White Sox vs Dodgers 1st Spring Training Game
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 28, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Beckham's stance is quieter... yes...it is. Nice result too.

Bobby Jenks to the Red Sox
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) I'd follow the same rule for anyone from the 2005 team. First time out, he gets a standing ovation. Every time after that, he's the guy we're trying to beat. I hope the crowd gives him... *crickets* Honestly...this thing got way out of control...and Dad had to step in and say something.

White Sox vs Dodgers 1st Spring Training Game
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 12:08 PM) Your wish is Ozzie's command. He just swapped Dunn into the 3rd hole, and Rios down to #5.

White Sox vs Dodgers 1st Spring Training Game
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Feb 27, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) Still not liking Rios in the 3 hole. Me neither...much rather have Paulie in the 3 hole than Rios.

Bobby Jenks to the Red Sox
Maybe Bobby should just shut his mouth and take the high road and leave it at that. If he fails miserably in Boston, he's really setting himself up.

2011 College Baseball Thread
Terrible, terrible accident/injury at ASU game this weekend. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/asu/articl...ahn-injury.html From what I've heard...he has no feeling below the waist right now. This is why I'm not an advocate of the headfirst slide. Prayers go out to this young man and his family for a full recovery.

Miggy Cabrera DUI
QUOTE (Bonderman38 @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 01:13 PM) I personally don't see that much coming out of it. It'll blow over in a few weeks, and I love having Cabrera on the Tigers. I wouldn't trade him for anyone. yes...and Hoosier fans said the same thing about Sampson a few years back. We'll see...

Who is the best player on the Sox right now?
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 12, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) The question is too vague. So I decided to break it down into categories. * John Danks- Best Starting Pitcher. He is the most consistent SP on the staff and eats up a lot of innings. He is extremely valuable to the rotation. * Alex Rios- Best all-around player. When it comes to tools, Alex has it all. He can hit for power, steel bases and cover a lot of ground out in CF. Its extremely refeshing to not have to worry about who will fill that CF void. * Paul Konerko- Best Slugger. This guy can work the counts and can be a major run producer. He is the KING of the Southside and im very happy they brought him back. * Alexei Ramirez- Best Defender. This guy is fun to watch. Watching him getting better and better with the glove each year has been a sight to see. I'm predicting GOLD GLOVE in 2011 * Matt Thorton- Best Reliever. This guy has been our most consistent reliever for the past 5 seasons! He comes in and gets the job done. We may even see him in some closing situations in 2011. * Gordon Beckham & Chris Sale- Most Promising. If these guys can live up to their potential in 2011. I think we can do a lot of damage in the central. * Adam Dunn- Best Addition. We lacked left handed power last year and a true DH. KW filled that hole with the signing of Adam Dunn. His career .381 OPB and 100+ RBIs is going to give our offense a major booster. * Carlos Quentin- Sleeping Giant. I know he has dissappointed us the past few seasons. However, now the pressure is off of him to be that main run producer, i think he will have a respectable season and play average defense. If we 75% of his production from 2008- that would be a HUGE lifter for this club. * Ramon Castro- Under rated. He is one of my favorites on the team. He comes in to spell AJ- can give you a big hit when you need and calls a great game! Gotta give some love to my boy Ramon!! I know these are just opinions- but it was fun to break it down like this. By doing so- it got me pretty excited for baseball and the start of 2011. The White Sox Are ALL IN and I cant wait! Great analysis...and I agree. Hard to say who "the best" player is. MVP: Paulie. Most Talented to me has to be either Alex or Lexi.

Chuck Tanner dies at 81
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 04:50 PM) Man, you aren't kidding about a breath of fresh air after those two seasons. I was in my early 20's when Tanner became manager and I went to more games in the Chuck Tanner-Dick Allen era than any other Sox era. It was an exciting time to be a White Sox fan. RIP Chuck. I hear ya Ed...that '72 team was probably one of my all-time favorite teams. I remember going to a crapload of games during that era (I was 12 at the time). Dick Allen, Melton, Carlos May, Wilbur, Terry Forster, Goose Gossage, No Neck Williams...lead by Chuck Tanner. People can bag on Dick Allen all they want...but he was damn fun to watch play ball. RIP Chuck Tanner.

Twins could be looking to deal Liriano
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 09:59 AM) What's really going to decide if they can keep him or not is if they can keep packing their brand new stadium. If that stadium stays packed like last year (possibly because they stay winning) then a gigantic payroll, $120 million even, is certainly possible. If that big attendance boost they got from the stadium drifts away, they might not be able to handle their current payroll level. Frankly, I don't know that anyone has a good prediction for how that's going to turn out. There are so many variables. Supposedly a great park, but not in the biggest area. Supposedly the fans love the idea of cold weather baseball...but do they really love it or do they just like to brag and go to one cold weather game a year. What happens if they get a series of snowy years in a row and lose a full series? What happens if they have a legitimately down year and don't compete, how much does that eat into their fanbase? One thing that definitely swayed in their favor last season attendance-wise was the unseasonable warm temps and fair weather they had from April thru September/October. Quite the anomaly IMO. Let's see how many fans show up in 35-40 degree crappy weather in April and September.

2011 Spring Training thread
ok...I am SOOOO ready to get this season started. I can't even remember how many times I heard this yesterday... but I spent the entire day/Super Bowl opening my longnecks yesterday with my official White Sox bottle opener that does this when it touches metal (actual recording): http://toofiles.com/en/oip/audios/mp3/memo.html

Gotta give the O's an "A" for effort...
Catcher: Matt Wieters First Base: Derrek Lee Second Base: Brian Roberts Third Base: Mark Reynolds Shortstop: J.J. Hardy/Cesar Izturis Left Field: Luke Scott/Felix Pie Center Field: Adam Jones Right Field:Nick Markakis Designated Hitter: Vlad Not a bad lineup if they get production from some underacheivers like Hardy. They may be a team that scores a ton of runs...but they'll need to. Not a good rotation at all. They HAVE to go after one of the remaining FA starters like Bonderman, Millwood or even take a flyer on Sheets.

Gotta give the O's an "A" for effort...
They sign Vlad for 8M. Sign Derrek Lee, Kevin Greg and trade for Mark Reynolds. Good for them for at least trying...too bad their pitching staff is horrendous.

Ozzie's recent comments
Joe West is an egotistical douche nozzle and I'd say probably 95% of the other umpires would agree with that. How he's president of the union is beyond me...

The Jermaine Dye Saga...
QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) Solution seems simple to me. Sign a minor league contract that allows him to walk if he doesn't make the team by the end of spring training. If he's not willing to do a deal like that, then he should just buy a damn rocking chair and get it over with. This. Really seems like a no-brainer to me too scenario. Gotta prove you've still got it.

QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 07:38 AM) Here is a link to the Westgate City Center, in Glendale by Jobing.com arena. Westgate City Center Actually there are some other good places too off of Northern and the 101...just to the west of the 101. Westgate is ok...but kind of overrated IMO. But if you're on the west side of the Valley why on earth would you drive all the way out to Chandler for a burger?!? Blue Burger Grille on Northern is probably a better burger too and you don't have to drive to BF Egypt.

Bartolo Colon signs with Yankees
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 26, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) This is clearly something better left off in the MLB discussion thread. Not to be a buttinski...but that was merged into Pale Hose Talk a while back...unless I'm a complete idiot and missed something. It'll go back to normal here in a while. Chill dude...
