Wanne replied to Punch and Judy Garland's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was reading a few places that the Phils picked up $24M of the $48...is this true?!?...if so....THANK YOU!!! Compare that to what the Marlins are picking up to Delgado....wow!!! -

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) I'm kind of upset that this means Frank or Pauly is long gone, How do you figure Paulie's gone? -

Does this hurt the team...no...only in maybe chemistry and how it will effect Crede and AJ who formed the 3 Stooges...that is my only real concern. ARow had the most value in terms of a trade without disrupting the Sox lineup. Face it...he really wasn't a huge threat for that much of the year at the plate. Damn...I'll miss him though. -
Opener moved to ESPN Sunday Night 4/2/06

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 23, 2005 -> 12:07 PM) Did it w/ Boston. Shocker! Gee...maybe we'll get Berman to do the game! -
I'm to the point where I couldn't give a flyin f*** what ESPN says anymore...they're no more than a pimple on my butt IMO. I RARELY watch it anyway...from the biased reporting, to the anchors who think they're friggin hilarious...it's just not worth expending that much effort in regards to those jerkoffs. From Berman and his Red Sox woody...to the fact that most still dis the Bears...who really gives a s*** was ESPN has to say. For those of you who are lucky enough to get Comcast...ESPN should be an afterthought except watching the occasional decent games. God I wish Comcast could be had via satellite.

Agreed with the "he's expendable" part. As much as I like ARow and feel he adds a dimension to the team that doesn't always show in the box score...his production at the plate left alot to be desired. If he could be replaced with Pierre and move Gooch down to 6th...I'm ok with that.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Nov 22, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) Couple questions regarding Tucson? What time does it get dark in mid march? I'm trying to figure if I can golf after the Sox games. Sun sets around 6:30 or so in the middle of March!

Kinda funny the DBacks almost got $10K per player for having a s*** year! WTF?!? ChiSox got a nice little payoff!

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) Pods should never play CF unless it's in emergency duty! True...that's pretty much what I was thinkin too. As for what Al Lopez said...Pods' does get poor jumps in LF...and I know this sounds weird and shouldn't be the case...but it's easier to get good jumps in CF than the corners...you just have a better perspective for the ball hit, where the pitch is, the swing, etc...that's how I've always felt playing there anyway.

I've been thinking about this ever since I've been reading about Rowand being possible bait. I'm thinking for who. A few teams mentioned were the Yanks and I believe Marlins. What about if the Mets move Cameron...and KW was looking for a left hand stick...do you think the Mets would move Floyd? Just a rambling thought....but my original question...would people be ok with Pods moving to CF. I know this debate was rampant last year. Obviously his arm is much weeker (but not as week as OneDog's was).

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 06:56 PM) I agree with you on that fact about Hi Corbett. I remember walking over and sitting right in the front row while the pitchers were warming out on the rubber (its got the ones down each line between 3rd and the outfield wall) and I could have just about reached out and grabbed them (they were so close). Yep, aside from baseball the food is one of my favorite parts of the trip. There are so many great spots to eat in the Phoenix area and than the stadiums all have some good chow. Overall Peoria is really awesome, only reason I rank Surprise higher is I happened to roam into the back area (the fence was open and I walked right through it, not realizing it was a restricted area). I end up walking past Arod (Just me and him and I just said hey, good luck) and than go into this batting cage area and watch Arod and some minor leaguers hit for a few. I'm there for about an hr and I now am trying to get back into the stadium but the gate I went through is now locked. I end up walking around confused for a minute or two (Trying to find another way in) and finally this guy stops me (he had seen me a few times) and I'm like, how do I get back into the park. He asks me who I am (curious, because he thought I belonged here) and I explained it to him and he laughed saying he just assumed I was the owners son or something. The thing is, for those that haven't been, almost every stadium (especially the Sox and Mariners complexes) allow you to go into the minor league sections and just watch them do the drills (kind of neat for those real big baseball nerds like myself). Best food hands down has to be Peoria. They got everything from Burrito's to Sausages to Pita's. And its all damn good. Every year we go to Peoria (or Tempe) on our way back to Cali because it gives us about a 15-20 minute jump start home. I also have to thank all the senior citizens who volunteer at the parks. They single handedly help make spring training what it is. Without them the teams would have to charge more and it probably woudln't be as great of an experience for so many fans. They all volunteer and most are big time baseball fans and very friendly people (often times they have some good stories too or if your an autograph person they can tell you some good spots to go). Yup...Peoria does have the best grub. Maryvale has good brats. I'm kind of biased...but I still prefer Peoria over them all (probably due to proximity)...and the fact we befriended a beer vendor in the outfield lawn section walkway who does us a solid every time we're there. The Arrowhead area really has quite a bit of things going up plus TONS of restaurants...and in the near future...down the 101 at the new Cards stadium and Glendale Arena, there's going to be similar things. If you make it a day and want some good food...go to Papadeaux's (off the I-17 north of Peoria Ave.) Cajun seafood...AWESOME! I'm still not sold on Surprise for some reason. Maryvale's not bad...RARELY crowded either...just don't stop anywhere around the stadium.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 03:49 PM) Compared to Florida - which I think is what Jason was doing - it's waaaay better in AZ. Oh I know Steff...but I just didn't want someone thinkin that it's just a hop, skip and a jump to some of these places. Florida's more of, "Here's you local team" and spread so far out. I did enjoy my Sarasota visits the handful of times I was there. I'm still pissed I can't find this program I had signed (I think in '73 or so) at a Sox ST game against the Phils. I even got Luzinski's and Mike Schmidt's auto on it. Carlos, Melton, No-Neck...it was awesome. And now I think it's completely gone and don't have a clue what happened to it.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2005 -> 11:27 AM) Plus AZ is a lot nicer since you can really travel with the Sox if you want. All the teams are within a 2 hr vicinity of each other. Most (the ones in Phoenix) are within 30 minutes of each other. That's not entirely true...in theory maybe...with no traffic. I live a few minutes from Peoria Sports Complex...and if you don't know any better and take Bell Road out to Surprise...you'll sit in traffic for a good hour to go about 8-10 miles. I guess it all depends where you're coming from and of course where you live. Easiest to access IMO: Tempe Diablo (Angels) Right off the 10. Peoria (Mariners/Padres) Right off 101 Loop at 83rd Ave. HoHoKam BLOWS!!!!! Getting in and out of there is a nightmare...plus it smells like a Hospice Facility. You can kiss an hour and a half of your life goodbye driving out there from the NW Valley or Central Phoenix. Scottsdale (Giants) isn't too bad except the Scottsdale traffic. Avoid Scottsdale Road like the plague if you can. Just not crazy about that stadium...or even going there. Maryvale (Brewers) is pretty easy (for me anyway)...even though it's a pretty high violent crime area. From most places it's easier to take the 10 West and go north on 51st or 59th Ave. Surprise (Rangers/Royals) isn't bad if you know the back way like I told JimH last year. Probably saved him 45 minutes in traffic. Go out Dunlap/Olive to Dysart and come up from the South. Really funky lookin stadium too. Phoenix Muni (A's)...isn't that awful bad to get to (again...need to know the short cuts depending on what direction you're coming from). Pretty close to the Dog Track too. It's probably the most outdated stadium here but the did about a$8M rennovation to it (haven't seen it yet)...but I still don't think there's any lawn seats. Tucson Electric...piece of cake to get to (from Phoenix anyway). I just don't care for Tucson that much.

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) Yea, he was born in NY.. but lived in the DR from (iirc) '79 to '83 so his formable years were greatly influenced by DR culture. I didn't know that...but he did attend school systems through HS in the Miami area....si?!? But...I also remember the clamor when he wanted out of Tex...and the Sox at one time was listed as a possible destination....and most people were pretty thrilled with the idea of ARod on the South Side. He's a great ball player...no doubt. Anybody else think he really misses playing short?
-
He's not on the Sox...so I couldn't give a rat's ass about ARod. Would I take him on my team...hell yes...but he's not...so why get yer undies in a wad about him? I thought it was strange to see him on the field with all the Latino players before that WS game...dude...weren't you born in NYC?!?...then he's gonna go play for who at the World Games (or whatever the hell it's called).

I know they open the first 2 games against the Rockies (which is weird because it's usually the DBacks).

QUOTE(Steff @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) Schedule around...? And who's going this year? I guess I will since I live here!!! Plus...my Mom and Dad will be coming out for a month since my Dad still has a woody since the end of the Series (I blame it on Lavitra!)...from the TMI Dept. I'd like to meet some faces behind all these names. I work from home and live pretty close to Peoria Sports Complex...and not far from Surprise....so you can bet yer ass I'll be at probably 50% of the games this year.

Frank Thomas an Indian?!?!? What a moron this guy is.

To me the logical replacement would be Delgado...forget the Thome talk.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) So now the White Sox have to weigh what they should pay to retain Kong vs what they can deal to get his marquee value in someone else. Make no mistake about it. The face & voice of America's heartland is now a marque player. He can sell ads on TV probably better than most others. Obviously in that respect Thome is the most sensible name for a replacement. To suggest that he can return to AL & compete for the MVP in 2006 for the White Sox is not far-fetched by any stretch of the imagination. He's got a heartland face & voice as well & the Cell seems tailor made for him. I thought the idea was for production in terms of on the field...not the endorsement and PR field. Hey...I'd love PK back like everybody else...but if he does decide to leave...I think the only viable replacement in terms of production would be Delgado IMO.
-
Oh Hell Yes!!! If the Sox are in the playoffs...you can bet your ass everybody will be just as uptight and intense as this past year. Of course you always want it...that's why you watch...that why you play. Do you equate your business and personal life with one conquest?...I hope not. The more you get...the more you want. By the time the Bulls won their 6th title...I think I pretty much allienated everybody close to me during the playoffs and probably got a little more psychotic each year. It's nice to finally have that taste of success. It's still mind boggling to me...Chicago White Sox...World Series Champs!!!!

Konerko worth a lot to Sox, but not huge salary November 11, 2005 The most unfortunate thing about professional sports these days, at least in the non-Terrell Owens category, is the way change occurs at warp speed. No sooner had the White Sox won their first World Series in 88 years than people were obsessing over whether first baseman Paul Konerko would stay with the team. And now, 16 days after that momentous event, we're being asked to take inventory of our feelings about Konerko. That doesn't seem right. This is the guy who helped carry the Sox through their playoff run. If there was a face of this team, a team of beautifully working parts, it was Konerko. But soon that face will be getting contract offers via free agency, and we need to face facts. Konerko isn't worth some of the numbers that have been bandied about or, to be more accurate, he can't be worth those numbers to the Sox. Five years, $75 million? That's not Konerko. It almost pains me to write that because it puts everything in such stark, either/or terms. But that's pro sports, and the exact thing we're doing is the exact thing the Sox and all the other interested clubs are doing. We're eyeballing and analyzing. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...cs-home-utility
