Advice needed, fairly quickly: Unbeknownst to me, I enrolled in an advertising class that involves both theory AND practice - in other words, I have to do some video editing. I've been advised to buy a portable external hard drive, in which 500 GB is a "good" amount of space and 1 TB is "plenty." I'm new to this market. Can someone tell me what to be looking for? I want something good, but I don't want to blow any more money than I have to at this point. I'll probably continue to use it beyond this course to back up my computer, which I've always wanted to do anyway.

If drone strikes are your top priority as q voter, you have to realize that Republicans in charge are extremely unlikely to end those policies. You may also feel that Democrats are unlikely to end those policies; you might be right, they might not end those policies (they have been unable and/or unwilling to do so, so far). Since they are, in the pessimistic view, equal on this issue, you move on to the next one on your list. Maybe human rights? Guess I'm voting Democrat.

I'm going to be working with Roger Scruton's How to Think Seriously About the Planet: The Case for an Environmental Conservatism in a course this semester, and I'm very excited. You probably watched the VP debate this last time and saw those things you don't like about Biden (I saw those things you don't like too) - he can be impulsive, too witty for his own good, etc. What you should also see is that he is a policy expert with unmatched legislative experience as he mopped the floor with the wiz kid Paul Ryan, who just couldn't stand a chance either due to deliberate misinformation, lack of knowledge, or (my guess) both. Biden may not be your or my favorite to be the next President, but he's a lot more qualified than just about anybody that has been considered for those positions recently. I like to think of McCarthy way back in the day -- the witch hunt was crazy, it hurt the country and the people in it, but we had the means to stop it. Some of the means was just the fact that Congress requires a lot of people to agree with you for things to happen, part of it is Congress slowing things down so that we have time to more calmly evaluate what is going on, and much of the rest is on the people (media included) to intervene, which they eventually did.
