  1. Somewhere Ozzie's laughing... and Dave Martinez and Sandy Alomar just said WTF!?!?
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) He's got as much of a motivating personality as Harold Baines and similar experience managing as Dan Pasqua. This. Kenny's new hand puppet. Jesus Christ I wish they would have just cleaned house! f*** you Kenny! and f*** you Jerry!
  3. I really think I'm gonna go break something...you have got to be s***tin' me?!? WTF happened to the interview process?!?
  4. I'm still in the minority and think Alomar is the right guy for the job. Steve Phillips had an interesting take (yes...that steve phillips so take it with a grain of salt)...but I somewhat agree with him. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,5829967.story
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 03:19 PM) Don't expect to be overwhelmed by the returns for any of the players the Sox trade. I just don't think teams will be looking to add salary and give much in return. Somewhat agree...except for Danks. He should bring a decent return IMO. If people are looking for blockbusters...I doubt it happens...but it may be interesting to see what parts could be had for a package of say Floyd/Quentin or Danks/Quentin. The parts by themselves probably won't bring all that much. With that said...I know hindsight 20/20...but how Quentin survived the deadline last year and wasn't dealt is maddening.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 12:48 PM) There's absolutely no point to rebuilding now. People need to think about things from a business sense once in a while... Let's see...you've leased 3 movie screens for 2 years and you've realized that they have more technical problems than the owner let on, but for whatever reason you didn't protect yourself in your lease for this possibility. Your options are the following: 1) Continue to pay the lease and make the necessary further investment to operate a suitable movie theater and have the possibility of making a nice profit; 2) Re-lease the movie screens for pennies on the dollar, and sell popcorn at your theater while providing no movies for patrons to watch, meanwhile being liable for the expensive price you originally leased the movie screens for; or 3) Show movies on the screens in their current condition, which prohibits you from showing first run movies, and ensures you take a hefty loss. Meanwhile, you begin selling all your relatively good equipment for unpopped popcorn kernals to be used at some future date. 4) Have Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta burn the place to the ground...write it off as loss....and move on.
  7. I just read Gonzales mail bag...and he even states for Dunn to get his eyesight checked. Is this really a new concept. Did NOBODY think of this during the season like many on here (including me) were saying. Why are all they people saying this? Such a simple fix...but was it even done during the season.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) You hear Fisk's name brought up every time there is a managerial opening for the Sox and I don't understand why. Has to be just wishful thinking, right? He'd be a disaster. probably cause he'd stuff you in a locker the first week on the job...
  9. QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) I doubt it. The players on the Rays are far superior to what's here in Chicago. Those players don't have those type of motivational issues. So who knows how Martinez who has never managed would fare in this challenging environment. He has no track record. I for one am sick and tired of managers and GMs who come here to cur their teeth? you don't honestly know how the players will respond to someone...anyone... with a fresh attitude instead of playing for the guy they know checked out quite a while back.
  10. If Kenny's serious about Alomar like people have said...I wish he'd just hire him then and get it over with...unless he enjoys the drama.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 03:15 PM) I wasn't a big fan of Baines as a player, but I actually think he'd make a fine hitting coach. A guy that played forever has to have some insight on how to adjust one's swing. Doesn't that mean he actually needs to talk? Not so sure I'd be sold on him in that capacity. Of course I've never been a witness to his interactions with the players...so who knows.
  12. Love it!!! One of the bright young up and coming stars on this team IMO. Great move.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 10:24 PM) There's ZERO chance that was written by Ozzie Guillen personally. It was written by someone in the PR office of the Florida Marlins, 100%. There's not a single grammatical error....so obvious, it's not Ozzie's style of expression at all. hahahaaa...ya think.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 06:58 PM) And that Mark! guy. ABSOLUTELY!!!
  15. As someone brought up previously...it's not like we have all young players anyway. A core of veterans remain (that remains to be seen until spring though). But the likelihood most will be around still this spring. In that case advantage Alomar IMO...
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 06:36 PM) Seriously, why must every f***ing discussion devolve into needless hyperbole? This is why it's so god damn hard to get good dialogue going here, it's f***ing ridiculous. Jesus...take an f***ing chill pill!!!! Like there's not enough ad nauseum on every little topic. I just don't buy the fact that just because Martinez has been bench coach for X years and Alomar has only been X...makes Martinez better or more qualified. Alomar has been around the game long enough...and around plenty of coaches to know what he'd like to see/do as a manager and in my opinion well qualified. Have at it....
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 06:28 PM) What I don't get is everyone clamoring for Martinez yet yawning at the thought of Alomar. Neither of them have any type of significant managerial experience to base our opinion of how they'll be as a MLB manager. People are upset that Alomar might be reserved and quiet? Screw that, I'll take reserved and quiet if it means making smart decisions. It's because Alomar isn't standing next to The Most Brilliant man in all of baseball scribbling on a piece of paper in a mimicking fashion. So yes...that automatically makes Martinez the Second Most Brilliant man in all of baseball. Ya know...a lot of athletes are reserved and quit...and yet garner a ton of respect. Find somebody in that Cleveland dugout that doesn't listen when Alomar talks...guarantee you none.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 05:30 PM) We'd all be happy. If Dunn starts hitting the ball over the outfield walls regularly and Rios hits .300 and slugs like he did 2 years ago, our new manager likely will be the face of the franchise quickly. Personally I always thought Konerko was the face of the franchise. Is Francona the face of Boston? Girardi of the Yanks? If Charlie Manuel is the face of the Phillies...they need a facelift. You sure hold that position to a lofty expanse.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 05:20 PM) I always thought of Mariotti as the hitting coach. TWO Big Thumbs up!!!
  20. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) If he hits .200 next year with 20 hrs, sure. But if he hits .150 with 10 hrs in 2012, how would you see it playing out? He would just come back and shut his mouth, sit on the bench and pretend he's actually a legitimate baseball player? He just looked like a beat down man. I honestly cannot see him going through this again and not seriously think about stepping away at some point. But again...I do hope he gets his vision checked out.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:38 PM) I feel the opposite. I think Crawford is just going to get eaten up in Boston. I just have the gut feeling that Dunn goes back to close to normal next year with a new manager and some time away from the game. And and offseason conditioning program....
  22. If we're rebuilding how could anyone see Francona as a real possibility? Hoping it's Alomar.
  23. yer effing kidding me...2 out homer ties it in Tampa
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 07:07 PM) here is an honest one for you guys: my favorite part was Hawk and Wimpy reuniting in the booth and letting bygones be bygones. it was very nostalgic for me listening to those two again This. I miss Wimpy!
