A conservative estimate of their 2011 combined worth is 3 wins considering Peavy has to come back from a serious injury and Quentin's defense remains quite poor. Projecting the rest of the roster out, those 3 wins from Peavy/Quentin leaves us at a high-80s win team currently. Carlos Quentin stats for the SEASON 131 453 73 110 217 doubles 25 triples 2 homers 26 RBI's 87 50 3 83 2 2 .243 .342 .479 .821 0.80 Me thinks you try and analyze too much and see only the black cloud of despair. CQ has a ton of talent and was coming back around last year after those injuries. harness that drive he has and we will see a 30-40 homer 100 plus RBI man again. Be patient instead of calling for the beheading of every player who has an off year at times.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 08:03 PM) Was he the guy on the Twins that was suspended for PEDs a couple years ago? I forget. Twinkie players are on lutefisk and granola aren't they?

QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 03:41 AM) I think it's a big addition. And the sox didn't need to trade anyone to get him. Which is just what KW said he wanted to do. People chiming in about a salary dump might see Teahan leaving. Teahan is the odd man out in my opinion. He has lost his starting job at 3B and RF is not his strong point. Just because he is a lefty bat is not a good reason to keep him over the talent CQ brings. If these folks think CQ is a bad defender they need to think about Teahan in RF. Teahan might be the insurance though in case Morel doersn't make it this spring or Viciedo can't step in at3B. Interesting to see what happens with those guys.

QUOTE (bear_brian @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 02:29 PM) I have been thinking for some time now that KW has been trying to get finalization out of Danks - either get him to sign an extension, or move him now. What about Danks and Quentin to the Dodgers for Matt Kemp and a reliever (my fantasy is Broxton, but that is far-fetched)? Sale goes to the rotation. This all assumes that Peavy will come back healthy. A different scenario would be Peavy and Quentin, but not as sure Dodgers would bite on that one. Why would we do this? We are putting together a real contender here and now we start with the tearing it down.? CQ will not be traded and my hope is we keep our starting staff inatct. That is our strength

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 01:58 AM) This is what I get for stopping in the middle of studying to check Twitter. I have a final in 15 minutes, and I've only studied for about 20 minutes so far.... Studying for tests is overrated compared to keeping up with Sox baseball
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 04:07 AM) The only thing you got right in your post is that Konerko is going to regress from last season, that's a 100 percent fact but Adam Dunn will more than make up for that. Also, I'm not sure why everyone thinks Mark is going to fall back, he'll be just fine. I mean, who knows, there's been a ton of Sox teams that have severely disappointed me but barring injury, I just can't see how this is only an 85 win group. Maybe he will hit 39 homers and drive in 115 runs. This team should be considered the top contender in the AL Central and a legit AL champion contender too

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 16, 2010 -> 04:01 AM) THIS!

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) LMAO! Why did you have to remind us of that guy! I had forgotten him. Signed by the Yankmees I believe
-
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) I agree that one was the least likely. But really, I'd just take Gardner for Floyd there, which is at least a little more likely. Joba would be a nice piece for the pen, but isn't necessary. The whole plan would still work. Joba the Hut has been a failure so why do we want him?
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 04:29 AM) Am I the only crazy person who doesn't want to trade anybody from our rotation???? This doesn't make ANY sense to me. We're going "all in" by trading a piece of our awesome rotation? Or by dealing a good bat for relievers? You are correct in your indignation in my humble opinion. Why trade our strength to fill some perceived hole. You justy weaken yourself somewhere else. There may be trade, but not of CQ and I would rather explore the FA market if possible for a reliever
-
QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 02:04 AM) Yankees have tons of prospects, 1.5 quality starters and some OF love to go around. Kenny, make the call.... We'll take Granderson too.... Is somebody selling off their team?
-
It might be possible - but then again maybe not Really Crain might be better than Guerrier what do you think?
-
QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) Coop'll fix him. I was waiting for that post
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2010 -> 07:58 PM) You get the point though...dealing Mark Buehrle does pretty much nothing other than save money...and it's saving money that we really won't be able to spend this offseason. It might free up some money to take on salary at the trade deadline, but either way, that's all we get out of it; money, and that money isn't likely to be spent on anything that would help the team as much as Mark! I agre with you plus if we need to save money by trading away a #1 pitcher than all we are doing is going backwards or keeping the status quo at best. We are in this thing to win it not worry about the budget. We wouldn't have seen the moves we did if that was the case. How many pitchers are active today that have two no-hitters to their credit?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 12, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) It wouldn't surprise me if they listened on Mark, but they won't get enough for him to justify trading him in the public's eyes. I think any team and any GM would listen to offers on any player they had, but to say they are activelt trying to trade him is probbaly just not true. KW came out and said he wasn't trying to trade CQ and I think that is correct. I don't really see why some think we have to trade these guys. We are putting together a real good team by adding the free agents and I don't see the main roster being traded away

Multiple Sources: Sox actively shopping Quentin

QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 07:09 PM) I'm of the opinion that, in modern times, any beat writer who only posts information that turns out to be correct, isn't working very hard. You are right they should just make things up to keep their jobs. After all they can just later say that the fake deals they wrote about just fell through
