  1. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 07:15 PM) Adam Eaton looks nothing like baseball player, typical college graduate Joe Shmoe. FWIW. he's blending....
  2. I agree with Rock...I think Robin is good for a rebuild with the kids. I think Steverson will be a much more important figure...but Robin's steady hand will be appreciated. I have no problem with this. I'm a little surprised since I was unsure of Robin's commitment to the Sox long term as a manager.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 03:49 PM) One problem Phegley has, which if your profession is a catcher, can be considered alarming, is actually catching the ball. Chances are no one will want to ever see Flowers, Phegley or Nieto catch another game for the White Sox once October rolls around, but teams aren't exactly trading away outstanding catchers who hit a ton at the moment. Exactly. I know this has been brought up a ton...but what would it take you think to pry away either Sanchez or Murphy from the Yankees (Murphy seems more feasible)?
  4. SERIOUSLY!!!...now that's a trip BigEd!
  5. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 06:59 PM) Is the coast that close? I will have to check that out. Thanks for the suggestion! Thank you too rowand's rowdies! Dude...I've made that drive from SD to Phx in 5 hours! I'd usually figure 6 for stops and stuff...but I haul ass. Just take it moderately thru the Mtns between SD and El Centro...once you get past those...you're home free. People have a tendency to haul ass thru there...just take it easy...after that it's a long open stretch. Made it in 5 hours many times. I highly suggest it! Bet your girls would dig on the beach. Mission Beach is a little congested (probably not now)...but it's a ton of fun right there. Interstate 8 goes right into it... If you want (depending on your quiche)...you can go out on the fishing boat for half day also. I took my 3 kids on half day and it was about $225 or so (one day license and pole rental). Yellow Tail tuna season also I believe.... If you're interested IM me and I'll give the name of a place I love to stay up the beach on Mission. It's on the beach...very moderately price (cheap actually $90-100 a night if that this time of year) and next to a Joe's Crab Shack (which I love). My favorite hang out right there is a place called 710 Beach Club...it's a ridiculously fun Bears/Chicago sports bar. Pretty decent food too! Place is a zoo on sunday mornings during football season....TONS of fun! Blackhawk games are huge too. Down the boardwalk is a restaurant called World Famous. LOVE that place too. Right on the beach...great view and food. I'll throw this out there too....take I-5 up and get off at La Jolla Pkwy...turns into Torrey Pines Rd and take it to Prospect (Scripps Park). It's downtown La Jolla (which many people call mini Beverly Hills/Rodeo Drive). They have the Sandstone Caves there (look that up...you can rent kayaks out there...and it's a cool place to snorkle). Bunch of Sea Lions hang out down there which is pretty cool...and find Coast Blvd Beach Park. You'll love it. And down by Scripps Park...a cool little place to eat...it's called Cody's. It's a little house turned into an eatery. Highly suggest the burger...or the French Toast!!!! La Jolla is really really nice... Seriously...for people coming out to Phx from Chicago...if you've never been to San Diego...you're nuts for not going. And there's no "Police" check points. There's BORDER PATROL points on the other side of the CA border on I-8 and one about 35 miles outside of SD...no biggie. LA is 5 hours away (I've made it in 4.5)...but it's a armpit IMO. I'd stick with SD (especially with kids)...way less stressful. Eff Disneyland!... If I could afford it...I'd live in San Diego in a heartbeat.
  6. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 04:30 PM) I am working on a trip to Arizona for spring training. I have to sell it to the family as a family vacation. They do not want to spend more than a day or so at Sox camp. I am hoping they have fun and change their mind. Other than the Grand Canyon, any cool stuff to do for families? I have pre-teen daughters that are afraid of rattlesnakes so I can't do much desert hiking. Tell ya what...if you're willing to spend 5 hours in the car to go to the Grand Canyon (which actually bores me to tears...unless you plan on hiking down into it which is great)...you might as well spend another hour and just head west to San Diego. In my opinion you're better off. Sea World and the Zoo...not to mention a ton of great restaurants...and THE BEACH!!!! They've had ridiculously nice weather out there the entire fall/winter. It's still 75º out there (which is a summer temp).
  7. Hope everybody that comes out has a blast...and yes...go to as many stadiums as possible! Camelback Ranch has some fun stuff around the area...hanging out at Westgate (the Hawks aren't out here in March...but still some good hockey at Jobing). Some pretty decent places to eat at Westgate...The Yard House and Gordon Biersch are my faves. Saddle Ranch is ok. Off of Northern (3 miles north of Camelback) there Park West...which has my favorite pizza there...Grimaldi's!!!! It is THE BOMB IMO...nice place too. There's also a Fleming's Steakhouse there...they just opened a Toby Keith's Bar and Grill (haven't been). If you're hungry for a good burger...Blue Burger Grille!!!...I highly recommend! Like Ginger said...up around Peoria you can find just about anything to eat. Traffic is a b**** up there though. My office building is right next to Peoria Sports Complex and it's a zoo around there in March. If you just want a beer and some food I like Fox and Hounds personally. If you want to hang out outside and have a beer go to Salty Senoritas. All kinds of food joints around there. The PF Changs there isn't that great IMO. If you can...go up off or Union Hills and go to Arrowhead Grill. GREAT food!!! Have fun! I'm going to make my crappy weather prediction right now. It's been so ridiculously nice here since the beginning of December til now...70 and sunny...every stinkin' day (and actually it pisses me off because I got new skis and we haven't gotten squat for snow up north!!!)...but it's been so nice here I predict it'll be rainy and cold! It always works that way. I'll be stoked for ST...and we'll get rain! It'll be nice for at least half of it tho! Which reminds me...if you do want to ski (if the weather lets you) there's a bus that leaves from the 101 and I-17 every day up to Snowbowl in Flag. It's only $89 which includes your lift ticket (you'll have to rent skis tho). IM me if you want more info... btw...this is my FAVORITE ALL-TIME picture from Spring Training here. It's our parking lot next to Peoria Sports Complex after the Cubs were hear playing the Mariners! Hahaaa......Lovable Effing Losers!!!
  8. I thought letting Thome go was a good move... I loved the Chris Young trade! Waiting to hear from the people that said Gordo should be hitting 3rd...or would be our #3 hitter very soon!
  9. I'm sorry...but somebody explain to me again why the hell the Astros would even consider trading Castro?...do they have a stud C waiting in the wings?
  10. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 06:05 PM) These are not the 1st reports of this. I mentioned it on the day it happened that AZ was not high on Eaton anymore as they saw him as "an arrogant selfish me type player". This was reported by AM 620's John Gambadoro, a respected sports news source and someone I know personally. He has a great idea of the pulse of the DBacks and when he reported the trade, basically made it seem like Eaton was a throw in (Skaggs was the big piece in the deal) and that the DBacks were done with him, because of his attitude, much like Trevor Bauer. The Dbacks are being run into the ground by one of the worst GMs in sports, Kevin Towers. They also got demolished by the Dodgers and were weak minded and basically the definition of pushovers. So if someone didn't fit into the "DBacks mold", I'm OK with that. I don't really get the selfish label. He went deep into counts in the leadoff spot. He plays CF. If he was a free swinging middle of the lineup hitter, say like an Adam Dunn, then I could see him being called selfish for trying to just hit HRs for himself. But in the leadoff spot, and in CF, I don't see a problem with him being a "me" player. I wouldn't be worried about this, if there is a sport that is more about the individual than any other of the big 4 sports, it is baseball anyway. I still like the move. Not sure I really "respect" any sports radio voice out here...they're all awful if you ask me. Gambo comes off a little "I know and you don't" too much...which many times is just his OPINION on a topic. Maybe Eaton was a little jacked since Towers couldn't get his head out of his ass in terms of the entire outfield situation and not one of them could get a consistent rhythm going because of inconsistent PT since there were too many OFs. Maybe he wasn't happy with his rehab went. Who knows...and like you said I don't get the selfish label (first I've really heard of it) either. Like I said earlier....all I know are guys like Gibson, Trammel and Brett Butler absolutely LOVED that guy...his attitude and how he played. Maybe Gambo is just talking to the same "anonymous" mouth piece....
  11. Meh...who cares. Rather have that than another passive blah. Plus...Gibson and the other coaches loved him...which is more telling than some mood ring in the clubhouse who's job/attention felt threatened.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 08:35 PM) I'd hate to see him stop right now. I hope he pulls the trigger on a major trade. I know we have some lineup upgrades already if Eaton opens in CF and the new third baseman as well to go with Garcia for a full year in right, but I'd like to see a huge trade involving multiple players. Surely somebody wants Beckham, a former first rounder and some of you insist DeAza and Viciedo have value as well. I'd like to trade one of them. How bout Beckham, Viciedo and a minor league pitching stud all in one package for some more good players? If our new 3B and Eaton aren't ready for the majors, our team is gonna resemble last year's team so much. I'd say 90 plus losses will be a certainty. I'm confident he'll make a good trade UNLESS our players have absolutely no value or trash value, which I guess, is possible. I believe in Rick Hahn, though. If you go into next year with the mindset this team is going to be a contender I'm afraid you're going to be very disappointed. These moves were made for the future....not 2014.
  13. RIP Hermy! I sure do remember that GINORMOUS mitt he used to use to catch Wilbur Wood.

    Sooooo

QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Dec 26, 2013 -> 11:07 PM) Any new rumors on any names the Sox could be targeting? Last I saw was JR Murphy. well...I did suggest either him or Sanchez a while back that just got glossed over in a wave of latent blather. Sanchez is probably a pipe dream...but Murphy I think could be had and may very well pan out better than Sanchez.
  15. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 09:54 PM) They were also talking about Davidson's hair on MLB network. Best in baseball supposedly.
  16. Davidson's D has been improving...and hell...he hasn't been a F/T 3B very long at all...but I have a feeling Robin my have a nice role in his development too. Plus the fact...he's only 22. Both he and Eaton blasted thru the minors in a hurry with their productivity. There'll be some growing pains...but I'll take those over stagnant vets any day.
  17. Since we're going youth...I wonder what it would take to pry either Sanchez (pipe dream I know) or Murphy from the Yankees? A package with Lexi?..
  18. I'd give to Jones to start the season. Hell...he's 27 so it's not like you're throwing him into the fire. Guy's got some gas and a filthy slider....
  19. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 07:06 PM) The Sox are trading all their high character guys this off season Good return though, very surprising. What is Kevin Towers doing?? I agree. Trumbo really doesn't fit them...and he decides not to make a move and hold onto his specs last year at deadline. Who knows. All I can say I'm incredibly stoked about the addition of Eaton and Davidson!!!
  20. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) Towers is in a win now/still cost conscious mode and when he got Trumbo he needed to move Davidson. Obviously he and Hahn had good discussions and in the end the trade goes; Reed, Santiago, Jacobs for Davidson and Eaton which make Towers sitting on his hands at the trading deadline puzzling. He didn't have to move Davidson btw...
  21. HOLY CRAP this is a great trade!!!! The young talent that Hahn is acquiring is ridiculous! As for Davidson like someone said earlier I was kind of hoping for him or Owings last year. Kind of makes me wonder wtf Towers is doing tho?..... LOOOOOVE this!!!
  22. Kubel signs minor league contract with Twins. Mark my words...I don't care how bad he's been the last year and a half or even last year...he's good for at least two walk-off HRs against the Sox.
  23. QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 07:01 PM) I like the trade. Thought the prospect throw-in was unneeded, but it sounds like it's not a big loss anyways. Hopefully we can get something decent for De Aza now. yeah...so it was basically giving Thornton away. Oh well. Get on the phone with Pittsburgh......
  24. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 11:07 AM) Quick scouting report from 2012 (at that point listed as a 4th outfielder ceiling): Relative Risk: Low. Big league ready with very good approach and grinder mentality. you had me at "grindy". I like this trade a lot. Very good cost controlled player for a while and fills a nice slot. Eaton was one of the DBags better specs a few years back and had him slotted to open in CF last year...but can be moved all over.
