  1. I am just so impressed with Mark though. No matter what the offense does today and you have to hope for a least one run. That may be all we need with MB at Cy Young style. Westbrook has been super too, but I prefer to give credit to MB.
  2. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) Yeah good to see that from Dye. BTW, I f'n hate having Uribe hit 9. I'd hit him 7 I think it goes back to the idea that you have a fast guy hitting 9th and leadoff, but I don't know if I agree with Uribe there either.
  3. I am trying to keep up with MLB Gameday but it is very slow.
  4. Good to see Dye contribute right away. Let's go Sox!
  5. I see that the Tadpole K'd in his first chance. I think he needs to be traded.
  6. There are some real experts at ESPN let me tell you. These are the same guys that can't get names of players straight and seem to think the only teams n baseball are the Yankees and Red Sox. The Giants aren't going to finish in first place in their own division without Barry Bonds and the Twinks aren't an improved club enough at all to be picked higher than 2nd. I am not certain when they have ever been right. Does anyone?
  7. The Sox do seem to concentrate in the 9th and get a run or two so maybe this season will be real interesting in close games when the Sox have that last at bat and need that run.
  8. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) He's 29 for 55. I was going to say that he has hit a ton this spring, but that's like 2000.00 so 650 average sounds more like it.
  9. QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) R. Branyon follows with a forward K. Top of the 9th. Time for a 3 run dinger. That was last year. We are more of a grinder club now.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) I wouldn't put too much stock into what the jag offs at BBTN say. They barely see any of our games or know much about our team. 90% of the people on these boards know more about our team than guys like Brantley do. I don't know how he can say our pitching staff is like "Jekyll and Hyde" when we have made quite a few changes to it and we haven't even played a series in the regular season yet. Anyways, I think our staff will be solid this year and surprise quite a few people. That's what I am banking on too. I think we have heard from time to time how certain pitchers use ST to concentrate of one part of their game plan. Pitch inside, use both sides of the plate, improve on a certain pitch, etc, so I would think you are not going to see season like quality every game, except with Buerhle who I think is a Cy Young type pitcher. I also agree with your analysis of BBTN dudes.
  11. BBTN on Thursday called the Sox pitching staff Jekyll and Hyde quality. You never know what you will get from game to game. I am actually more concerned about the bullpen and I see my friend YASNY thinks that is our strength. I hope so too, but it seems Takatsu, Marte and Politte get nicked every time out. What's up with that?
  12. I know it's Spring Training too, but Garland does have a tendency to give up the 3 run jack too often. I watched the characters on ESPN BBTN Thursday evening and Brantley made the comment about the Sox pitching being Jekyll and Hyde. You never know what you will have from game to game. I hope the so called experts are wrong. It's a long season for sure and I think I am more concerned about the bullpen. Just happy for the season to satrt though and cheer the Sox on hopefully to a winning season.
  13. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) Very surprising. Considering Davis is either still hurt with his ligament problem or recovering. Plus, he's got a $1M salary. Unless he's going to be a starter, that's pretty high for a backup IMHO. As far as Kim, :banghead :banghead :banghead According to redsox.com, he's going to the Rockies. There is a reason they are trading Kim and it's becasue of a loss in velocity=arm problems. We don't need another set up guy especially one with problems.
  14. I have my doubts that Contrears is going to be able to help the Sox this year. One can only hope though that he develops out of ST. Politte throws hard but straight and gets knocked around too easily.
  15. Don't be in such a rush to dump someone like Joe Borchard or even Willie Harris. Borchard still has a lot of upside to him and trading him for a reserve infielder, when we already have two or three that seem to be doing well, is a rip off. Even with Sweeney and Anderson waiting in the wings, but maybe a year or two out, I can see Joe Borchard as a solid #4 OF'er with Rowand as the CF'er. Everett will be here 1 or 2 years more, Dye the same and even if they stay we might need someone to replace Frank Thomas. I fear the Big Hurt will be the next big Sox star to be unceramoniously sent packing. Willie is a battler and I just don't see the IF help at the minor league level to replace him.
  16. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) Here's what I caught so far... LF Pods 2B Iguchi DH Everett 1B Gload CF Rowand RF Timo Gload pops out to LF. Inning over. No score. I see the same problem as last year surfacing. The Sox have a runner in scoring position with less than 2 outs and can't bring him in. This season is shot-it's over-it's done with- I say trade them all.
  17. I wouldn't get a swelled head even if he did read here. I don't think many of us give KW any ideas on how to run a club, maybe how not to run a club, but not on how to do it.
  18. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) I watched the game, and even though those two gave up homers, I thought they looked pretty good, they just kind of hung pitches for the homers, but looked good the rest of the inning.... key was there was no one on base, both solo Thanks for your take on those two pitchers. I haven't had a chance to watch any Sox games this ST. I only remember what some of our relievers did last year. We don't need any bombs given up by the relief corp bases empty or not though. The are supposed to keep the opposition in check.
  19. Just signed on. I am really pleased with Carl Everett this spring and I think Borchard is trying to make his move too. Little worried about our releif staff though. Politte gave up a homer and so did Vizcaino and that was our achile's heal last year.
  20. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) Call me crazy. B-Mac holds his own, KW tries to sell Milwaulkee on the idea of trading Jose Contreras plus half of his remaining salary plus Brian Anderson and another prospect for Ben Sheets. And no I don't think Jose could handle being a closer. We all know what he's like with runners on base. Not a good situation for a closer or a reliever in general. Your crazy!
  21. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) I sent him a scathing email. In my work, I have virtually no margin for error. There's no excuse for this kind of sloppy reporting. I can say in all honesty that the quality of journalism in general has fallen off a cliff in my lifetime. Sports journalism is probably the worst. I have seen some sloppy stuff this year too. Otheryears as well. There wasn't even mention of Tadihito in some baseball books. I think they must start trying to put these books togther in November in order to beat the competition to the newstands.
  22. What I would like to know is, if Diaz was lifted for Adkins was Diaz injured? Adkins has not been sharp this spring.
  23. I don't think a 12th pitcher is that critical early in the season is it? McCarthy sure enough looks like the real thing and I would hope Neal Cotts also moves into a future starting role. We could have two excellent young arms starting along with our other top guys. Buerhle, Garcia, McCarthy, Cotts and one of the others. Garland, El Duque and Contreras need to step up and take charge this year or I can see changes in that pitching staff being inevitable. I wonder if Contreras or Duque end up in the pen?
  24. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 20, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) Gload K's. Inning over. Send Gload to the minors now! He just isn't going to cut it.
