QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 08:23 PM) It's not ideal. If Flowers has a future with the Sox it's going to start as being the backup C. This would be like a 3 week tryout. Next year as the #2 catcher adn learing the game better from AJP
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 08:08 PM) a pinch-hitter for Morel would be more valuable than Lillibridge or a seventh reliever. Flowers would be the best option. He could also get some AB's as the backup C. a pinch hitter not named Smokey Burgess-is a waste of a roster spot
-
Should be room for both. We only need 11 pitchers at this point

Let me say this about all that. This is the greatest game ever! On opening day we are the equal of any team and at the end of the season we will see where we are. I think we will win it all! And if we don't- well, then there is always next season.

Tex, 20 plus years of following the team? Try 52 years since I was akid just starting little league baseball with a Nellie Fox glove. But, good post by you

QUOTE (YASNY @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 07:41 PM) What is "Thirty Days in the Hole." That's what I threatened my granddaughter with when she was bugging me. She then said, "I wouldn't want to do that cause I'd miss you guys too much." Gotta luv em and you Soxposters too

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 10:40 PM) Ouch, my bubble He just bursted us!

QUOTE (striker @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 09:59 PM) If Flowers continues to hit well in AAA and Pierzynski's bat never comes back, what would you do? Even if it does come back he tops out at about .330 OBP. It would be tough to trade AJ since he took a pay cut for us but business is business. If Flowers is tearing it up then it's hard to ignore him, and you can't keep trading everyone away. I personally was hoping AJ left and we gave Flowers a chance. If he continues to hit and AJ struggles then I say we ship off AJ. What would you do? Maybe Flowers will be the backup to AJP later this year ? Not sure why anyone would think AJP isn't going to hit? If we use your reasoning we had better trade Dunn right now too as well as some others on this team. Oh, I forgot it's Spring Training.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) My glass is half empty on Dunn. He strikes out about 40% of the time and is barely hitting .200. At least he doesn't clog up the bases. We gave up a lot of money and a #1 draft pick this year. This will go down as one of Kenny's worst moves, I believe. He does strike out a lot, but will hit a lot of homers, drive in a lot of runs and most likely get a lot of walks. I loved Jim Thome, but he struck out a lot also. Not many guys can be the Big Hurt that's for sure. The K's are expected and it's only ST time so my guess is he is striking out a lot now to get it out of his system

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 22, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) nice inning by Sale, even with the single A defense behind him. Royce Ring sighting! Chris Sale's outing is encouraging
-
It sure makes you feel better about your team when they win. The Sox haven't shown a lot as far as wins this spring. I know it's only ST, but you still like to win. These minor league pitchers of ours come in and always seem to get banged around.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 20, 2011 -> 04:43 PM) Ozzie is 2 for 2 over the last couple days. Now if we could just find a way to cut Pierre's at bats in half. There is a right and a wrong to this statement
-
QUOTE (qwerty @ Mar 19, 2011 -> 11:19 PM) He only has one pitch and was bad in the chances he had to close. I wouldn't do it. I have seen him throw more than one Plus he deserves it

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 12:50 AM) No surprises. Gartrell seemed to be having a pretty good camp but I don't think he ever had a chance to make the roster. He'll get his chance at some point in the near future. Impressive but still young and learning

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Mar 13, 2011 -> 07:07 PM) I believe that all of this Teahen love right now is being generated by KW to develop a buzz so some team will take him off of our hands. We need D, I want Morel. Yes, Morel can hit enough and he will be Ozzie 9th place hitter and Vizquel will play 2 games a week. I believe Teahan is being showcased, but if he shows enouhg maybe the Sox will keep him. Really boils down to what yopu can get for him other than unload his contract. Teahan's erros seem to be throwing errors. What does that mean? Footwork or grip on the ball or arm angle? I haven't seen a lot of ST TV games with Teahan in there to say. I do see Morel making some real fine plays though.
-
QUOTE (balfanman @ Mar 13, 2011 -> 02:15 AM) Ozzie states in tonight's Tribune that he's been impressed with Teahens' 3rd base defensive improvement of late. Just because Teahen made one diving stop. If you have been bad then one good play is all it takes. Throwing errors seem to be his thing
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 12, 2011 -> 02:53 AM) Try to find another cheap, speedy player who can play 2nd, 3rd, ss, lf, cf, & rf. If he gets playing time, he can put up good stats. He did it last year while Teahen was out. I agree that Lillibridge is a valuable utility player.

Viciedo fractures thumb during ST game on HBP

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 10:39 PM) I'm waiting for the inevitable posts about him, just like Hall and Mitchell the last two years... He's done Trade him for a Yankee farm scrub. Anyway that answers that for about 2 months. I would expect Teahan's value and the team need to inflate and he will stick with the team. -
QUOTE (since56 @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) I see Viciedo as 4th outfielder/dh for some other team. If this team trades Viciedo it's nuts. I don't see it happending anyway. The fellow played in the OF in Cuba so it's not new. He also has played 1B and 3B. I see the potential here that Dayan makes this team because of his bat and his being adequate defensively and then they trade Teahan if there are any takers
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 01:41 AM) The plan is for him to throw primarily fastballs, or so I heard. He looked good!
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 3, 2011 -> 11:40 PM) Damn, Dayan is really pushing to make the team as the 4th OF, although I think I'd rather have him playing full time in AAA. Then again, if we are "ALL IN" and willing to stunt Sale's growth to benefit 2011, then we may as well bring Viciedo as our 4th OF. Apprently made a real good defensive play out ther too earlier in the week adn threw a guy out at 3rd base. Ozzie was impressed

QUOTE (quickman @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 01:15 AM) For those who have Direct TV the sox will play the angels and will be televised by angel tv on channel 692. Anyone who has the traditional sports package will be able to watch this game. It's on the MLB Network also. I have the DVR set. Peavy pitches

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 11:57 PM) Mark Teahen has started 290 games in the outfield in his career. Mark Teahen can play in the outfield. I think he can too plus when you look at developing a roster I believe you look at versatility. Teahan can play 3B and the OF and maybe IB all when needed. Milledge will get his chance to show what he can do as will others trying to make the roster out of ST, but in the end a vetrean player like Teahan probably gets the nod
-
Potential. What an intriguing word. But, this is what ST is for and if Dallas McPherson can impress anything can happen. It might also at least put him on the short list to be recalled from AAA if the need arises.

QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 07:50 PM) Early spring training talk. Nothing to get too excited about. I watched the ST game, which of course was the first one of the spring training schedule, and Dunn struck out twice and Konerko once. I think we should trade them both as they obviously don't have it anymore My point is you are right Tex!
