  1. Looks like Marte is going to blow this one. So much for the gut
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) Marte's in now. I don't think I've ever been more confused by a manager's use of his bullpen personnel as I am tonight. Ozzie manages by his GUT, which measn tonight he must have to take a dump.
  3. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) Then why was one made for Crede??? Shouldn't have been one for Joe either. I like Joe and he is now producing big time and I think will continue. We sometimes give up on players way to soon and in some cases eat our young. You are not all wrong on your points nitetrain.
  4. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) He also kept Billy Pierce under wraps in the 59 WS. Lopez was a smart baseball man and a good game day strategist. He was also thin skinned and dictatorial. Still, all in all he did more with less for a longer period of time than any manager in my lifetime. For all his faults he is the best Sox manager in the last half century. Ozzie Guillen on the other hand is a disaster waiting to happen. I wish he would just put a muzzle on it for the rest of the season. Outspoken is one thing. What Ozzie sometimes does is quite another. Luis Aparacio also called him SIR after Looie rejoined the Sox and Lopez was visiting during spring training. It was with reverence and not fear, but Lopez was the man in charge no doubt.
  5. You need to understand the Mendoza line first. It is someone's batting average over the course of the whole season and actually the batting average history of a guys career. Many players get off to bad starts and rebound. Rowand is one of these and in my opinion you are way off base with your characterization. Please retract it and say you are sorry.
  6. Jay M's column might be trash, but in response to Ozzie's comments about Magglio I would have to say he has gone to far. You don't make comments about bleeping someone over, etc. That seems to be threats instead of just livewire springjawing by Ozzie. Not good in my opinion and he needs to apologize. Just carrying on the way Ozzie does is not all that bad though.
  7. I think that we can take some pride in the fact that at this point of the season the Sox are sticking it to not only their opponents, but to these so called baseball analyst experts. Maybe that's what hurts them the most. The team is still not hitting like it can, but they have been pretty decent; we don't have the Big Hurt back yet, but will; and the relief pitching hasn't always been sharp, but has still shown good signs and is improving. I think the team has shown it is a winner and will be there at the end. The Twinkies are a good team and have won in the past with class (I hate saying that though) but they are a different team this year.
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) It's called the "Oh my God please swing and miss this one". So it's the home run ball?
  9. Please don't make fun of Jose Valentin. He is a good player and looks good with that perfectly groomed stash.
  10. Al (The Senor) Lopez and Eddie (The Brat) Stanky. The Brat during 1967 was classic.
  11. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 01:28 AM) Wow!!! Hats off to Jon Garland. The Tigs didn't have a chance tonight. As for the flubbies, let's hope Nomar isn't hurt badly. As much as I loath that club, you never wanna see a guy go down to injury like that. Jon is becoming an ace. He is probably the best #5 pitcher in either league!?
  12. Looks like Paulie went with the pitch too. Opposite field and gets robbed of the RBI chance with a ground rule double
  13. QUOTE(quickman @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 12:12 AM) I agree completely its almost like everyone has a green light. We need to be smart. I just logged on and checked MLB gameday first. 2 caught stealing and one picked off 1st. I was thinking exactly what you guys posted. Who the heck is coaching these runners? I think the Sox have been caught stealing more than succesful.
  14. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 02:00 AM) Put it on the BOARD. He Gawn: I am trying to concentrate on baseball and you have women crawling all over you on your POSTS. I can't handle it...
  15. Now gameday is 2 batters behind. PK homers and Timo singles and I just got them both on the screen. Terrible thing for a Sox fan to have to suffer through. Great job by Paulie though. Maybe another monster year?!
  16. What is the fascination with Timo Perez and Ozzie having him bat 5th in the line up? Everett could play the OF and Gload could DH once in awhile I think. Geez why aren't I the manager?
  17. I am running at least one batter behind everyone else becasue I have to use MLB game day. I take it Stewart is out and Dookie leaves the bases juiced? I see he has given up 10 hits in this game through 6 innings with no runs allowed. Unbelievable, but I think enough is enough. RELIEF PITCHER NEEDED OZZIE!
  18. I think someone has a "gut feeling" that Hernandez will not implode on us
  19. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) Four words for Ozzie, which I guess he still can't translate, SHUT THE f*** UP! Without the use of profanity because it makes me blush: You are right on SS05. Frank Thomas never said a thing in my opinion that went against Ozzie. Ozzie just can't keep his pie hole shut and accept that a 15 plus year vet like the Big Hurt can actually say something like"I want to play ball." Frank is a huge addition to this team hitting wise and leadership wise. I think he showed that last year also. He wants to win. Ozzie doesn't need to be so thin skinned about it and screw things up. I think Frank will be back with a vengance because he wants to be in that line up and not on the DL. Ozzie should be ready to ride the bat of the Big Hurt all the way to the WS.
  20. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 06:05 PM) Is it me or is Timo the slowest player on the sox excluding PK and the catchers and pitchers??? Especially to be leading off for a team so adamant with manufacturing runs. Has Timo done anyting with the bat so far this season. Heck I woulds even like Gload in there at this point.
  21. QUOTE(BridgeportHeather @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) I'll be there once again, this time in Section 107, Row 20. My fearless prediction for the game: Garcia starts trying to "duel" with Buehrle and pitches a gem of his own, allowing 2 runs, 4 hits, walking 3, over 7.2 innings. Good for you Ms. Lee, I think I will be able to watch the game on the Mariner's broadcast over Foxsports Rocky MT. I can ony hope. I have been able to see th first two games of the series on TV yesterday being WGN, which was nice.
  22. I like them both, but Jose should not be the third baseman except to spell the regular. He wasn't that bad of an infielde at SS and has a good bat. He also brought some enthusiasm to the team. I think with the group we have this year Jose would have been in his best form. I like Joe Crede also. Glove wise he is one of the better ones and just needs to relax at the plate and concentrate on what he needs to do to be successful.
