I certainly don't think the 2 spot is set in stone. Of course it's AJ's to lose right now...but over the course of the season I'm sure we'll see Gordo or Morel (both of whom are swinging great bats right now) in that spot at times. Robin's done fine so far. Besides lineups his biggest thing so far was when he had to go yank Molina in the middle of an inning. He's definitely a student of the game. I just wonder what he's always writing down all the time.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 8, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) Rangers announcers, still talking about Dunn's homer. Apparently it went completely over where the fans sit out in RF. It did. I remember seeing Cole Armstrong hit one like that in almost the exact same place in the AFL a few years back.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 7, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) Who are you going to bench to play Lillibridge everyday? Beckham, Rios, DeAza, Viciedo, Morel or Dunn? DeAza's the most "expendable" in terms of investment and future impact being replaceable...although clearly we would love to bench Dunn or Rios, it doesn't seem possible in either case, not until August at least. Understand that about Lilly...but Gordo needs to be on a short leash if offense in lacking IMO was the point...

Personally I didn't think Peavy pitched that bad at all and very easily could/should have been out of there with no run off of him. I thought Morel pegged the guy at 1st in the 1st inning...should have been out of the jam. In the 2nd...Alex Rios again displays he absolutely gets ZERO jump on any fly ball. Just stick his ass in LF and tell him to stfu. Overall another uninspired performance. How you keep Lilly out of the lineup is beyond me. AJ let probably 3 balls pass Mitchell absolutely crushed one Jordan Danks is nowhere near ready It's early but the bullpen has me concerned Damn I'm startin to love me some Morel...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 6, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) So how does Beckham's stance look? Trying to get that stock to come back up since he's one of the few I felt ballsy enough to get an authentic jersey of a couple years ago! Thing I notice about Beckham...and I'm sure somebody will correct me...but to me he had this "deer in the headlights" look last year. I really haven't noticed any drastic adjustments stance-wise...but he seems to have this serious/pissed off look on his face this year...all bidness. I might be reading into it a little...but that's what I've seen these first two games. Goin' again tomorrow. Best part of today was just getting some sun and drinkin' some beers. I hate driving out to that stadium... -
MLB officially announces 10-team expanded playoffs
Wanne replied to SoxFan1's topic in The Diamond Club
They should just go ahead and call this this "Boston Red Sox Statute"... Seriously WHY even do this? Just announce that every AL playoff...every year will have NY and Boston...the two other division winners and one wild card. Ridiculous... -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 5, 2012 -> 07:07 PM) Seems that Ventura plans to play Lillibridge on the infield (3B/2B and possibly SS...if there's no other INF, he'd have to play there too) and Fukudome as the 4th OF. I remember being a big advocate of having Lilly play 3rd...why not? Fuko is gonna be a great 4th outfielder...the relay to Gordo to peg a guy at the plate was sweet.

What's funny is a couple of guys behind the sox dugout (I was 2nd row) kept heckling Robin already about Molina. I mean...Jesus...already?!? Anyway...gotta say this...I know the Sox aren't considered a defensive team...but the up the middle combo of Gordo and Lexi is incredibly strong. Both of them made some incredible plays today...probably at least 5. The whole infield if strong IMO. Hoping Gordo turns it on at the plate tho....K'd twice. I'm really not sure how you can keep Dan Johnson off this roster...it'll be tough...but damn. Ozzie Martinez brain fart at second. Molina shelled...badly. Those are the only things that really stood out to me

I put this in the college thread...but I don't think all that many people venture into that thread...so mods...I apologize for the repost but I really think this story deserves it's own thread somewhere. It's gutwrenching and tugs at your heart. Kind of puts a few things into perspective too. Both of these men are amazing and I would hope every parent would do the exact same as Mr. Hahn. My heart goes out to Cory and his entire family. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-0226-p...,2164984.column

Not sure if any of you remember the story about the ASU kid who broke his neck last year in his freshman year. Here's the write up on it. This is truly a gutwrenching and inspirational story. It's what you hope every parent would be also. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-0226-p...,2164984.column

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 12:30 AM) This all just looks SO weird.

ASU has somewhat retooled a bit this year and came out on fire with the bats...and on cue I bragged them up to my dad and they promptly lost their first game. Currently 5-1. They've definitely got some sticks this year and I'm pretty high on their 3 freshmen pitchers who throw very hard...one of which is Bobby Bonilla's son Brandon...nice looking lefty with a very live arm. Unfortunately they're not eligible for post season this year (they should have just taken the penalty last year...and ended up getting completely hosed at Texas in the Super Regional. So the only goal they have is to win which appears to be a very strong Pac12 this year. I'm sure I'll be spending ample time in Tempe this spring between the baseball and softball teams.

What a bunch of s***! I have MLB Extra Innings...there are some BRUTAL broadcasting teams out there. Sometimes Hawk gets annoying...yes...but I couldn't imagine having anybody else right now. I do miss Wimpy...Stone bores me to tears. I wasn't a huge fan of DJ...but Stone just absolutely puts me to sleep. Worst team...hardly.
-
ok...I havent' followed this story very closely. Was it just because of a high testosterone count or was there a substance that was identified in his system?
-
Speaking of Bobby Bo...he made a nice one handed grab of a pop foul over the weekend from the stands at ASU. His son is a freshman LHP pitcher here...throws fairly hard too.

Actually I'm more excited about this spring than I have been in a long time. I think Robin is gonna do just fine...and it'll be very refreshing having his demeanor rather than the circus surrounding Ozzie. Maybe they'll actually work on fundamentals and come out of the gate swinging the first few weeks. But I also remember the euphoria after the first two games last year...only to go into a funk very quickly. I for one am not writing off this season by any means...

QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 20, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) Until Beckham proves he can take a BP fastball to right field instead of missing it by 3 feet no way should he be in the 2-hole. I've actually never liked him in the 2-hole, but when he was going oppo regularly I was okay with it. If he was gonna become the super star we though he was (back in '10?) I would have preferred him in the 6 or 7 slot. Now he needs to stay 8, but really 9 until he can prove he can hit again... And I agree, platooning the young guys would be an idiotic move by Robin. Let the young guys play and experience bumps and bruises along the way. Hiding them on the bench wont help their development and that's basically all this season is gonna be good for, getting Morel De Aza and Viciedo AB's and plenty of them to see what we got. For the most part I agree about Beckham being in the 2-hole...that's the first thing I thought. But thinking about it, it might be a good idea telling him this is your spot in the lineup for confidence reasons alone. You almost have to I think...this is his make or break year...so why not? As for platooning...unless Dayan completely comes out flat...no way I shuffle him in and out. The Sox traded CQ on the premise that Dayan was the future in the outfield...leave him out there...period.
