9/9 Indians (Gomez) at White Sox (Buehrle)
Wanne replied to Swingandalongonetoleft's topic in 2011 Season in Review
hahaaaa...are you effing kidding me?!? That was awesome! -
That really sucks! Ya know...not trying to start anything...but I'm REEEEALLY f***ing sick of our guys getting drilled all the time. Ask Randy Johnson how he'd handle it....

9/8 Indians (Huff) at White Sox (Floyd)

The only person Morel reminds me of is a young Joe Crede. Any other comparisons are a little out there IMO.... -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 08:05 PM) Haha, nice defense. Konerko's defense has been god awful of late. I don't think that was on Konerko. I just caught the end of it...but it looked to me Lexi and Omar got crossed up. Didn't look like a bad throw at all. Like to see it again.... -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) The other thing to think about De Aza vs. anyone else is...if not him, who leads off? Exactly...

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) As do I, but you have to try and salvage the 400 million owed to Rios. Extremely short leash, 1-2 months tops if he's not performing at an All-Star level, De Aza is in. And I'd rather have the potential monster corner OF of Q and Vic Rios is the one out of the albatross contracts of Dunn, Rios and Peavy that will be most likely moved IMO (with eating salary). We're just flat out stuck with Dunn and Peavy. But there is no way in hell De Aza shouldn't be starting and leading off next year.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 07:05 AM) That's not lack of brains, that's just him being immature as a pitcher. This is a guy who didn't pitch even a full season in the minors, let alone college or beforehand. What you are describing is a perfect example of a learned pitching skill. I'll take Sergio and his novice upside over a bevy of other closers. The skill set this kid brings is sick and like NSS72 says...he's just getting started. He's gone through stretches he was just plain sick...unhittable. Not sure where the mental midget comment even came in.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 10:23 PM) Some saves are padded. Me might have decent stuff but not the brain to match it. would you rather have Jenks back...
-
QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 6, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) For my first post... I would not mind AJ being the backup next year.. and teaching Flowers everything he can.. Good luck with that....welcome aboard btw!

Honestly...if you could find a taker...I wouldn't cry dealing AJ either.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 10:37 AM) A bad manager is easier to recover from than a bad GM. Guillen has to go, but it can't stop there. Williams has put together a team that no manager could win with. I'm a firm believer that the coaching staff plays a MAJOR role in all of this too...it's just not Ozzie and KW. I know I keep pointing at these guys...but if any of you looked at the DBacks opening day lineup and thought they would compete you're full of it. They've put together an incredible staff IMO. We have the ubber-exciting combination of Cora, Harold Baines and Greg Walker. Those guys could motivate a house plant to grow...
-
QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) I think the manager hsa little influence on the game itself. They have influence on the clubhouse, and that's where I think Ozzie is good. But, you're right, if the players don't perform, and they haven't this year, it really doesn't matter who the manager is. I'm not saying I'm righ, but that's what I think. I wish I had a dollar for every time Ozzie left a pitcher in for too long or pitched to somebody with an open base... thus stringing together 4 full pages in the game thread of what an idiot he is. Yes...they do have influence. You think Rios pencils himself in the 4-hole?
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 09:22 PM) The Sox have more to lose by keeping Guillen than the Marlins have to gain by hiring him. who says? They're trying to sell tickets down there hoss...which ain't easy. Don't underestimate the hispanic market...ya know...MIAMI!!! You want a big name running your team...opening a new stadium instead of Joe Blow.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) But then they have to go with another one year guy and they are opening their new park. I would think if their interest has been genuine, they would like to have Ozzie in place on opening day next season. thank you...
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 08:52 PM) What compensation are they going to get from Florida at this point? Not Morrison they said no to that last year. Also, if the plan is to get rid of KW you can't do that and keep Guillen. Sox have no leverage in this with Fla. I disagree. The Sox don't have to do s*** with Ozzie...he's under contract. If the Marlins are banking on Ozzie (which I'm hedging they are) to open their new era and spiffy new ballpark why wouldn't they give compensation. Not that I really give a s***...but don't act like the Sox have zero leverage.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 08:45 PM) He says what he wants to say. What he says had no effect on this series. Detroit is having a decent to good season. The Sox were not going to turn it on and have one stellar month. This was scripted to be the series where the Sox were buried. The 5-game win streak was our longest of the year. Big deal. Ozzie is honest. He's watched this crap team all year. What did you want him to say? I know, you wanted him to be Ned Yost and say we have to take it one game at a time. I'm sure our next manager will return to the cliches. There's really only a couple managers like this: Ozzie, Lou and Lasorda and 2 of the 3 are retired. Our next skipper will be good n dull. How bout you just don't say anything?!? You can defend all you want...but managers just don't say that. I'm sure when Ozzie's wife asks him, "does my ass look fat in these jeans?..." Ozzie immediately says, "jess...you an effin bee fah cow..."

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) If Guillen is not fired at the end of this road trip I think it only means Williams is gone too. I know he gets a LOT of flack, but chairman Reinsdorf is not a dumb guy. He knows massive changes need to be made. wtf good does it do to fire somebody now?...please.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 08:37 PM) Wow, what a debacle. Shane Lindsay is absolutely awful. I'm sorry though, having Cabrera bat there in a 14-0 game is worthy of someone getting thrown at. I sincerely doubt there's one person on this staff (besides maybe Danks) that would have the nuts to throw at somebody. It's disgusting. They just don't care....
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) Do you guys think Jerry will throw a middle finger to the fans and name Joey Cora? It would make sense. If he wants to have crowds of 15-16K or so every game...sure...go ahead.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 4, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) Why no LaRussa banter when he's the most likely replacement? Cause he's stale...and boring...and too obvious. Can't understand why JR can't understand the need to infuse fresh blood...enthusiasm. Tony LaRussa is as enthusiastic as a cold sore!
-
I apologize to the admins if they deem this should have been placed in another thread...but they were getting jumbled on the topic. Just wondering who may be in line if Ozzie is jettisoned. I'm not on the LaRussa bandwagon and have no idea what direction the old man would take. But just a few obvious ones that may have or have not mentioned. Dave Martinez- Solid hire IMO. Learned under Madden. Fresh blood. Bob Brenly- Very knowledgable baseball man. My concern might be how he deals with young guys (or doesn't...not sure of his track record with this). Bobby Valentine- Too "retready" for my tastes. Alan Trammel- Very underestimated/appreciated baseball mind IMO. Wouldn't mind this hire at all with a solid support staff. Don Baylor- Not sure where I stand on this one. Like him more as a coach than manager. Buddy Bell- For the love of GOD please go outside the org. and leave him where he is! Anybody got other names that might fit?... I'd still give my left nut for Carlton Fisk to manage this team. I know he's been out of the game forever and has zero coaching experience...but the guy's crapped out more baseball knowledge than most people have ever even ingested. Just a pipe dream of mine...I know. And let me just add that...I am in NO WAY suggesting Fisk. Just stated it was always pipe dream of mine. I understand it would never happen. Just wanted to state THE OBVIOUS!!! geez-us.

And that, my friends, is a White Sox season
Wanne replied to Jordan4life_2007's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I kinda/sorta understand everybody being pissed about tonight...but honestly is was basically putting a lame horse out of it's misery. There was no EFFIN' way in hell this team was gonna do anything that it hasn't done all year...it's just not clicking consistantantly. Am I pissed about the outcome...to tell you the truth I gave up being pissed over losses like these a long time ago. -
Game Thread: Sox v. Tigers 3:10pm Sept. 3, 2011
Wanne replied to Downtown518's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 05:58 PM) If that doesn't get people fired, nothing will. Fitting end to the season. I'll say it right now...Flowers calls a better game than AJ. Flowers does call a better game than AJ. I've always questioned some of the sequences/pitches AJ calls. God I'm ready for the youth movement and purge the rest of this crap. -
Well...I'm ready for Hahn to take over. Hire Dave Martinez as manager and promote Chambliss to hitting coach. I swear...I've never been a DBag fan...but i am green with envy of the culture that staff of Gibson, Don Baylor and Trammel has instilled in that team. Gibson is the kind of manager that I always envisioned my pipe dream for Sox manager (Carlton Fisk) would be. It's just time for change...
