Has this team quit?
I still believe the season is far from over...but what I see from these guys isn't what I'd call quit...they just seem to be really beat down, tired and somewhat unenthused. Primarily from the roller coaster ride that's gone on for well over a year...plus every single team has put a target on their back (ask the Yankees). Don't get me wrong...I'm not making excuses for them. But they just seem to be tired of the rat race so to speak. Is it their job to play well and win...absolutely. But tell me none of you have just been so friggin sick of your job and all the bs that surrounds it at times...you just need a break. I know it sounds crappy when professional athletes fall into this category...but it's really the only thing I can think of going on with these guys right now. Probably THE MOST frustrating season I've ever spent watching any of my teams. I'd like to say "chin up"...and hopefully these guys will pull up their jock straps and get going. But it's getting down to the nitty gritty and time to nut up.

White Sox Call Up Four
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) Logan might be a better option than Cotts right now. Amen to that! I have about as much faith in Cotts right now as towards the end of Cliffy's time.

Small ball myth
I like it also when Ozzie uses himself in the third person sense. Ya think. Ok...just what is "Ozzie Ball" What the definition for it? "I think Ozzie Ball doesn't show up this year," manager Ozzie Guillen quipped after the Sox reached the 200 mark on A.J. Pierzynski's two-run homer in the sixth. Is it: 1. Leaving your starting pitchers in too long 2. Using inept center fielders for the sake of "matchups" when you have a future Gold Glover on the bench...thus costing your team a number of runs. 3. Keeping an unproductive leadoff hitter in the lineup on a consistant basis because he "used to be" a basestealing threat. Problem is...he can't get on. 4. Having the theory of bunting runners into scoring position...when there's not one goddamn person on the team who can bunt worth a crap....hmmmm. 5. Finally realizing in the last month of the season who should be your #3 hitter

And that's a White Sox loser
QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) but if we can just take 2-3 the rest of the way i am fine with that, whether we make the playoffs or not. Way to set the bar high.

And that's a White Sox loser
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) PK said in the paper he doesn't like to DH, as he gets fatigued from swinging so much in between innings. Since he's a vastly superior defensive player to Gload, we need to keep him on the field. That has got to be one of THE DUMBEST-ASS things I've ever heard! "Hey doc...it hurts when I do this. Doc: "Well don't do that dumbass!..." Konerko is ONLY effective when he uses the entire field. You see glimmers of hope with him this year like when he took a Rivera cutter to right for a homer in the 9th. But like a bunch of you have said...everything is trying to be pulled.

**8/26 Game Thread! SOX vs. twins
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) I've said this about Contreras for two months now. His best pitch is the forkball. Which is pretty unhittable most of the time. I really don't understand either why he doesn't stick with that pitch much more than he does.

The Ozzie Guillen Battleground Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) Lets see....in the biggest game of our season, we bring in Neal Cotts to face a very good lefty. Cotts can't get any lefties out right now. Predictably, two pitches later, there's a hit. Then, we bring in our 4th best righty out of the pen, and the guy is notorious for being terrible in clutch situations. One pitch later, and we're trailing. Then, with two guys on in the bottom of the inning, we let one of the worst starting players in baseball hit against a tough lefty. Predictably, he hits a weak grounder to 1B. Neal Cotts can't get ANYBODY out right now. And the excuse I read this week to continously trot him out there to "get out of his rut" completely pisses my off. Get out of your rut in Charlotte. Right now I can't even begin to describe who I'm more pissed off at this season...Neal Cotts or Ozzie. GODDAMMIT!

8/25 Game Thread Sox vs. Twins
QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Don't worry. The one constant on this site is that if the Sox lose, it will be Ozzie's fault. Do you even watch these games?!?

I have an idea to help Sox starting pitching

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
A little factoid I saw on ESPN... Over the last two seasons, Garland leads the AL with 33 wins. Who'd a thunk it?

Sox @ Detroit
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) It just baffles me how little enthusiasm and energy they have out there. That's what pisses me off most! Getting beat is one thing...but to just go through the motions and really show little emotion or character...inexcusable. That is what I miss most about ARow!

Hilarious! Red Sox Boards.
One of my favorites was a discussion about still being in the race for the WC with a lot of baseball yet to be played...and someone replied: "Did people on the Titanic say...'Hey...at least we get to hear the band play longer...'".

Can the Sox and Minny both go to the playoffs?
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 04:47 PM) We have 2 guys in our rotation that fit that bill. And they are both healthy . Touche'

Can the Sox and Minny both go to the playoffs?
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Radke has been one of the best pitchers in baseball since the end of May. Like I said...I don't know how he's gotten by with a torn rotator cuff and all. His fastball tops out at what...85 now. He rely's strictly on location of a curveball, his 85 mph fastball and changeups that range from 75 to 80mph...that and cortisone.

Can the Sox and Minny both go to the playoffs?
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 04:13 PM) Liriano and Verlander are also big pieces of that puzzle, and God only knows what each of them will be able to bring to the table the rest of the year. Liriano is the big if. If he comes back...MAYBE. If not the only good SP the Twins have is Johan. How they've gotten by with Silva, Boofer and Radke's batting practice tosses is beyond me.

A plea to White Sox fans
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) FWIW....losses this year are a hell of a lot easier to get over than they were last year. The one thing that has really caused the outpour of frustration for Sox fans this year is that the expectations for this season were incredibly high. There was no way we were going to match the magic last season's team had, even with the bolstered roster. I say this often, but the more things happen this year, the more I appreciate how everything fell into place last season. Big time! I'm still not living in last year's glory. I have high expectations every year. One thing I do hate is how wins and losses effect my ENTIRE day until the next game. I know it's just a game and all...but damn! I still love these guys though. One thing I don't want...I really don't want to be like every other Bears fan (which I am)...and reflect back on greatness 20 years ago! That team SHOULD have one at least another Super Bowl...as I feel this team COULD very easily win another WS. Expectations are high...and that's a good thing. This franchise has come a long way IMO.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 14, 2006 -> 12:17 PM) Konerko says it would only be natural after two big series like they just had. Goddammit!...I hate hearing people say crap like this. I remember last time he said this (can't remember what series it was exactly)....but the sox promptly went out and laid an egg against a bad team. It's as if almost conceding going out and taking it easy and don't expect a W.
