  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 11, 2005 -> 05:25 PM) I know nothing about this... I know nothing about it either, but would love to have the hacked info so I can decide whether it is worth it. I will let you know around November 1.
  2. QUOTE(beck72 @ May 10, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) Fast forward to the trade deadline, and the Sox are still sitting atop the AL Central and hold one of the best records in the AL as well. Say the Sox hold a 5 game lead on the Twins, and about a 10 game lead for the wild card. Say the Sox regulars are playing well, with no injuries, and are rounding into decent shape [Dye, Rowand and PK all get back close to their regular avg's, and Frank provides a good lift, splitting time with Everett to make Carl a big bat off the bench]. Say the pitching comes back to earth a bit, but not that big of a fall. The Sox won't be adding a starting pitcher, with B-Mac good insurance even if an injury would occur. The sox likely wouldn't be adding an everyday player or a starting pitcher. Maybe a bench guy, but the price wouldn't be high. The only real spot where the Sox could add an impact player would be the bullpen [a complete, true closer--I like the Sox bullpen, but no guy is the "unhittable" type]. Would you do a deal centered around prospect Brian Anderson [and probably a bullpen arm or two like Baj or Diaz] for Billy Wagner? I know Wagner is a FA in 2006. And the sox likely wouldn't offer a closer making $9 mill arbitration, so they'd lose him for nothing. A deal like this would be for getting deep into the playoffs, and a possible world series appearance. With the depth in the Sox OF [Dye for another yr, Pods should be re-signed, Aaron for 3 more yrs], Anderson likely wouldn't get a shot. By the time the Sox may need Anderson, Sweeney and Chris Young would likely be ready. The flipside is how often have the sox been a team with a solid chance to win a world series. If the Sox keep up their current play, they would have a very good chance keeping the roster as is. But adding a dominating LH closer like Wagner would compliment the Sox current pen very nicely. Thoughts? You don't trade one of your best rated prospects for a role player that may only be there for a year or so. Don't ever suggest gutting your system. We did this 2 or 3 years in a row with no success.
  3. QUOTE(JimH @ May 11, 2005 -> 02:38 AM) You guys tell me how the pitching should've been handled differently, other than Politte coming in instead of Vizcaino? If he has Vizcaino coming in earlier than Politte it means he wants to save Politte for the later innings. How many walks tonite, 9? That's what killed them. I think that says enough right there Jim! I have always been concerned about the bullpen. We have some real good relief pitchers, but then we have some real inconsistent ones too. I think we need a trade for a real closer. That is the one weakness I see with this team. But, it's only two losses, granted we shouldn't be losing to TB, but the damn Yankees did too. Hopefully Shingo and Viz get it together and our big boppers start producing on a regular basis. We can't continue blowing leads like we have lately.
  4. I can't believe how this game ended. Vizcaino with an ERA over 7, but Ozzie likes the guy. Shingo is a home run waiting on every throw. How many has he given up this year? Should Hermanson close or should we be trading for a closer? I don't see the consistency with Shingo or Viz and you don't know who is showing up the super closer or the super blower. You don't lose two games in a row to the Devil Rays.
  5. I am constantly amazed, in a good way mind you, how Jose C and even Hernandez can make the right pitches in critical situations.
  6. Sometimes Jose has these problems where he can't stand the good fortune of having a lead. He also wants to nibble too much when he gets in trouble,
  7. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ May 9, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) Even Sox fans wouldn't put the Sox vs. DRays on. Once basketball is over, we will be on ESPN as their second game a bunch over the summer. I am sorry retro, but I would!
  8. QUOTE(Kogs35 @ May 9, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) wgn has saturday besides this thursday night AND ESPN has picked up the Whitesox-Rangers game on mondaynight. and the wed game vs texas on wgn I did not know that! But, it's great.
  9. QUOTE(soxman35 @ May 9, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) I say we try to get rid of him we are playing great ball and i do not want to move Carl. He is playing great ball. Nor put Paul in as DH Soxman35, you should be ashamed of yourself and I demand you change your soxtalk name, or at least the number 35.
  10. For those of us who are held hostage to watching TV baseball I thought you woud like to know that the Thursday night game versus Baltimore will be on WGN. I see ESPN has Monday night baseball from the East Coast. It isn't the best team in baseball playing Tampa, but the has been Yankmees. It really is becoming a Yankee and Red Sox network.
  11. QUOTE(upnorthsox @ May 9, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) You can never have too many good arms. That said, I don't see us getting him because there's just too many teams in the hunt for a closer. I would love to get Rob Mackowiak though, Mackowiak and Mesa for Harris, Cotts, Perez, and Borchard/Adkins, ahhh it's great to daydream on a Monday morning. Daydream? My God, You are delussional! No way would I look at that kind of a trade. You don't give up that many talented players for one guy we probably don't need. It has to be a fit. I like the bullpen except for Vizcaino and you have to hope he will get on track.
  12. I don't understand the move at this point either, but Ozzie and Kenny must remember that he was pretty good in spring training. Charlotte is a small park and gives up the homer easily (except if you are Joe Borchard). But, then again maybe there is a trade in the wind?
  13. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 8, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) Him moving his legs is a good sign against serious injury, right? I'm clueless about these things... I would think so Sleepy. Measn that he has ability to move arms and legs and if something was broken, like his neck, he probably wouldn't be moving. Head injuries are a bad deal though.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ May 8, 2005 -> 07:53 PM) I'm hoping this is all precautionary stuff. They're taking their time out there, so if it was life-threatening, he would have been on his way to the hospital by now. You just can't be certain. They have to stabilize before transport.
  15. Then they all have to get back in the frame of mind to play for one more out . Got to be tough on all the players, but esp. the Jays.
  16. QUOTE(SHAFTR @ May 8, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) I do too. This is the risk of trying to break up the double play, you are just as likely to get hurt as the fielder. You don't want to see anyone get hurt even the opposing guys. We forget sometimes that its just a game.
  17. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 8, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) Playing the matchup game doesn't work if your pitcher walks the guy on 4 pitches. :rolly Sometimes Ozzie playing by his GUT makes mine rumble.
  18. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ May 8, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) I thought you were referring to whatever happened with Pedro. Gotcha though. Sorry about that. I am not posting fast enough to keep up with game action
  19. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ May 8, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) Why and what happened? I was being sarcastic. Remember on a play earlier that Crede got driled on and the ump said he didn't try and get out of the way.
  20. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ May 8, 2005 -> 07:27 PM) I Dustin Hermanson Me likey Jermy. Luv him long time. (But not in that kind of way-not that there's anything wrong with that)
  21. Marte and/or Politte would give the Jays a whole different look at how and what they throw. Koskie is no one to fool with.
