  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) We're...uh...we're not good at building on momentum. How many times this year have we said, "that win is going to spark the team," or something like that? I keep going back to that thought....
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:17 PM) This is not a good lineup we have to face him tonight. Not much else you can do. My biggest problem is seeing Cintron batting right handed.
  3. Oh for Christ sakes.....making Johnson look WAAAAY better than he is any more.
  4. QUOTE(BFirebird @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:11 PM) Inge homered...3-2 Tiggers over Twinkies in the bottom of the 7th. That's why the Tigers have been so successful this year (besides good pitching)...their lower half of the order has really come through for them.
  5. I smell some runs this inning.
  6. Pitching Bernie outside and Cintron playing him up the middle?!?
  7. Offense does look week....next time around though. Johnson doesn't throw that hard anymore. BA looks like he's swingin' for the fences too much lately also.
  8. Buck Martinez isn't the most pleasant voice to listen to...but he's pretty knowledgable and relays good info. btw....I thought the yankmes had a no facial hair policy?!?
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) Dear lord I hope this is a misquote. http://www.suntimes.com/output/mariotti/cst-spt-jay08.html You almost have to consider the source on this. Plus...if it has come to the point where Ozzie is referring to himself in the third person context....that's a little disturbing.
  10. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 12:38 AM) Most catchers (especially experienced ones) in baseball do that. They'll flash the signal for the pitch then wait for the pitcher to start his windup before moving to the location of the pitch. It's just a way for the catcher to keep the batter from peaking at him to catch the loacation of the pitch. AJ has done it his entire career as has Sandy Alomar, it's something that's very prevalent in the game today. Gee...thanks for the tip Kal. I know many catchers do it...but not to the extent AJ's been doing it. I'm not saying setting up somewhere...it's the constant movement, motion and not really setting or establishing a target at all. Like I said...tonight he didn't do it very often...but earlier (watch some tapes) it was WAY too much movement and motion...an instant before the pitch is thrown.
  11. Not sure if this has been talked about or mentioned by anybody...and I didn't notice so much tonight as much in the past few months...but one thing he does that, as a pitcher drives me nuts...he flashes his signals and for the longest time...the guy never really flashes a target or becomes set until the pitcher is just about ready to deliver....DRIVES ME NUTS. Like I said...I noticed he didn't do it too much tonight...maybe somebody said something to him...but it's something that's gone on for a lot of the season. Being a pitcher...I don't my guy movin' around too much back there. Maybe it doesn't bother some guys...but from my experience it sucks and it's something I'd get on a youngster's ass about. Again...maybe somebody's covered this already...
  12. I honestly think this game is gonna be a springboard for this team given the playoff atmosphere and all and how absolutley HUGE it was to come back tonight. I'd be shocked if they didn't go on a tear here.
  13. HELL YES....I JUST BROKE MY CEILING FAN BLADE EXPLODING OFF MY LUCKY CHAIR!!!
  14. I'm so sick of these goddamn umps.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) Jenks fastball down to 92 mph this inning. Hope you're not going by the tv gun.
  16. QUOTE(G&T @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Extended outing by Jenks? Should be interesting. Already threw 2 so he was shot for tomorrow anyway...why not.
  17. Whoever called a BA walkoff earlier....HERE IT COMES!!!!!
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 09:31 PM) Lets keep throwing 0-2 fastballs right down the plate. AJP is really letting me down with his pitch calling. Seriously. The dude just looks lazy back there this year.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) Yeah...I see absolutely nothing wrong with what you posted in that. The people that didn't have some type of superstition were probably the people who went to bed after the 11th inning of Game 3. Ya know...I'm very big on the superstitions and game to game rituals....the "how was I feeling"..."what was my mental frame of mind"....not so much as a fan...but when I played and still do play (not as much anymore). But one thing I've been thinking about...I know everybody says '05 is in the past...Ozzie tells his guys to put it behind them. But I keep thinkin...if I was PK...or MB...or anybody on the staff...wouldn't right now be a good time to pop in the playoff/WS DVD when I got home for some of those guys?!? Kind of rekindle some fire...the mental feeling...something...kind of like after you watch a Rocky movie you wanna kick the s*** outta something. I'd try anything at this point.
  20. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) Oh I understand pitching is our #1 problem--no argument here. Let's clearify....STARTING pitching is the problem. But also...knowing when to go to the bullpen...BIGGER problem IMO. There's NO REASON that going into the 6th or 7th inning...you can't really on Cotts, Mac, Riske, Thornton, BMac...to get to the 9th or even close it out. Cripes sakes....last night was the prime example. Ozzie needs to quit being so stubborn...you have a bullpen for a reason. Scoscia know how to use his. Clutch hitting has been a problem too...right up there with the SP. I don't think you could get a greased BB through Paulies ass right now either. I know all these topics are our "Dead Horse"...but I'm actually open to the suggestion of moving JD to the 3 hole and slide everybody down...and Milkman's idea of playing Mack over Pods more. And one more....have a seat for a bit Gooch...Pablo at 2nd...then watch Tad come back on a tear. Above all....USE THE DAMN BULLPEN OZZIE!!!!
  21. Even the ESPN guys made mention of this. Pods...who knows what his problem is...too much Dergen?!? (if there is such a thing). Gooch...seems like he needs Ozzie to crawl up his ass again over something...it always seems to bring him to life for some reason. As for the bottom of the order...I've recalled several opportunities when they got on to bring up the top of the order...only to have Pods and Gooch fizzle it out in a heartbeat. Who knows what goes on in the clubhouse. Seems everybody is really pressing right now and like Milkman says..doesn't seem to be much heart or passion. Is Ozzie tense now and everybody can read it? Hell...next rain delay...let Mark slide on the tarp...let Joe grow his friggin hair out...this team needs to relax.
  22. Since everybody on god's green earth can see Ozzie's pitfalls using the pitching staff...what are the odds KW has a closed door with Ozzie and tell's him he needs to start handling his staff a little better.
  23. QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 7, 2006 -> 08:40 PM) That is an incredibly difficult catch to make, no chance in hell Pods' could catch it. For someone with supposedly incredible speed...he sure is late to a crapload of balls hit.
  24. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 01:50 PM) Unless detroit stumbles, Sox have to completely dominate the tigers to have a chance for the division, and that's a tall, tall task. Word. HUGE series coming up and we MUST dominate these guys to have a chance. On a side note. That lead wouldn't be a big (or would have helped in the wildcard race) if Cleveland had ANYBODY worth a spiff in their bullpen....ANYBODY. How many goddamn late inning leads have they given up the last week. I swear....I hate that goddamn team more than anybody right now. There's your preseason #1 from ESPN people.....WORTHLESS!
  25. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 5, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) One game does not a season (or career) make. No...but it could turn the corner for him confidence wise. Nice outing Javy!
