QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 12:58 PM) Hermanson and Vizcaino were such HUGE additions to this team. They are KEY to the Sox chances this season. Dependable veteran bullpen arms are worth their weight in gold. Hermanson and Politte have done the best so far this season. Just have to keep in mind that it is very very early to lose confidence in anyone, but I ahven't been impressed with Shingo, Cotts or Marte. Vicaino has his moments good and bad.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Apr 16, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Looking around both leagues at SP's, few top tier guys are out there that a team could trade for. Yesterday, Sheets and Chris Carpenter signed new deals. For a team in need of a strong starter, this is bad news. Yet with BMac the sox 6th SP, and everybody but Garland locked in for 2006, the sox are in a better position than most teams with playoff hopes. The only guys who could be had via trade would be #4 or #5 type starters. For teams like Boston, the Yankees, Angels, this is all they can hope to get if they need a SP. The other possibility is getting help from the minors, like the Twins. Yet only the top pitching prospects make an impact late in the year. Whatever teams have those top prospects won't be trading them, with the lack of quality arms available. The sox are in a very good spot, having a solid 1-5 and a top prospect waiting in the wings. Hopefully, a few guys from the minors have breakout years as well, to keep the arms a-coming. Stay healthy all. I am more concerned with the bullpen than the starters. You are absolutely right about our strength from 1 to 5 plus BMac in the minors waiting his turn. I have not been impressed thus far with Shingo, Cotts and Marte. However, Hermanson and Politte haven't been bad at all. Hermy actually has shown me the most, but Politte has done almost as well.

The Tadpole POPS UP. Where is the great clutch hitter? Now Valnetin or Lee or Maggs would have smashed that one -

The Duke walks the leadoff man on 4 pitches. He shouldn't have started the inning at all. -

El Dookie needs to be taken out now. He is closing in on 100 pitches and it's only the end of 5. Get someone fresh in there -

QUOTE(juliagoolia @ Apr 14, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) I agree. Wish Baj had the chance to really show what he is made of this spring. He just recieved his first save and is burning it up in AAA. I see a move up in his near future. Keep up the good work Baj I am sorry, but I couldn't wonder how long you had to wait to make your response? Thought this thread was done.

As others have pointed out I wouldn't put much stock in whatever any of these so called experts say. They take a cheap shot at us even when we are 6-2 and in first. You can't get much from these characters anyway when all they can do is write one sentence for a power ranking. I know though it is quite complimentary to get kudos of any type.

Tad I grounds into a DP. It's so reassuring to know that no matter how much things change they stay the same. Let's go bullpen. We want the win! -

I never thought much of Wickman, but on a 3-2 pitch to Rowand he suckered him on that low one out of the strike zone -

You have to really like the way Marte has rebounded out of ST. 3 straight k's is very nice in relief. -
That Ozzie is a genius. That is till he loses one Great job by that Gong guy.
-
Too many pitches was exactly Shingo's problem when he blew that game. Too many and up in the zone and they pounded him.
-
I would have picked Marte to come in also, but I was under a lot of pressure.

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 11, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) I dunno about anyone else.. but these 1 run games are giving me an ulcer.. Me too! I think w need more power hitters and fewer grinders.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 11, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) Rowand out to Boone. One out. EDIT: Do folks still need a play-by-play? Yes, thank you. You are at least one to two batters ahead of what I get on MLB gameday.

I also remember the Guillen comments about not using Shingo vrs the Tribe. If Garcia is out then my guess is that it is Hermy.
