  1. I didn't see Jose do that because I am unable to watch the Sox games except on WGN and rely a lot on MLB game day and the website. But, what I think Jose does is show some fire and confidence. He has now set a personal record for homers in a season. He may be hitting .215, but the guy never gives up and doesn't make excuses.
  2. I am thinking along those same lines about Borchard, Southsider2k4. I am cautiously optimistic about him for next season. I am afraid Maggs wont be back and we will be needing Joe B in RF. He has been looling much better at the plate the last couple weeks.
  3. The Sox as a team have hit over 220 homers, I think around 227 counting today, but maybe more. Do you realize what those totals might be with Hurt and maggs healthy and in the line up every day? Southside hit men redux!
  4. Joe Borchard follows witha homer and he did the same thing. He made Anderson work and waited for his pitch. Looking good today Sox!
  5. Jose with a homer for #29 on the year. That is his career high. I liked that fact he made Anderson work through 7 picthes and he laid off the low one. Congratulations to Jose!
  6. I think that Jon wants to match Mark's performance of last night, which by the way I saw on WGN thank you very much. Does Jon have a complete game this year? He is really looking great.
  7. Jon k's Stairs on a 3-2 pitch fasball high up in the zone. Great job of pitching. We need more of that every game.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 26 2004, 03:17 PM) I rarely see Garland go deep into games QUOTE (Southsiderk24) The guy is almost at 210 IP and has made every turn this year. He is averaging almost 7 IP per start. I agree that Garland is a workhorse and has tons of talent. He needs to put it all together and stay away from basically that one horrendous inning where he gives up a ton of runs. How do they get through to Jon? But, there are enough games he has pitched where he has been just super.
  9. I am impressed with Jon's effort so far. After 6 innings he has thrown less than 60 pitches with about a 2.2 ratio of strikes to balls and given up only the solo homer. I am thinking inspired baseball here. Way to go Jon.
  10. Yes, it does. After all the hype and seeing his great potential surface from time to time, it is very disappointing to see him as a .500 pitcher.
  11. Valdez hits a homer to left and Sx lead 3-1. I didn't know this guy had power! I must admit I am a little amazed but happy as pig in slop.
  12. Logging in just in time to see the Sox ahead 2-0 but then Garland gives up the long ball. I hope this is the extent of his usual meltdown every game.
  13. I think you have said it right. Short and sweet. We should keep both of them. I just don't think it is right thinking that we need to trade our best players in order to fill a hole we think we have. All you do is open up another hole. I think we are forgetting that Maggs will probaly be gone in '05 and if we trade Paulie or Varlos we are opening up another hole that will need to be filled. I believe there are other ways to find the impact players we need and basically that is through the free agent market.
  14. No, you are not the only one with a problem with that scenario. I think we should be leery of paying out a huge price for one guy. Look at the all the free agent signings of big names at big money that have failed to bring a championship of even the wild card spot. Anaheim this year with Guerrero and Colon and I don't think they are going to make it. Texas and the Alex Rodriguez signing for $250M plus several small countries. They trade him to the Yankees and they jump into contention. Look out if they get some strong pitching.
  15. But, you are giving the boot to two players with hitting totals of over 70 homers and 200 RBI's and spending the money on one guy. Plus you are opening up at least one more hole on the team most likely at IB. It is way too early to get into this speculation anyway. I am betting we won't really get an idea where this team is headed in off season dealing until after the team meetings after the regular season is over. I still think the pitching is the achilles heel of this team regardless of what is being said by the brass. There was an article in the Tribune, I believe, that made some good points on the disappointing pitching stats of this team.
  16. He needs to improve no doubt about it.
  17. Qwerty my friend, please give up on the Konerko trade stuff. If it happens KW is certifiably crazy and should be committed. Gload can't replace Paulie, but can fill the role of reserve quite well.
  18. Games like this shows Crede's potential. I have always thougt we should keep him. Way to go Joe Crede!
  19. Why is Mariotti writing the obvious? We know that and I am sure so does KW.
  20. It is too early. He mad an error in the 1st inning on Thursday and the Royals got an unearned run out of it. I think we should trade him since that is the knock on Jose V. Jose has 27 homers and Valdez has singles and one double. Defensively I just haven't seen anything.
  21. Well said Jeckle. You don't tear the team apart because they ain't the winner. You fine tune.
  22. It's hard to believe we have tied at 6-6. The Sox have grounded into 3 DP's, had two thrown out trying to steal and one at home plate. At least the offense is battling.
  23. The Sox pitcherss sure like that "long ball," they give up enough of them for sure.
  24. Agreed! Uribe has been a pleasant surprise based even on '04 numbers.
  25. Chacon with an ERA near 7? You want a closer not gasoline alley. Julio is a maybe though.
