QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 05:28 PM) I hope this is serious, calling someone like Peart a god amongst insects...I'm not quite sure how to take that...just in case you were making fun of Peart, you get this : Oh goodness no. Maybe you'd be more comfortable with, "a god amongst men?" I've been a drummer since age 4 and in awe of Peart since age 10.

QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) We should trade Willie Harris for Neil Peart. -y2 Neil Peart is a god amongst insects. I have idolized Peart since the third grade.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 05:17 PM) So Bruce Levine thinks Harris will be traded, eh? What a shock. It's one thing to have depth, it's quite another to have depth in the form of guys who can play well off the bench. And, depth that can play multiple positions per the team needs. In this case those needs are middle infield and also 3B. That ain't Harris. On this attitude discussion w/Harris ... I was reading another board and someone who was there said Harris, while signing autographs during his session , was talking on his cell phone. Did anyone see that? Does anyone think that's maybe a little clueless (rude) on his part? Isn't the idea to provide a bit of personal interaction with the fans? Jim, although I can't speak directly to that, while I was at the fourth of July game at Wrigley Field this summer, while Willie was standing around during BP, he treated my kid brother like garbage. My brother was simply asking for one of the dozens of balls laying around the infield (literaly 6 inches from Willie) and he refused to do it. Later, when we were on the field taking pictures with a Cub photographer (and friend of the family) Sandy Alomar took my brother aside and gave him a few balls and signed one of them. When asked if it was a hassel, Sandy commented, "Oh no. Its my pleasure. I'm glad to see so many Sox fans here." Sandy was great. Jamie Burke was also extremely fan-friendly and more than willing to sign for the kids. I did hear Willie was rapping at the Soxfest autograph table though.

Can anyone change the font of "AddisonStSox" in my sig? I don't know if its difficult or anything. I was thinking something along the lines of the script used in Gold's Air Gordon sig. If thats not doable, any kind of cool script or graffiti lettering. Thanks in advance.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 05:00 PM) with this signing ive been wondering if maybe we might trade harris garland and a prospect for a decent starter Easy there big fella. We don't even know if Harris is going to be moved. I think Kenny has done a bang-up job this off-season and would lose a lot of people if he traded Garland. Leave the rotation as is. Trade Harris in what promises to be a more than willing market.

QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) robbie signed with the d-rays that's right. Thanks! Maybe the cards would be a great fit. Nice idea Punch.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) I bet the Cardinals would have some interest in WIllie. They put up with Marlon Anderson and he is even worse. Tony loves guys who can play outfield and infield in the NL game. Could be a fit there. Maybe we could pick up a middle reliever for him. They signed both Grudz and Robbie Alomar (I think), as well as David Eckstein. Perhaps there would be some interest.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) No, but there is steroid testing now. you can't test for USCF dimensions last time I checked. I'm deeply vexed. So, your implying steroid use?

and does that take into account he'll be playing in USCF?

Well, Captain Buzzkill, I'm going to say: .300/.370/26HR/82RBI/30SB

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) How the mighty hath fallen. Jeez, if you can loose faith from the blindedly ingnorant Cub-faithful, you have really earned it. -
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) Addison, let's end this petty s***. My apologies for pushing the envelope, I was a real jag for saying that your hatred for Harris is "ignorant", as I put it. I'm just looking to instigate a fight by saying that, so I apologize for that. We have our different opinions on Harris, neither of which will change (most likely). My bad for any jabs at you. A good baseball argument got a little heated, I guess, ehh? Peace? Yeah, I was caught a little off guard. I'm usually with you 110% on your ideas. Peace. Here's hoping we can drink some of the Black and Silver Kool Aid together in the not too distant future. :sosasucks

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) Doesnt anyone think its a little too soon to pull the plug on willie???? Yes. Many posters believe its too soon to pull the plug. The lines have been drawn on the issue and I think its shaping up to be all about playing time/opporutnity/potential. I'm thinking thats the krux of the argument. If I'm off on this assesment, I'd like to know why. Honestly (not being a smart ass here).

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) Very interesting, thanks much for the info. The Reds wanted some insurance, seeing as one of their SS candidates is stuck in Venezuela with a knee problem. I did read the Larkin article last week, and the agent says Larkin has not found the perfect situation yet. Teams are pursuing him though ... notably Washington. The Sox were mentioned very loosely ... in terms of pursuing middle IF help. Longshot. Yeah, good info on Aurilia. BTW, did anyone catch the guy the Yanks picked up for their utility infielder? Rey Sanchez. Now, why would the Yankees, the kings of payroll, sign a guy like that? Hmm.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) Keith ... I think it goes deeper than just wanting what they feel is an upgrade (Iguchi over Harris). Stats wise, strictly stats wise, Harris had a decent year and it would be easy for them to say "he is still young, let's give him another year". Instead, they busted their ass to find a new 2B. The White Sox are not historically noted to pursue upgrades when they feel they have a good enough solution already in house. We need a new angle. This logical explaination for our position on the matter isn't coming across.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) :rolly No need to add the Jesus H statement, but whatever. No need to call RockRaines "spike", but whatever. It's not rocket science. If you believe a player is going to give you a .300 AVG with 20 HRs, and 70 RBIs -- at 3 million -- who isn't going to take that over a guy who's going to hit .250-.280...? That isn't the debate, though. Or at least I hope it isn't. You've been a real trooper through all this and I want to applaude you. You're that guy that won't settle for anything less than being told, "you are right," aren't you. Will that make this temper tantrum cease? YOU ARE RIGHT KEITH. Have a cookie, but whatever. :rolly

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:17 PM) That statement says a a lot about what the Sox thought about Harris. Jesus H' Tapdancin' Christ. Thank you.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) That problem is borne to light by the signing of Iguchi. No problems with Harris = no signing of Iguchi. That aspect is, to me, quite obvious. Here, Here. Do our opinions matter? No. Not one bit. Do the opinions of multiple people in the Sox organization matter? Once again...Harris has expierenced a fall from grace for a reason. Do I know what it is exactly? No. It could be a variety of different things. Maybe its attitude (as has been indirectly referenced many, many times). Maybe Kenny wants a guy that can hit LHP. Maybe Ozzie wants a guy that can use his tools and steal bases effectively. I don't know. I'm just a lousy fan, but I'd like to think I'm astute enough to catch these red flags.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) You are implying that you are an educated sox fan, and I am not. Of course your evidence for this is that you say that all along, sox fans always wanted arow and knew he was going to turn it around because he had NO attitude problems. You seem to forget so soon that most sox fans were calling to get rid of arow after his 258 .298 .394 .692 season. You better believe that there were issues of possible desire and attitude problems backing up getting rid of him. Luckily they decided that experience and offseason work may make arow turn the corner. It worked. And now he is one of the most popular, as well as hard working players. Willie has some issues, but anyone would after getting dumped on by fans like you. I just think, that we need another full season to determine whether or not he is expendable. He could turn into a good role player, if he is used correctly. His year last year is actually pretty equal is not better than a-rows year mentioned above. Im not saying he will be a star, but I think he deserves some more time. Lovely. Opinions are like... Relax spike, I wasn't implying anything. You asked if people got down on Aaron the same way they are getting down on Harris; I think the answer is "no." IMHO, these are two very different situations. If you think his body of work has merited more time, then you give it to him.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 12:55 PM) That really doesn't make a lot of sense. You were calling for the Sox to trade Harris for a minor leaguer, whatever they could get for him. If Iguchi wasn't brought in, was Valdez gonna start at second? But, I guess anything is better than Harris, right? :rolly Ugh'. Back to work. I wanted Vizquel. I wanted Cora. I wanted Cairo. I wanted Womack. I wanted Eckstein...pattern? Someone was going to be brought in. It happens to be Iguchi. I anticipated someone coming in because of the comments about Willie coming from inside the Sox organization. Wheter you want to admit it or not, the Sox have fingered Willie as an attitude problem. If Harris stays on the Sox, I want nothing more than for him to succeed and be a productive member of the Sox; however, I think it would better serve the Sox to trade him for something of value i.e. a gritty, veteran middlle infielder or some type of prospect. If they can't get the utility middle infielder via the Harris trade, try free agency. This goes beyond my "blind hatred" for Harris; it simply doesn't make sense to have him on the roster. We need a vet that can play multiple (at least two, hence, if either Uribe or Iguchi, hell, or Crede goes down, someone can step right in) infield positions and do so without having to go through some sort of learning process. What more do you want from me?

QUOTE(JimH @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) Lots of innuendo though. I don't think you will ever hear people associated with the team come out in a quote and say, "this guy Willie Harris ... he is not a good fit attitude-wise on this team. He's afraid to steal bases, he's inconsistent, but worst of all he walks around the clubhouse like he's big man on campus when in reality he hasn't proven a damn thing." Guillen, Harrelson, Jackson, Dave Wills, John Rooney are all guys who have made some pretty strong negative observations about Harris. To me, that's a lot of smoke to have no fire. As for an opportunity to prove himself, everybody always wants more of an opportunity. He did have a reasonable opportunity in 2004, and he did ok. My position all along is there are deeper issues than just his stats. If there weren't, the Sox wouldn't have gone to all ends of the earth to find another 2B. On that note. I'm going to exit the Harris debates for a while. You hit nearly every point I was going to make in my next post. I couldn't agree with you more. I've responded to so many Rah-Rah Harris claims that I feel I have adequately backed myself up. Thanks for your time. Go Sox. EDIT: as for Keith...I never once addressed Iguchi flopping because this problem goes far beyond Iguchi. In fact, it has nothing to do with Iguchi. If Iguchi wasn't brought in, I still would have been calling for a trade. C'mon man. :banghead
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) Addison -- Since you're so positive that Iguchi is sure to be the .300+/20+/70+ lock, what happens if he flops...? Woa......................who ever said that? No offense Keith...but you are way off the mark with that one.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 24, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) What this signing makes out of Willie Harris is trade bait. He is a commodity that has some value. I would not be upset with us entering the season with WH being our starting 2B, if we had a veteran UIF on the roster. However, considering all the not so subtle remarks from Ozzie and KW about Harris, I feel like his ticket out of town was written a few weeks ago. Exactly, and if attitude isn't enough reason to send him packing, take a look at the bench. The Sox need a proven utility MI that can play multiple positions, and that is something Harris just can't do. So, although many of you are aware of my hatred towards Harris, I have to think he's gone based on the lack of depth in the MI. I'd love to see Harris moved for a utlity infielder or some kind of bullpen arm/prospect. Clean out the locker son. EDIT: Anywho, how about that Kenny Williams!? Bravo. Amazing work.
