  1. It's Spring Training. They like to have fun in the sun you know. Jon can do the job, and your right to point out that he has a lot of talent. I think he will come around and be ready to start the season.
  2. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 07:05 AM) I didn't know he had a .217 average, he does need more work in the minors, yet again. Nothing wrong with what you said WT. I think Joe B will make the team.
  3. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) With B-Mac pitching the way he is, why don't we trade Garland and Crede, or Contreras and Crede for a decent 3B? Is this really Kenny Williams screwing with us :banghead
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) I find that statement highly unlikely. One bad day at the beginning of ST doesn't ruin a guys chances. Folks, it's way to early to be thinking roster spots, hot players, transactions, etc. ST games have only been underway for 2 weeks. When you get to the last week then you will see how things have shaken out.Right now all you do is relax and soak up the sunshine of AZ. It's fun to see players doing well, especially ones we don't know much about, but right now it's all about letting a lot of folks play, stretch out and get some ideas for the future.
  5. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 12, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) THIS JUST IN...MAGGLIO ATE LUNCH!!! Story developing... What did he have?
  6. I hope all ex-Sox players do well. They gave us there all out best when they were in a Sox uniform. Of course they don't have to do well when they play us mind you. I still wish Jose Valentin was on the Sox team.
  7. I tell you at the end of the regular season!
  8. Just catching up on the game. I am so happy baseball is back even it's just ST.
  9. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 12:36 AM) The only reason I'm even saying this is because last time we had this much hoopla over a pitcher, his name was ... Jon Rauch. Here I thought the second coming of Roger Clemens was emerging from our system, and when he arrived - at a game I attended - he got rocked for about 11 runs in the first inning? I'm not sure the exact run total, as I was probably too drunk by the end of the inning to remember...mostly because I did not want to remember...but whatever it was, it was BAD. unfortunantly I remember that game too and I wasn't drunk, which was also unfortunate
  10. Thank you. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jan 18, 2005--> 10:05 PM) I say Garland is the number 5, and Contreras is #4 but I would start Contreras on the 3rd game of the season because of how well he pitched against the Indians last season, and Orlando "Big Game pitcher" Hernandez should start the first game of the Twins series. Is this really Ozzie Guillen in drag?
  11. I was in the Army during the time Dick Allen was playing for the Sox. I listened all the time to Armed Forces Radio and they used to have the Sox on quite a bit. Those were the days we battled the Oakland A's for the West Division title. Dick Allen was a great player and I thought at the time the trade was made sending Tommy John to the Dodghers for Allen that it was a good deal all the way around. I just wish Dick could have concentrated more on baseball though and stayed around a few more years with the Sox.
  12. QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) Can he still give specimens at his age? Certainly you can. It just takes a little more effort and time and depends a lot on your aim.
  13. All baseball writers are experts in what needs to be done and how to do it. Just ask them and I am sure they will impress you with their expertise on the game. I think they just write about things like this issue with Frank just to stir things up. About a third of the way through the season and his analysis will change.
  14. You know that they say "the third time is a charm." :banghead
  15. TLAK, that was a great story

    Crede

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Feb 5, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) I heard an interview with Greg Walker that said he thought Crede would have an even worse season. Walker said he'd be suprised if Crede hit .200 with 15 hrs. I hope Joe Crede beats you with a baseball bat to show how much improved he is for 2005.
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Feb 3, 2005 -> 01:23 AM) speaking of porn did anyone see Lord of the G-String last week i mean uhhh yeah No, I missed it. Please send me a VHS copy, along with all your other porn, in a plain brown wrapper. Thanks so much!
  18. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Feb 2, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) Was thinking about this the other day, provided they are not traded, where are they going to play? You have Rowand and Dye for atleast 3 years. I guess with Pods, if he has a good year you could deal him. However, he's the type of guy Kenny and Ozzie have been looking for. I guess if they don't re-sign Konerko, one could play 1st base. I understand that this has nothing to do with this season per se, just something I'm curious about.. They will play in the minors probably at least 2 more years.
  19. This is a nonsensical trade idea. Crede has much upside to him and is a solid glove at 3B. We move Uribe to 3B and have no real established infield back up, which is where I see the Sox need being. Valdez is not the answer. Plus Crede has a lot of potential with the bat. Weaver becomes a 6th starter. Why think of trading Garland anyway? Jon has had beter long term credentials than Weaver. Jeff finally came around some last season, but Garland has been consistent with double digit wins. There is no upgrade there at all if this trade is made.
  20. Why do we think we can't or shouldn't keep both Konerko and Thomas? I don't think this is or will be an issue of money. Frank is still a dangerous hitter, one of the best in the game, and so is Konerko. I think this discussion is one we shouldn't even be concerned about. If everything on this team becomes an issue of money we won't have any star players at all because the reasoning would be we can't pay anyone more than major league minimum.
  21. QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) And I'm not impressed with Ray King. Exactly. I saw Ray King pitch at the rookie league level when he first came up with the Reds. The only reason he sticks around is because he is a lefty pitcher.
  22. This is your first post correct? Please don't tell us old timers here that you don't want to check on the past Konerko posts. Welcome to Soxtalk, but we have had ad nauseum topics on this issue. Konerko is staying and should stay as he is a team player, unselfish, wants to win and is a very productive hitter. Thanks!
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 27, 2005 -> 04:32 AM) Magglio totally screwed up when he turned down the Sox offer. Now, he has to save face, so to speak. He's painting himself into a corner here. Magglio is going to have to swallow some pride and hope he doesn't choke on it. Maggs will regret not taking the Sox offer. You can never really predict these things, but I have to doubt that Maggs is going to get the same offer now that he did with the Sox back then.
  24. I just know that our pitchers seem to give up a lot of walks followed by home runs. Maybe they can cut that down and we will win a few more games? Pretty simple analysis. Maybe I can get a job as a baseball analyst/writer?
  25. QUOTE(SoxPhan7 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) Maybe i am missing something, but can some one explain to me why Willie NEEDS to be traded? I think he would be a perfect bench player, someone who could come in for late inning defensive replacement or pinch run and steal a base when neccessary. (i know he cant steal bases but with SPod and Tim Raines training him I am hoping for the best) Or even come in to pinch run for a man on third when a sac fly is needed. Or maybe just maybe get a bunt down in a situation when it is pertenent. i know a lot of that is wishful thinking that he has improved (the stealing and bunting) But it seems like he has to much speed, something you cant teach just to get rid of. And frankly, i dont think there is a huge demand for a Willie Harris right now. But if I am missing something please share. Nick I wondered if I was missing something too> I think Willie has a lot of upside. Remains to be seen just what role the Willie ends up playing for the Sox or if he is traded as some speculate. I do think Willie plays hard and has shown improvement. I am certain though that he won't start. Paying a Japanese player like Tad I. $2.5M a year guarantees he won't be sitting on the bench. Willie can play CF or 2B and pinch run. I don't think he can play SS, but maybe they will try and teach him a bit about that position. We are in need of an IF sub to lay the role Uribe did last year.
