QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 28, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) Even if you take Sweeney's huge contract out of the equation, he can only play 1st base and he's horrible there. We have Konerko and Frank coming back to play 1B and DH. Where in the hell would Sweeney play? Not gonna happen. Oh, yeah, by the way, we have a guy coming back with the last name of "Choad."
-
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 28, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) Why would we ever trade for Sweeney? We have a 1st baseman already and we have a DH coming back. Also, Sweeney is a horrible defensive 1st baseman and he has a huge contract. We won't be going after Sweeney, I can almost guarantee you that. I'll stick to it...something to keep an eye on.
-
Although I'm sick and tired of these threads, a guy like Mike Sweeney will be very interesting to watch. Also, save the, "but they play in the same division" line. If the Royals find a way to better their god-awful club by unloading a nasty, nasty contract and stocking up on young talent, they won't care who Sweeney goes to. EDIT: Before ya'll start asking, I believe he is in line for $12M next season.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 28, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) Mr. Harris is known for many things...drawing walks is not one of them.
-
Random piece of information per ESPN Radio 1000, Aardsma is the alphabetically first player in the history of baseball.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ May 28, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Nice to see that Gload is finally getting some respect. Gload and Willie have to stay. Willie can actually draw walks, work counts, and will hit above .270. Gload will do good, he might not be flashy. But with guys on base he is going to make contact, work the field, and atleast be a complete player. SB :puke :puke

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 28, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) How is it possible that the Cubs continue to fleece teams like this. Jerome Williams has the potential to be a stud in the big leagues for years to come. Latroy Hawkins is a piece of s***. Aardsma has an even brighter future than Williams. Truly, the Giants got fleeced. The Cub fans ought to gloat over this trade for awhile...lord knows they have nothing else to be happy about.

What a great trade by the Cubs. This is a very, very impressive move from Jim Hendry. Aardsma might end up being the jewel of the trade.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 28, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) While ejecting the players that were "right"? There's protesting, and then there's using profanities, getting personal, etc. Obviously, these players crossed the line, as they were, in fact, correct. So, yes, they were "right." EDIT: Anything else? Would you like fries with that?

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 28, 2005 -> 10:34 AM) I don't think you can say that without actually seeing it. The Charlotte manager said it was clearly foul and the home plate umpire botched the call. When the opponet protested, they talked to the crew chief and the other umpires and reversed the call. The Knight's manager wasn't even upset about the reversal because he knew how badly they call was botched. Naturally, I actually heard this come out of his mouth on the Carmen and Silvy show, but, what do I know.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 28, 2005 -> 03:12 AM) Thanks. Wow. It sounds like those minor league umps are placed exactly where they should be. They reversed the call and got it right; they did exactly what they were supposed to do.
-
Excellent. It seems everything is falling into place. 1. Get a healthy Hernandez back into the rotation. 2. Send McCarthy back down to Charlotte to pitch every fifth day. 3. Drop Kevin Walker to reactivate Ross Gload. 4. Drop Timo to reactivate Frank Thomas.

Finally, a gamethread to bring home to Momma. Let's get that 9th win big Jon.

Mac Jurko and Harry had a good idea today

I'll bring the Dr. Pepper. BTW, why would we greet a team at the airport in May? Last time I checked, we have four more months of baseball. Sorry, but this team hasn't won a damn thing. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 27, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) He wasn't aiming that sarcasm at you, he was aiming it at the guy at roto that wrote it. Correct. Sorry for the confusion.

You are an excellent poster--truly, first class--but, I'm with K on this one. Anderson belongs in Charlotte and should play his ass off and hope to find his way on a late-season roster. Now is not the time.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 27, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) The classless Cubs fans throw back a Preston Wilson homerun ball in a 9-3 rout. What maroons. So help me god, if you don't stop watching that game Aidan, I'll see to it your ass is banned. -

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ May 27, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) Part of the reason that there are 7 pages is that we all get this game, the radio stations that talk about it, and there is nothing else on tv on a Friday afternoon! DING. DING. DING. Hot dog, we have a weiner! This isn't quantum physics; yet, some love the labeling game. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 27, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Pat Hughes on WGN 720 is saying that they are going to wait until after the game to make the announcement on Prior. STOP REPORTING ON THE INJURY. YOU ARE A SOX FAN REMEMBER? WATCHING A MARK PRIOR-PITCHED GAME MAKES YOU LESS OF A SOX FAN. ...dips***. -

You elitests are cracking me up. "We are Sox fans. They are Cubs. Sox no like Cubs. Who Cares." One of the better, young, injury-ridden pitchers went down to one of the hardest come-backers I have ever seen. Get over yourselves. -

QUOTE(Steff @ May 27, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) My boss just called me from the game asking for details.. he said Prior looked like he was in massive pain. Undoubtedly. Looking at his reaction and the reaction of the trainers, I have little doubt something isn't seriously wrong. It looked like it hit the elbow RIGHT ON THE BUTTON. I'm thinking fracture. -

AddisonStSox replied to AddisonStSox's topic in The Diamond Club
He's done for the day. He just got hit in the right arm, he's already welting near the right elbow. As soon as they stood him up, he walked off the field. This could be disasterous. -
Watching the Cubs game and Mark Prior just got SMOKED with a come-backer. Uh-oh. He looks like he's hurt badly. I mean, real badly.

QUOTE(sayitanitso @ May 27, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) per rotoworld Bobby Jenks - S - CWS Bobby Jenks struck out five of the six batters he faced to earn his 12th save for Double-A Birmingham yesterday. He gave up one hit. Jenks has a 2.31 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 23 1/3 IP as Birmingham's closer. He's probably not going to a factor in Chicago this year, but he's becoming a very good relief prospect. May. 27 - 2:28 pm et No kidding? Get outta here. He was only considered one of the best arms in the Angels system, if not the whole league. I really think we have our set-up man of 2006 lined up. Shingo, you're plane is boarding.
-
I heard we got that Frank Thomas guy coming up soon. He sounds like he can hit the ball consistantly and who knows, maybe he'll have a high obp.
