QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 04:08 AM) Emotion has nothing to do with baseball. To alosing club maybe. And yes, there is no crying in baseball

QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 07:15 PM) That is him looking for pickoff/pitchout signals, not which pitch to call. You will notice he only does that with a runner on base And don't you see that with all catchers? Looking into the dugout mind you, but at times managers do call pitches

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) The thing that AJ's going to run into as a major problem is convincing other teams that he won't be a clubhouse cancer. The Sox at least know that they can deal with him personality wise for the most part, but every other team's players and often managers have had him get under their skin already. Plus, they know he has a history of having pitchers and coaches he doesn't get along with (i.e. S.F.) and there were probably a couple incidents in Chicago that filtered out that might make other GM's wary as well (the whole college football on every TV in the locker room thing from 09). I'd expect some team, maybe the Rangers, maybe others, will wind up making AJ an offer, but I really doubt that any team is going to go that aggressively after him. It'll probably be a situation like when he originally signed with the Sox...unless the Sox extend him, he'll be out there until January, some team will give up and realize their catching position stinks, they'll sit down with him repeatedly to make sure that they think they can live with him, and they'll put together an incentive-rich deal of some sort. I think using the term "Clubhouse Cancer" is awfully strong. I don't know if that's your personal opinion of AJ or not, but if his style of play makes some in baseball think of him that way then I want more guys on my team like AJP. He has done a very good job with the Sox IMO

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Nov 4, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) Flowers has a lot of power however I have not seen a swing or an approach that looks conducive to contact. So far he looks like a right handed Joe Borchard. He needs to make an adjustment to his swing so he can square up the ball yet not miss it most of the time. As much as AJ frustrates people with his swing first approach his ability to make contact is something that will be missed if he leaves the lineup. Before the season I was all for letting AJ move, however I have not seen anything out of Flowers in the minors this year or at the majors that tells me he is going to be a contributor at the major league level this year. I think we have to keep AJ at this point. Flowers is still a work in progres and needs to step it up a notch

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) He can't throw a guy out and seems to be getting worse with the bat (although his 2009 makes it impossible for me to come to a real conclusion about his future hitting ability). If Buster Posey just won the world series as a rookie, what does that say about AJ's wonderful intangibles? Does Buster have that rare talent of calling a great game like AJ, or have we put too much emphasis on this trait? We've basically put OBP and defense on the backburner for AJ because of this wonderful "skill" of his. Granted Catcher is a hard spot to find production, so offensive stats need to be comparably weighted to other catchers. Fact remains: he can't throw anybody out, he's getting old, and that 2010 bat of his was pretty useless. He was my least favorite guy batting last year, almost cringe-worthy. I think catcher would be a wonderful spot to infuse some new blood. I'll take him back but I wouldn't prefer it. It's hard to throw people out when the picthers don't help you by keeping them close. I believe we have heard many times that our pitchers aren't good at holding runners close. It seems to me you would want to look more at throwing errors by a catcher. I don't think AJ had many. AJP is a good catcher and delivered a number of clutch hits

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Not outstanding in the OF, but I suggest him as a 1B for the Sox. Has he ever played there? Anyway let's concentrate on PK

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) One year deal. I for one like this deal. Vizquel is a very valuable guy to have on the Sox
-
I would like to see the Sox go after Kerry Wood though. He can help fill that 7th and 8th inning set up role
-
We need to look at players who can stay healthy and contribute all season. Nick Johnson doesn't fit in at least one of those two categories
-
Can we please just agree that this idea of trading Jon Danks is just crazt talk

Sox shortstop Ramirez earns all-star recognition October 20, 2010 12:37 PM | No Comments By Mark Gonzales White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez was named Wednesday to The Sporting News' American League all-star team. Ramirez, 29, batted .282 with 29 doubles, 18 home runs and 70 RBIs in 156 games. Ramirez is the third shortstop in Sox's history to receive this honor. Luke Appling (1936, 1940 and 1943) and Luis Aparicio (1968-70) are the only other Sox shortstops to win this honor. Ramirez led all AL shortstops in batting average, home runs, slugging percentage (.431) and total bases (252) - making him a strong candidate to win the league's Silver Slugger Award awarded to the top offensive player at each position. Ramirez led the AL with 768 total chances, the most by a Sox shortstop since manager Ozzie Guillen handled 806 chances in 1989. Ramirez is the first Sox player to be named to TSN's AL all-star team since third baseman Joe Crede and outfielder Jermaine Dye in 2006.

Which Sox home grown talent will have the best career with the Sox?

Colby Rasmus should be on the White Sox radar

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 06:50 PM) I can tell you one thing that isn't happening with the Cardinals this year. They're not taking on salary. They have something of a large possible commitment coming up to a guy who plays 1b for them. Their total salary has bounced between $90 and $98 million the past few years. Simply signing that guy is a commitment to instantly go beyond $110. Adding Buehrle would push that to $125. Then let's get Albert Pujols. Makes about as much sense as the article on Rsmus and us trading Danks and 2 good prospects for the guy -

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 12:34 PM) The money is the only thing I don't like about the deal. I think Jackson is a better pitcher now and may be the better pitcher years from now when you look back. Regardless, I agree with what greg said. I hope he has a kick ass year in 2011. I agree that Edwin Jackson is here and hopefully working in ST with the other pichers and Don Cooper will keep him on the ball. As far as tyhe money is concerned: there are a lot of bad contracts that have been negotiated by teams that are now causing problems. Salaries were out of control and still are for the most part. But, that's another story

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 12, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) Nothing of note here. We're always in win now mode. We just don't win nearly enough. We have heard it all before for sure
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 11:47 PM) I like the Pena idea, but he may want more money than Konerko. He can elsewhere as far as I am concerned. We need to sign Konerko

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) Wow, I didnt see that AJP is a type A free agent this year. I would like to offer he and Konerko arbitration and either bring them back (not likely) or get some nice draft picks. I wonder what AJ would make in arb after this s***ty year. It is likely IMO that they both will be back with the Sox and well they should be. If they are not I see this team at 3rd or 4th place next year in the AL Central

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) A guy that I think fits Kenny's M.O. very well and might be, at least under the radar, on the trade block...Billy Butler from the Royals. KW knows the Royals well, he's a guy who's beaten us before, he isn't hugely expensive, he has some limitations that would keep him from being a big cost guy, he tentatively fills one of those 1b/DH roles with a guy who should give around an .850 OPS, and he's blocking 2 of the Royals young guys (Kila Ka'aihue and Eric Hosmer, who has a shot to arrive this year). We will be looking for the LH bat this off season. I don't see Kotsay back and maybe Teahan becomes trade bait?
-
You don't trade your strength to fill some other need. There are other ways to improve the team rather than trade away our starting pitching or good talent like Quentin. I am not sure this team needs any major overhaul anyway as long as we can re sign the leaders that may go to free agency. The bullpen is where I see the major need
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 11:45 PM) Not a chance he wins it, as his error total climbed too high. I believe he ended with 19. Alexei is pretty special with that leather, but they probbaly give it to Jeter just cause he's a Yankmee. Now Alexei might have a pretty good chance for the Silver Slugger though unless they give that to Jeter cause he's a Yankmee

It is so good to end the year with a win. I'll be here from time to time this winter and look forward to the winter trading and free agent signings that will occur.
