Yes, but then again it might be September 30th when that happens. I just get tired of this stuff that leans towards the "Ozzie factor." I agree we spend our resources on someone with a bit of a future and forget about aging players that Ozzie can have a margarita with after the game. The Big Cat is not needed in Chitown.

A Joe Borchard trade for an over the hill veteran, who was injured, doesn't make sense at all. We need a starting pitcher and a closer and not a player on the down hill side of his career. I think Philly is a good place for him. We have a pretty good OF now and with Maggs gone it gives one of our younger players a chance to move up. It's time we see what these guys are made of anyway. We have heard all the hype now it's time to perform.

What the HELL is the holdup with signing FA's?

Don't insult Wyoming like that please. That's hitting pretty close to home. Your nearly lost your credibility with me. -
If this is the famous and over rated Ozzie factor I am all in favor of canning Ozzie Guillen and KW. Andres Gaggaraglalaga doesn't need to be in Chicago. The guy can't carry PK's jock strap at this point in his career.

My personal feeling on the issue of Roberto Alomar, and Carl Everett too for that matter, is the moves to trade for them again was a mistake and we over paid in prospects for two duds in 2004. I hope we don't make that mistake again. I think Willie Harris and Juan Uribe did just fine and if Willie is our 2B and Uribe at SS we will be ok. Willie had some real good moments last season.

For Anyone Who Though We Could Sign Benitez...

Where was that "Ozzie Factor"? -
I think it could be more like 4th place. Twinkies, Indians, Tigers & Sox. But hey, I don't think we should get excited. I really think these rumors have no basis in reality.

He was a pretty decent starter for about 1/3rd to 1/2 the season , but fell badly. I just don't think he has the arm strength to keep up the demands of a starting pitcher. But, I also think he may still end up an option for the Sox in some role.
-
Kenny has given up a lot of prospects in the last 2 or 3 years and we have nothing to show for it. Last year might have been more frustarting than the others though when we gave up 5 prospects for two retreads and both got hurt for most of the time with the Sox. You don't give up the farm...

I remember some talk about the Sox going after Charles Johnson again. I am not sure though that catching is the #1 priority though. I believe it is pitching. Who was that runner up in the Cy Young voting that we had in 2003 and part of '04? Could it be possible he will be back?
-
Showtime, I think the Ozzie factor may be getting stretched thin. Ozzie was supposed to be the factor in getting Vizquel also, but he went to the Giants instead. It all boils down to agents trying to get the most money for their clients. The Sox ain't got any money and probably won't give what they have to try and get people like Vizquel, etc. Ozzie isn't going to be the main factor in these FA signings or trades.

We do not need to trade pitching for a position player. We supposedly have talent in th minors plus the only position player need I see that is possibly critical is at SS. Maybe we are actually considering Nomar, I don't have a clue on whether it's possible or not, but he wouldn't be bad. I still like Jose Valentin and maybe Jose's price becomes likeable. RF is up for grabs and I think it's time for the $5M bonus baby Borchard to step up or we have several waiting in the wings. Of course everyone likes to dream the Randy Johnson possibility ...
-
I most certainly hope not! Bradley would not bea good fit with this organization, nor do we really need him. I think our needs are a quality starting pitcher and a closer. W can't afford to give up any pitching, such as Garland, for a position player. We are at the point of being able to strengthen our pitching and you don't trade away someone like Garland for a position player you don't need.

KW does quite abit of this type of FA stuff. Signs a lot of lower level people to fill AAA roster spots, but at the same time hopes that there might be a gem out there too.

Both these guys were dissapointing lasr season. However, I liked Diaz over Munoz. It seems every minor league pitcher we have used just tosses the ball over the middle of the plate or walks everyone. Hopefully at least one of them matures as a big league pitcher soon.

Johnson is a strong lefty bat with potential there's no doubt, but he is oft injured. Konerko is not that much older than Nick J. and he's much more a threat with the bat and is established as an all-star caliber player. Plus I doubt that he will really get thrown out at 1B on a hard hit ball to RF as was stated in another post.

I will admit the idea of Jason Kendall being here intrigues me and many others, but realistically can we afford to pay him as I believe his salary is quite inflated. I wouldn't mind seeing Kip Wells back here, but he is really no better than a #4 or #5 pitcher. If we were to get him Contreras would be the #3 starter. Pretty iffy, but it might not be far off from reality. I still like Paulie and don't want to see him go. My guess would be that Carlos Lee would move in any deal for Kendall.

Why bring this up even as a conversation piece? You will get beat unmercilessly for this kind of stuff, and may I add, deserve ever lick you get. Konerko for Dotel? Puhhhhllllleeeeaaaasssssseee!
-
Nick Johnson of reserve player fame? Nick Johnson who was injured for much of the season? Puhh-lleeaassee!

I'd like to see Jose V come back here and play next year with the Sox. What I see us doing is screwing around and ending up with a .180 punch and judy hitter with average defense and saying that we gave him seasoning for a run at it in '06.

Yes they do. And by the way do you have any old issues of the swimming suit editions I could buy? I want to put them with my baseballsand bats! :rolly -
You know, you might have a point there.

We would be defeating the purpose of trading or signing FA's to upgrade. We don't need a defensive liability with a bat. We want better defense not worse. It also seems that every free agent we talk about somehow gets this grinder label. I don't see that either.
