  1. QUOTE(hi8is @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:47 AM) Everything imaginable, and many things not imaginable, can be considered sexy by humans. However, the female southern pine beetle exudes a pheromone called frontalin in her flatus that not only serves to attract males but acts as a general gathering call to both males and females of her species. Her farts are an invitation to an orgy. Unfortunately for her, her frontalin-laden farts also attract predators. Damn dude...that's the most informative info I've gotten this week!...I love s*** like that!
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:38 PM) You keep bringing up cost certainty. If that is the White Sox end all, why did KW refuse to negotiate with Konerko last offseason? The problem with not doing that is everyone, players and agents included, see how much more Konerko is going to have to play with, and no one is going to sign a contract well below market value. If Esteban Loiasa gets $21 million over 3 years, there is no telling what these White Sox pitchers next contracts are going to look like if they play their cards right and don't let KW bully them. I think you answered your own question DA. Did you or KW know PK was going to have a solid year again and be a post season hero?!? He could have fallen flat on his face this year and KW was just being cautious in case he needed to move in another direction other than Paulie. All he's saying is he doesn't want to put himself in a situation like they were with Paulie this off season and have their hands tied by other teams overspending.
  3. Actually the guy that the DBacks were pushing for was Anderson...and this combination was the one they settled on. Who knows...Young could eventually be a stud...guess we'll see in a few years.
  4. QUOTE(Wedge @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:33 PM) So is our rotation now the Killer J's? Javier Jon Jose Nah...let's stay away from that and any Houston "Killer" take-offs.
  5. Nice Kenny quote: "I don't have any desire to break up the rotation that helped us to a championship," Williams said. "That said, both Jose and Jon have been and will be given a chance to stay beyond the 2006 season. "We will try not to be put in the position, as we were with Konerko, where we're at the mercy of the market. We'll try to stay ahead of the curve." I like Kenny's thinking here...stay proactive and avoid being forced into a corner.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:41 AM) Makes a lot of sense for DBacks, as they add a super prospect to their already loaded farm system. I think we'll know why the Sox did this move in about 10 days. Loaded?!? Besides Drew and Quentin I'm not really seein too much.
  7. I'm not big on seeing Garland go...but if he's gonna be gone next year and the only thing we see in return is a couple of draft picks, I'd rather pick up somebody of Vaz stature. He could very well be "reborn" like the Count was this past year. Plus...for those who say he's been bad the past few years...his 11-15 record and 4.42 era are a little deceiving. Go and look at his game log and look at how many games he lost where the DBacks only scored less than 3 runs per game. Out of his 32 starts...the DBacks scored 3 or less runs per game in 24 of those games. In 19 of those 32 they scored 2 or less runs. Take out his abysmal first month (hell...first game of 7 ER in 1.2 IP...he did pretty well to bring his era down into the 4's. He's pretty up and down in terms of ERs...but lost a decent number of 3-1, 4-2 games....but did have a few games of getting pounded. Is he better than Garland...no. But Jon has had ONE good year and will probably move on. Would I give up Anderson or Young in the deal....NO.
  8. QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) The Sox barely fell short... Sounds like the Ueckerism, "Juuuuuuust a bit outside..." [The Yankees reached a preliminary agreement on a two-year, $2.4 million contract with left-handed reliever Mike Myers.] Wonder what the Sox offer was....
  9. QUOTE(FGarcia34 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) Not to bust anyone's bubble, but this has Red Sox written all over it. They just traded their starting SS for a third base prospect and now all of a sudden the best SS in baseball wants to be traded. Maybe its just me but if he wants out of Baltimore, hes going to jet straight for them other Sox. The O's would trade him to Boston?!? I think not!
  10. You could be the Founding member of the Joe Borchard Fan Club!!!
  11. I love it!!! Mack is exactly the grinder this team thrives on. Marte was done here...especially for the coin he was gonna make next year. If Kenny does land Meyers...another excellent offseason!
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) If that's the case, you don't go to your boss looking for more responsibility, when you might not be able to handle what they ask of you. Oh I agree wholeheartedly with ya...but I just wish they would have cited his reasoning for not playing this winter is all I'm saying.
  13. Without knowing specifics...I think it may be a little premature to just say that. Didn't Willie have a family matter this past year? Maybe he had to provide more time for his daughter? Who knows. If it was just Willie saying, "Nah...I don't want/need to play this winter..." then yes...I'd tend to agree.
  14. Please correct me if I'm wrong...but didn't Pablo fill in at 3rd for some games this past year?!? I know he's no Crede with the glove over there...but I like him in the order when he fills in. Interesting to hear Willie declined to play winter ball. Maybe it had more to do with his personal situation and family than just not wanting to play.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) Personally, I don't think Harris will be on the Sox next year. I think he'll be traded in a minor deal in the next month or so to a team looking for a back-up 2nd baseman. Which is sad IMO. I still think Willie has value...not only at second...but he's really not that bad of a CF option just in case BA and or Owens fail miserably at the plate or get hurt.
  16. The guy I kind of feel sorry for in all of this is Joe Girarde. I guess he knew the story coming in...maybe not to this extent. Maybe it appeals to him though...
  17. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) I own that card in your avatar. Wow. Haven't seen that one in awhile. Me too! Frank in his Auburn jersey?
  18. Yeah Bobby...that's why you're managing in Japan...nobody wants you here. A sad, faint little voice crying out for attention.....
  19. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 02:23 AM) Now the Juan Pierre threads can be officially closed. Thank God! It's not that I don't like Pierre...but certainly not enough to give up any prospects for him. But like P&J Gar said...not a necessity at all. I have no problem with BA and Owens battling it out for the CF position this spring.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 11:45 AM) I'd actually argue that it is harder on Jenks than it is on Anderson. Anderson has 8 other guys in the line up to hide in, and two other OFers to help him out. When Jenks is on the mound, odds are the game rests on every pitch he throws, pretty much everytime he is out there. I am just making the point that teams do what they need to do to fill their holes, and balance their spending. For a team like the Sox, that means they need a few cheap guys to balance out their big money contracts. There is nothing wrong with Brian Anderson or whoever getting a chance on a defending World Champion team, as they Sox have the entire rest of the line up as veterans, and an incredible pitching staff as well. it isn't like we are pulling a Florida Marlins and pulling the plug after winning a WS. By far the best analysis in terms of a rookie coming in to man CF I've heard yet.
  21. QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 10:13 AM) Wow, talk about not fitting....."homies" is about the LAST thing I'd connect to Thome. And THAT's why it's funny!!!! Fits better than "Thome's Eses"
  22. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 02:40 AM) I like Gooch 2nd...but i can live with him at 6. Uribe scares me at the 2 hole. Me too! I like Juan right where he's at. Here's an unlikely scenerio...what if Owens comes in to ST and absolutely tears it up (which he'd have to)....there's your 2 hitter. Like I said...not likely at all...but ya never know.
  23. The Trib said that Ozzie was gonna try Uribe in the 2 hole. Manager Ozzie Guillen said the Sox would try Juan Uribe in the second spot ion the batting order, even though Uribe is known as a free swinger. Uribe, however, tied for the team lead with 11 sacrifices last season and drew 10 of his 34 walks in the final month. Should Uribe fail, Tadahito Iguchi could move back to that spot. Guillen would prefer to bat Iguchi sixth or seventh for his run-producing ability. The Sox also are seeking a left-handed-hitting infielder who can spell Joe Crede at third. The Sox had interest last spring in Arizona switch-hitter Alex Cintron, who could be available.
  24. QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) Yeah, who knows where the Sox would be if that deal went thru and they were paying $10 million extra for Jones. That might have meant no Pods, no Count, no Blum, etc. And most importantly....NO AJ!!!
  25. What the heck is it with these teams throwing all this money at pitching...could the "White Sox Effect" be in play here?...or just desperate times?!? Do you think the A's spent too much throwing a three-year contract worth nearly $21.4 million to Esteban Loaiza? While that's not out of line for a staring pitcher...for him it is IMO.
