  1. Do we really need to fire our manager? How many more managers are out there that have the fire and in your face approach that Lou Piniella has? Most of the good ones I have seen might get fired up, but for the most part have players who can make adjustments during the game to win and the manager calls the shots with who he has available. If you have to motivate a player or players by the point of a boot then I think it's time to dump the whole bunch and start over again. Right now this group seems to be more worried about whether they are going to the all-star game or the Cardinals, and how many homers they can hit, etc. I think this road trip to TB and Det has been a new low for the Sox in a season of lows. If we lose at Cleveland look out.
  2. I can only assume that Daubach hit the ball hard into the DP? The Sox have sunk to a new low this season.
  3. Inning started out bad when manuel pinchhits for a weak hitter with a weaker hitter. Harris tried his bunt tactic again and fails again. Vanetin is the only one going the the way and doubles. Olivo gets a single and I have to assume it must have been a good play to keep it in the infield. Alomar almost GIDP around the horn and Lee shows his hitting talent by laying catch with the pitcher and on the 1st pitch might I add. So typical...
  4. Loaiza is pitching his heart out. It's a great effort. 7 innings, 6 hits allowed, no walks and 6 K's. The only run is that two-out score in the 1st. I just hope it's not a wasted effort
  5. Another fly out to end the inning. The Sox are on fire now.
  6. I think the Sox got a good swing on Cornejo finally. Ordonez hit looks like it went about 30 feet.
  7. I think the highlights are is that it is Thursday and the lowlights are the Sox showed up for the game & we have to watch them play like a little league team
  8. The problem with Lee is he hit that 1st inning homer yesterday and that will ruin him for at least 4-5 games.
  9. Lee is showing us his abilities today...
  10. I see that Alomas has joined the team in a big way now. GIDP! I thought this guy knew how to bunt?
  11. I agree. Loaiza is a great pitcher and deserves so much more than what this offense has been showing. But the same goes for Buerhle, Garland and Colon. It has been this way all season long...
  12. Loaiza and Buerhle should be allowed to go if they want to. No self respecting ballplayer would want to be a part of what is becoming a second division team.
  13. I have to follow on game day and it kills me waiting to see what happens. I just have to assume from what the Sox are doing is that it is just another pathetic slide by our offense. Look at the Tigers lineup and their BA's. Can you believe they have people hitting higher than our so called bombers? Cornejo has beaten this team before and lost once, but I think the Tigers feel they can beat us anytime.
  14. I want to think Loaiza still has some fire left in him. He has pitched well, but has been giving up 3 runs a game versus 0-1 a game so the Sox offense is showing glaringly how poor they are in clutch situations. It's bad to give up that 2-out run to the Tigers in the 1st and know that our team can't do the same.
  15. Ahhh the rancid smell of the Sox offense shows its soles today. Thomas GIDP (he's cold as ice the last few games), Lee swinging away for the fences again and can't get the ball 60 feet from home plate. I have a bad feeling here...
  16. Lyle Mouton and Aaron Myette. The ESPN Classic Baseball game that aired last week from 1997 Orioles-Sox game featured Lyle. He had 3 or 4 hits that game and his hit in the 10th won the game. He had the tools I think, but never really put it together. Myette was another one of those Sox potentials from the minors that just never blossomed.

    colon

No question that Colon has not been as consistent this yerar, but he has still pitched well for the most part. He has been simply superb in a number of games, but has given up lots of walks and some homeruns in other games. I don't see the dominance he has shown in past years, but as I said for the most part he has pitched well enough to win more games than his record indicates. The biggest dissapointment is our offense. Too many DH's, as said before, so we have no speed, hitters that overswing, hitters with no patience and hitters refusing to go to the opposite field for hits. Everyone wants to be the hero and hit the homer. Back to Bartolo, I believe his six wins through mid-season is still more than Ritchie had for the entire season.
  18. Nothing is wrong with Paul Konerko's hips, Jerry Manuel won't be fired, Kenny Williams is still the General Manager, etc...

    Olivo

I think the Sox are committed to keeping Olivo as the #1 cathcer. he can field but can't hit that's for sure, but I am afraid we may have to put up with a .200 average for this year and hope he learns how to hit something other than a mediocre fastball
  20. I am still under the assumption that the night game is on WGN? I would love to have both games broadcast, but we can't be so lucky can we?
  21. It's true that Gammons puts out information on possible deals that never happen. However, that's his job-put out information-and all baseball fans want to hear the rumors out there. Gammons reports what he hears and sometimes he is right. I am sure there are tons of trade ideas passed around GM to GM and most of them don't pan out. He is a Red Sox supporter no doubt, but all in all I think his reporting is pretty even. I like listening to what's up in the majors and have a harder time putting up with Harold Reynolds and Bobby Valentine and their happy babbling back and forth than I do Gammons.
  22. I could say more than one thing about when the Sox will win their next pennant: I think at the rate we are going this year that it will be next year I was thinking about "When hell freezes over," but I hear there is acold front moving in.
  23. I tend to agree. If the Mother-of-all-Trades was going to happen I think it would be reorted on more in depth by the Chitown press and the likes of ESPN. However, just talking about Giles now, the Sox have had interest in him for a long time. We tried to get him when we got Ritchie in the trade last year. He is an aggressive hitter and I think an excellent fielder. He made the BBTN highlights with an absolute remarkable catch in left field where he was in the air facing into the stands and reached in to catch a ball and take a homer away.
  24. Here's what I have to say about all the recent rumors and speculation: Paul Konerko's hips are in good shape, Jerry Manuel isn't getting fired, Kenny Willaims is the General Manager and Magglio Ordonez won't get traded.
