This may merit some more discussion....
  2. Lol, TardTalk is our sister site I don't know if I'm giving up Tank for Shields. Tell them to take Floyd and like it ...blah maybe we should stand pat. The pitcher we acquire has to outperform DA/PH by a ton to make up for the lost run production in losing Tank
  3. So now Felix Hernandez is a $30M/year pitcher. Say what you want about the fairness of the contract, but very few teams can stand to simply add that much to their payroll for any reason.
  4. A good GM knows when to hang up the phone.
  5. I'd rather pay less for Garza or someone else that doesnt get picked up by the top teams due to the GM's initial high asking price.
  6. Too many insiders here to keep track of
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:59 AM) And so would any of the other teams that could offer them significantly better prospects/young MLB talent than what the Sox could. Just like with the Greinke deal I commented on earlier, could you imagine what the reaction on here would be if KW traded the best pitcher in baseball for two guys that were minor league free agents, a 2nd baseman that's been a bust and a non-top 100 outfield prospect? Greinke is worth very little to them at this point. The goal is getting a return better than a draft pick. Many of our proposed deals are a ton better than the odds on a comp round pick. The other bidders are also wary of the value of 10 starts from any pitcher.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) If the Sox wanted Felix Hernandez, it would probably have to be a deal involving Sale and Viciedo. Sale for Felix would be a huge loss for the Sox. You'd get far more in return for Sale than Felix with all that money owed.
  9. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:54 AM) I would gladly include both Viciedo and Quintana, and anything the hell else they want. You just have to think about winning this year and how hard that may be if JorDanks plays left and only drives in 15-20 runs the remainder of the season.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 11:52 AM) For Felix? Not a chance in hell would Seattle do that. Remember we're saving them 45+ million dollars too.
  11. Can't give up both Quintana and Viciedo. Quintana, ADA, Beckham, Mitchell. Go.
  12. I'd trade anything for Felix Hernandez on the other hand....
  13. You trade Reed away assuming he's not one of VERY few closers that are good enough to keep that role for 6 years. Sans a WS win, you'd feel bad about him actually closing that long for them if he did. This mentally weak stuff wouldn't be said about Zack if he didnt have a clinical condition. Gavin Floyd isn't mentally weak either, he's literally unflappable out there. He's just inconsistent. Occasional bad pitching =/= mental weakness
  14. I would give up Reed, but that's about the max. I don't value closers or relievers that highly.
  15. I'd give up a lot for Felix. A lot. That would be such a KW move
  16. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:53 PM) Why are so many people doubting the sox ability to win the central in this thread? With or without grienke I think we are better than the tigers. This might be a ban-worthy post.
  17. This isn't meant to be good or bad, but my assessment is that Zack is a big dork.
  18. Let Manuel know the managing would count if Leyland wasn't such a terrible manager.
  19. 1. It's very possible that Jose Quintana outperforms Zach Greinke the rest of this season. He has already outperformed him thus far. 2. Trading Gio Gonzalez, a minor leaguer, for Nick Swisher who was under contract is completely different than this. Nick was an accomplished MLB player and remains so. One has to wonder if the reason he had the one bad year in his career while here is because of the manager and/or coaches. It was a fair trade especially when you consider that Gio was not yet a major leaguer. Jose Quintana has had a run of starts that most major leaguers never get -- the player and contract we'd get in return is eons different as well and IMO is a far riskier trade than the Swisher deal. The Swisher deal should have had minimal risk but apparently he and Ozzie didn't mesh so he had to be an All-Star somewhere else.
  20. It wouldn't shock me if KW made that comment about Ichiro just to f*** with everybody.
  21. That sellout crowd went apes*** when Dunn went deep, it was awesome. Had to feel great to be in the good graces like that. We keep selling out and that whole home field advantage thing might come true.
  22. I want another guy to look at in case this doesn't go through/for leverage. You telling me we can't get Garza for a package like this?
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 03:29 PM) yep. I was thinking about that the other day. Thanx. lol, so much easier to figure out which thing you're responding to than it used to be QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) Damn, greg. You didn't know how to do that? That's almost as bad as you not knowing Jason is the site owner. Who is Jason? Are you the site owner? Is this a Cubs website?
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 03:27 PM) Viciedo can frustrate the hell out of me, but when he starts raking you think he might be a superstar hitter someday. Maybe KW is frustrated by his approach and thinks he'll never make it big. I'd be scared to deal him for a rental, though. Very true. I'd go for that. That's bad. I want Johnson. Buehrle would be an awesome feel/good move as well. I don't know what benefit you get in giving up a guy who looks like he knows how to pitch (Q) for Greinke's 10 starts. I guess once again the Sox are trying to position themselves for a deep playoff run with Greinke, Sale, Peavy, Danks or Floyd being our postseason starters. Sox may feel it's worth the game. We could win a WS with that staff, however, the trick is getting there. Detroit after making that trade figures to run away and hide, which leaves us the Wild Card race and one game playoff if we make it. You must be so happy I taught you to reply in between the quotes in multi-quote posts
  25. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 02:40 PM) Yeah, it's tough, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Sarah Kustok is leaving CSN as well. The times they are a-changin'. NOOOOOOOOOOOO
