  1. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 26, 2007 -> 07:20 PM) That about sums it up for me. Opening Day is a week away and I'm not nearly as excited about usual. I remember having that feeling about 2 years ago. Have some faith! Not a good injury to get...but at least it wasn't to a starter. The sky's not falling yet.
  2. Pretty much. I was talking to a Ranger fan at a game this past week who was still livid about it. Feels like they were fed a crock of s*** in terms of McCarthy. All I said was.."yup".
  3. And my man-crush personal favorite grinder in CF for the DBacks!
  4. QUOTE(bkmoney @ Mar 23, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) If it all works out I only wish we could have gotten the same return from the mccarthy deal as the freddy garcia deal, but oh well. I think you got that backwards.
  5. Good! He has earned it. I'm not concerned about pushing him out there too soon. I like the kids makeup and he realizes he'll take his lumps at times starting out. Hopefully the fans will realize this and cut him a little slack. I like having 2 lefties in the rotation as well.
  6. My money is on that Tracey will face the Sox at some point this season and the first batter he faces he drills. Then turns to Ozzie with a huge grin.
  7. Only way I want Leiber anywhere near The Cell is if he's walking towards the mound from the other dugout. The guy blows! How could you possibly think of trading Thornton or Mac?...especially with Jenks being a big question mark right now.
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) Christ. The other grinder. If we had him, Erstad, and Rowand on the same team we might go 162-0 173-0!
  9. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 05:01 PM) The Diamondbacks should really be looking at Boone. For who? I'd give them Boone and Pods for Byrnes.
  10. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 04:55 PM) I'd prefer Boone in the pen and Sisco being stretched in AAA, but I think that's best for the longterm. If Sisco is the better option for our team to win, so be it. Big time agree with that. Boone looks good right now.
  11. I still like the trade. A 2 for 1...plus I never really believed in McCarthy. I guess time will tell. On a side note...I'm still not thrilled about the Freddy trade...but again...if Gio turns out as a solid contributor it'll pan out. Floyd...not real thrilled about.
  12. How quickly everybody forgets Rowand "aka: Automatic OUT in the WS" and thinks he'll come back to save the South Side from Evil and Tyrrany. Maybe we can just bring him back as a cheerleader.
  13. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Mar 12, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) What era is that from? Early 70s? Yup.
  14. Looks itchy. I'm still partial to these (but still like current best):
  15. QUOTE(soxfan3530 @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) 1. I think the most improved or suprising player will be buehrle. This is simply based on last year, but i think buehrle will return to form and give us a great year. 2. Most disappointing, Jim Thome. While i think he will have a decent year, he showed signs of his age down the stretch last year. I also worry he will be forced to sit a lot this year, possibly with injuries. 3. This may sound cliche but remembering how to execute all the small things will be the sox X-factor. Bunting, advancing the runner, getting sac flys. Playing "Ozzie Ball" or smart ball or whatever, while it sounds dumb and obvious was one of the main reasons the sox did not make the playoffs last year and will be a crucial aspect to their success this season. Good answers and agree with all. Definately see No. 2. I don't think I've heard his name mentioned one time this spring. We'll see how many people say JD after his monster year also. And I don't think it's an indication the JD declines...just how great a year he had last year.

I know Floyd hasn't proven crap yet...but the person on the staff that I always point back to is Thornton. The guy was supposed to be pretty much a wash up. I don't know whether it was Coop or just a change of scenery...but I probably have more confidence in this dude coming out of the pen as anybody on the staff. I say let's wait and see before we burn Floyd at the stake for being an overrated heaping pile of rat s***.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 06:08 AM) Sisco shouldn't sniff Chicago yet. Hopefully he will get to go to Charlotte as a starter, and get the learning in that he was never able to buried in the KC pen. Exactly. I'd hate to even hear his name unless it's about AAA. I still think it will be Floyd also...with Danks possibly getting some time come August. I gotta say...I haven't been as enthused about the Sox bullpen in...well...never. And count me out of the "Rue the Day We Traded McCarthy" group. He's gone. I have a hard time fathoming (no pun) that 70 baseball people would ALL mention McCarthy as breakout. What a bunch of lemmings. Probably one of those questions asked that nobody was prepared for or really gave a crap about. One person said McCarthy....so it was an easy brainless answer to go with. Personally...I'd be surprised if it did. But either way.......
  18. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Feb 26, 2007 -> 01:40 AM) Anyway, the point is probably moot, since I'm pretty sure the CF combo will be Erstad and Terrero. Right. And who's playing left? Hey...I can see Erstad staring...but not in center. Pods will not be healthy for a good month and a half (which doesn't break my heart really). But let's see how ST plays out before we start annointing people.
  19. QUOTE(FLsouthsider @ Feb 18, 2007 -> 03:31 PM) As a side note, I was at the U.S. vs. Mexico soccer match in Glendale a few weeks ago. It took longer to drive from Sky Harbor to Glendale than it did to drive from Tucson to Sky Harbor. So be careful what you wish for, Sox fans. No way. I drove down this weekend to Tucson and I live in Glendale. Not a whole lot going on right now down there. It was fun though. Ate at Curruso's downtown. Didn't run into any construction...but my girlfriend is from Tucson so knew some shortcuts. Sucked though because there was so much crap going on one there, (Tucson Rodeo and a ton of soccer and softball tourneys). It was a b**** finding a room. If it took you longer to drive from Sky Harbor to Glendale...you must have gone very much out of your way or got lost. No way that happens...unless you hit rush hour and drove completely in the "rush". Get your map out and avoid I-10 westbound during rush hour. And for you dudes hitting Surprise...I'll make my annual "Stay off of Bell Rd at all cost" rant. Dunlap/Olive west to Litchfield or so and go up. Any of you guys want some shortycuts (believe me...I'm the king of shorty cuts out here because I HATE traffic)..PM me.
  20. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 19, 2007 -> 05:04 PM) Exactly. I doubt that Smardzija could get an $8 milllion contract from an NFL team, even if he went in the first round. And even if he did, there's no guarantee that he'd see anything more than his signing bonus. Exactly. Which is why it was a smart move on his part. Not sure how smart for the Cubs...but for him personally...I good move. I highly doubt he'd be a first round pick in the NFL. Football-wise he reminds me of Farmer out of UCLA a few years back...and how'd his NFL career turn out?
  21. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Jan 13, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) It looks like KW is filling our minor league system with pitching prospects. I hope Lujan develops in time. Which is pretty smart IMO. Puts them in a position to deal in the future from strength with a position coveted most by major league teams. I'm not saying all these guys will pan out...but you've got to like the upside and talent that's being assembled with the arms in the system.
  22. Rumor has it they signed him to get their hands on the infamous WS final out baseball...that he supposedly did a switcharoo with and still has in his possession, and have no plans on using him on the field. Steinbrenner will then hold the ball hostage, thus crippling the hopes and spirits of Sons of Sam Horn even deeper and continuing his evil stranglehold on all of Bosoxdom. Of course...I started that rumor...
  23. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jan 11, 2007 -> 01:38 AM) Worst- The entire 1983 playoffs. I've never seen a team look so good during the season and so bad during the playoffs to follow. Our offense couldn't score. We won game one by the score of 2-1 I think, then dropped three in a row. We might have even out hit the Orioles in two of those agmes, but could NOT get a runner across the plate. Gotta go with this one as worst also. I can't remember ever feeling so completely "abandoned" by a team that clearly should have won it all that year. Complete choke job. I remember too the next spring training after that year of not really caring at all after that playoff debacle. Best-gotta show my age here and say in '72 when Dick Allen came off the bench in game 2 of a doubleheader with the Yanks and hit a pinch hit, 2-out, 3-run homer off off Sparky Lyle into a stiff wind to complete the sweep. I was at that game...the place went nuts.
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 12, 2007 -> 07:07 PM) We have a backup for the next couple years and a starter for a couple years. Chris Stewart was never going to be a starter and as such we had a superior backup in Hall on the roster. That means by the time a bench spot opens up both Lucy/Hernandez will likely be waiting in the wings (maybe not as starters but for a spot) so there was absolutely no point in keeping Stewart. Funny you mention Lucy. I was just gonna get on here and ask how he's been doing without having to look it up. I was really high on this guy when they drafted him out of Stanford.
  25. I give Pauley the benefit of the doubt that this past season really stuck in his craw (whatever the hell that is). I look for him to come back very focused and very refreshed ready to lead this team. .320 45 HR 115 RBI 2 SB
