  1. Sweet swing...dramatic intro...then they bust out with the Christopher Cross song?!?
  2. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 17, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) Even so, I'm still not letting Williams off the hook. I don't care if all teams are offering are AAA players, those players better come here and -- if not immediately -- eventually produce. I want a trade this offseason where rival executives and opposing teams fans express shock at the amount given up for one of our players. None of this "fair for both teams" bulls***. And for those goofs who will say, "he can ask, but it doesn't mean he'll get it," I really don't care. We're not going to rebuild anytime time soon with one-for-one trades of closers for potential #3 starters. Me too...but I have a feeling he's not gonna really do squat. I would have been thrilled with a deal of this nature...but Kenny doesn't want to appear capricious in nature tho I guess. That's a pretty sweet haul for the Padres IMO.
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 07:23 PM) Is STL moving Berkman to 1B or would they be interested in Paulie? I seriously doubt Paulie would go to any team that STs in FLA...that's why I've never taken any stock in him going to the Marlins. I really can't see too many teams right now besides Texas that would be a serious trade partner...
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2011 -> 08:51 PM) You know, Marty. There's this thing in baseball. I believe they're referred to as runs? You have to score them to win. Please let Kenny in on this secret too... at some point you need some decent position players too with some upside...
  5. If you get a nice return for Lexi I see no problem dealing him. He's really no spring chicken..I mean granted it leaves a HUGE hole...but if you're rebuilding...who cares. Plus...everybody keeps clamoring over getting young pitching back. That's great and all...but a young position player (SS) or two would be nice also if you're dealing guys like Danks, Thornton or Floyd.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 12:19 AM) I think Sergio was still a work in progress. He might be better suited to setup than closing. He might become a dominant closer. Still uncertain. I'll take Molina, not knowing what else could've been had. Like I said...my biggest fear is everybody clicks next year...and we find we have not reliable closer. Sergio was in his first real year as a closer. That could work both ways...he could come out and dominate or he could crumble with the pressure of being "the man". I really don't think anybody knows yet. This deal is still a couple years away from being graded.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 10:40 PM) Just wish we could have leveraged something out of Jenks, Crede and (now) Beckham when they had value. Alas...life never works like that. Let's hope this is a case where we look back later and say KW maximized the value of a player and got someone who made even more of a contribution to the franchise over the long haul. I remember having that convo with my dad after the WS that there was no better time to dump Crede than right now...they could have made a killing on it.
  8. Maybe the SEC outta just petition our own government to stop the ridiculous fact the members of Congress ARE NOT subject to insider trading laws. The SEC can go suck a big one until this is stopped. To this day...it's almost THE biggest thing that pisses me off about our country/government. Complete bulls***. Why else do the spend millions to lobby for a $174K a year job. Crooks...all of them...including probably members of the SEC. Sorry...civics rant over.
  9. The only way this will come back and bite us in the ass is IF the Sox come out clicking on all cylinders next year and we have a bunch of 9th inning meltdowns. As much as I'd like to use the "R" word...when you have guys like Konerko, Dunn and Rios in your lineup...as well as AJ...it's really hard to even think about throwing that word out there quite yet. I'm not against it...or anything...but it won't feel like a rebuild until guys like that are gone. I can't give an honest assessment one way or the other since I know nothing about this guy. There were times were Sergio was just plain "unhittable" last year...so it's tough giving up somebody like that for virtual unknown. Time will tell...
  10. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 26, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) AZ wouldn't trade Skaggs for anybody on the Sox roster. I have a hard time believing AZ would trade any of their young pitchers...unless it was a ridiculous return.
  11. I guess my take is IF you could find a trading partner for Paulie (and he agrees to it) it would probably be in the best interest for the future of this team...as much as I would hate seeing him go. As for trades...I just saw that the Halos are looking for a catcher. How ironic would that be if AJ went to them. As for dealing Danks...I'm on the fence on this one. The probability for MB leaving and all...this staff would truly need an "ace-type" pitcher and this would leave the cupboard pretty bare. Although he'd command a greater haul IMO...I'd really have to be almost overwhelmed with the return.
  12. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 25, 2011 -> 12:51 AM) Reds are looking to deal Alonzo:... Reds get: Danks Thornton Sox get: Alonzo Daniel Renken (SP) -- Reds Shopping Yonder Alonso For Pitching By Mark Polishuk [November 24 at 11:31pm CST] The Reds are offering Yonder Alonso as trade bait in their search for a closer or a No. 2 starter, reports Yahoo Sports' Tim Brown. Reds GM Walt Jocketty has spoken to several teams --- including the A's, Blue Jays, Indians and Rays --- about Alonso, though we heard earlier this week that the Reds thought Alonso was too much to give up for Oakland closer Andrew Bailey. Alonso is regarded as Cincinnati's top hitting prospect, if one without a Major League position since Joey Votto is cemented at first base. The 24-year-old has an OPS of .837 in four minor league seasons and hit .330/.398/.545 in 98 plate appearances with the Reds last year. If the Reds were willing to move him, you would think Alonso would be too much to deal for any closer, not just Bailey. Jocketty has said his club's top priority is finding a starting pitcher this offseason, so while the Jays and Indians have some good young arms, they wouldn't be willing to deal a top-of-the-rotation caliber of starter for which the Reds are looking. The Jays and Tribe also have other options at first base, though Adam Lind, Edwin Encarnacion and Matt LaPorta wouldn't be major obstacles if Toronto or Cleveland had a legitimate shot at Alonso. The A's and Reds might not be a match on Bailey, but Jocketty might deem possibly-available pitchers like Gio Gonzalez or Trevor Cahill worthy of moving Alonso. The most logical match would appear to be Tampa Bay, who has a big hole at first base, lots of pitching and a need for a controllable young talent like Alonso. The Rays could offer Wade Davis or Jeff Niemann, though the Reds are more likely looking for a pitcher like James Shields. (Obviously David Price and Jeremy Hellickson are staying put.) I don't get the Alonso love unless we deal Paulie...that's the only way this makes sense
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 11:48 PM) Watching Maniscalco play >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Watching McCamey play +1 I'd like to add a few more >>>>'s too. While I appreciate their contributions and all...I've never been so happy to see a class leave in my life!
  14. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) He's a punk. A kind of guy you like on your team but hate on other teams. Since he was on Bradley, yes, I hate the dude. It's all right though. In his four years at Bradley he saw the Braves lose 6 of 8 meetings. I never watched Bradley...so I don't know. He seems like a good kid basically and a gritty player (grindy). I wish the Illini had him for more than one year.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) Ugh, Illinois is just not good. Where the f*** is Brandon Paul? What a waste. He should just dominate these games and he's a no show on the bench. Paul hasn't showed up yet...not sure wtf he's waiting for...but as for this team...just have some patience and enjoy the ride. They're very young. Nobody expects much this year but I have to tell ya I'll probably enjoy watching this team more this year than any of them the past 3 years. They're young and hungry. They'll have growing pains for sure...but the arrow is definitely point up for Illinois basketball.
  16. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 10:48 PM) Also, f*** Sam Maniscalco. My least favorite college basketball player ever not named Korver, Koch, or Emmenecker. Wow...really?!? I love what that dude brings to the table. This team has sorely needed a gritty player like him for a while...well...since Chet. Oh...and btw...Meyers Leonard is gonna be an absolute beast at some point. Not quite there yet...but damn.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 08:47 PM) Prepare for a beatdown in Oakland next week. They never play worth a s*** in Oakland anyway...without Cutler...forget it.
  18. You can't overcome losing Jay Cutler for the season...ever. Not this team.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 08:34 PM) Yeah, Lawrence Holmes mentioned that play. He grabbed with his throwing hand then fell on it and stayed down out of bounds for a bit. What a way to possibly end your season. Yeah...ending it with Knox falling on his ass. Goddammit. That's why I never have a problem seeing the QB just saying f*** it and letting those plays go by them.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 20, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) Seriously? WTF? When did this happen? Edit: apparently, he played the game despite the injury. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...0,3721060.story It was the INT when Knox fell on his ass and didn't get up to chase down the DB and Cutler had to... f*** ME!!!! This absolutely sucks ass!!! Depending on the severity...it really wouldn't surprise me to see him play thru it. Even if you're a Cutler hater (which I've never been)...this guy has shown a HUGE set of nads out there this year. He's been phenomenal...
  21. Not a big fan of the extra wild card teams either...unless you shorten the season. That old coot Selig is trying embellish handprint on the MLB...which is basically the equivalent of a skid mark in your shorts. Don't mess with the playoff format.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 12:38 AM) Deadspin HOLY CRAP!!! That's friggin amazing! Lucky bastard...
  23. AJ's actually pretty good with the mike in front of the camera... I've enjoyed listening to him over a lot of the boneheads they run out there.
