  1. Good lord...this is getting embarrassing...if not borderline comical.
  2. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) Way to old to be a real prospect anymore. I couldn't care less how old he is...if he can rake...who cares. Who would you rather have at the plate right now...Dunn or Gac? I've never seen the kid play...but that's a no-brainer.
  3. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) Graduated high school at 17 (August 10 birthday makes him about as young as you can get for a year in school) and was drafted out of high school. ahhh...thanks. Solved that mystery for me.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) scottmerkin Scott Merkin Make that 9th pro season for Gac, who is hitting .280, with 33 homers, 30 doubles and 93 RBIs. Has caught attention of organization how can he be 26 and have 9 pro seasons?
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 12:31 PM) It would be nice of you to actually quote something out of these imagined scenarios you present. Actually it was against Pavano. He was 0-17 against him. Can't remember who he hit the dingers off of the day before...
  6. Bottom line is Sox are gonna have to eat a very large chunk of either Rios or Dunn...or Peavy for that matter, to move any of them. Personally I applaud these organizations the do what's best for the team and cut their losses as best as possible. Does it suck...sure. I imagine Peavy will just have to do...Dunn....it's really hard to fathom another year like this unless he's so far gone now he's not even salvageable (which may be the case...and at that point he'd say Eff it IMO). That leaves Rios...he's really the only semi-movable piece I think moving him for another bad contract and pray it's a decent arm.
  7. On the Trib Front page: Should the White Sox give Guillen new deal? Ozzie Guillen says he wants to stay with the White Sox in 2012 and beyond -- if he gets a contract extension? Should the team give it to him? Yes. World Series-winning manager should stay as long as he wants. (842 responses) 33% No. He has worn out his welcome, so it's time to say goodbye. (1094 responses) 43% Maybe. Let's see how the Sox finish and what they do next season. (608 responses) 24%
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:36 PM) I have to admit that these last 3 games have just been a joy to watch with the youngins pretty much carrying us to victories. That being said, this is so bitter-sweet, we're not going to win the division but we really could have and probably would have had these obvious and necessary moves been made a few months earlier. Stupid f***in organization. It's the typical surge at the end of the year that keeps people's jobs and prevents whole sale changes...
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) Imagine if they infused this talent earlier. They needed to do something...anything...and they didn't. Their hand was forced on the infusion...and it's paid dividends!
  10. I'm just as excited about every one of these guys. I think Flowers has blown away any expectations. He's done a phenomenal job IMO...there's not reason to think he can't build on it. Like I said in a previous thread...(and granted it's the AFL)...but watching him hit just saying "damn". I'd have no problem handing the reins to Tyler right now. Not that I dislike AJ...I'm just ready for change. Same can be said for De Aza. What is there not to like about this kid? I'm not gonna sit here just waiting for a slump from him like it seems some might do. BTW...LOVED the Hawk rip on Rios about "being in the game" on the sinking liner De Aza snagged. Viciedo...he just needs to play...everyday. Good god...if Rios could be jettisoned...and outfield of CQ, De Aza and Viciedo would rock. Even if he can't be...this is what should be.
  11. Look forward to De Aza batting leadoff next year. Ya know...with Flowers emergence...if they could deal AJ for the right price...why not. Either way...these three guys MUST stick. Actually opens up the possibility of eating salary to dump some dead weight IMO...
  12. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 11:57 PM) I've always been pro-Flowers. Only basis I have for Flowers is what I saw in AFL (with Braves) a few years back...and all I kept saying was DAMN! Haven't followed him through the White Sox system. He's had terrible year last year. He's rebounded nicely. It's his time...
  13. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) The politics comparison was just to illustrate a point. Ozzie doesn't even have to do anything wrong anymore, whatever action he takes will be automatically regarded as the wrong move. If what he does works it's credited to luck, if it doesn't its his fault and he's left soley to blame. You cant really believe the refusal to call up Dayan Viciedo sabotaged our season, especially when our major offseason acquisition and high-potential 2B both wound up being busts. Nah...I gotcha. Agree to a point...but Ozzie doesn't help his own cause with his stubborness sometimes. I don't blame Ozzie for this season at all...but he has had some questionable decisions (mostly game time/lineup). But not one manager/GM could have overcome the complete crap season Dunn has endured. And btw...for as big of a negative person as I've been towards Beckham...DAMN...if this kid could just hit a consistant .275 or so...he'd be a consistant Gold Glove candidate with his D.
  14. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:19 PM) GAHH MY BASEBALL TEAM IS GOING TO WIN Ozzie Guillen is to Sox fans as Barack Obama is to right-wing talk shows. If there isn't a narrative to support the venom people will just make one up. He knew he was gonna face the questions as soon as he hit it...those are defensive statements. Nobody making anything up. His comments pretty much prove it. BTW...right-wing?!? BO's losing ground all on his own...and within his own party as well. You really wanna go there?
  15. I remember a few clamoring for De Aza...but wasn't Tyler coming off an injury? I'm glad he's gotten the chance. When he was obtained I thought he was the real deal. Remember watching him in AFL thinking...DAMN. Regardless...it's just nice seeing some youthful/talented exuberance up. I almost pray to God they can find a way to dump Rios and or Dunn this offseason. If Paulie doesn't want to be part of the rebuilding (and he deserves that option)...then LA or AZ I think would jump all over him. I'm ready for the rebuild...have been the past few years.
  16. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:12 PM) I'd say the bigger concern if that happened is the organization would be so pleased with the way the team fought hard and finished the season that they [would bring Guillen and Williams back. That is the true doomsday scenario. that's happened so many times already...and I don't expect next year to be any different.
  17. QUOTE (balfanman @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Let's say that the Sox get hot riding Viciedos' hot bat, Detroit cools off a bit, and the Sox finish only 1 or 2 games out of first. I would be soooo ticked off at O.G. & K.W. for letting their personal agendas get in the way of the team. It would be my personal opinion that Ozzie & Kenny should both be fired immediately after the season This part would/should happen You know this won't be the case. I don't really care where they go...as long as it's out of Chicago.
  18. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 07:08 PM) I'm glad he's pissed and defensive. Viciedo made him look like the idiot he is today in a big way today. You know as soon as Viciedo hit that dinger his brain was working in defense mode for questions that were gonna fly at him. Those weren't random remarks...he had a while to stew on 'em. You know the first word to pop into Ozzie's brain on the 3-run dinger was...."f***"!
  19. How sick would it be to go on a 10-12 game streak led by Viciedo, Flowers and De Aza...
