  1. Disclaimer: This is not a rumor; nor is it hearsay; nor is it conjecture of any kind. Just trying to gauge peoples' interest; if there was a deal set where Kenny would send Willie Harris for Tony G., would you do it?
  2. Its about damn time. This team has been exposed and its about damn time they have the L to prove it. Sorry Rock Chalkers.
  3. In all sincerity, this is what I would like to see happen. Step 1: Sign Iguchi. Step 2: Test the trade market for Harris. In my trade thread, I mentioned Harris amongst the Sox I figured to be expendable. Although some of us have issues with Harris on the Southside , there are many teams out there that would like a rangey, speedy second baseman. If Harris can bring in a utlity MI on a MLB roster or 2 prospects in high A ball, I think that is the route Kenny should go. I know some of you would like Harris to come off the bench as a glorified "pinch runner," but look at last year's steals total. That was the final nail in the coffin. Although Rock may be able to improve his read on the basepaths, I don't think he'd make the improvements necessary to develop into a Juan Pierre or even the Sox's own Scooter Podsednik. Step 3: If the market for Harris is worse than anticipated, hold on to the goofball. In the very least, he can spot start and pinch run if necessary; then, dump him when you feel confident in either a farmhand for our own system or a gritty vet via free agency. Thoughts...?
  4. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) Never thought i would see jeckle like this. Me neither. That's why I'm so excited. ...plenty of room left.
  5. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) This is why we need to get rid of Harris as soon as a replacement secondbasemen in signed. Welcome aboard the S.S. Dump the Wee One.
  6. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) And guess what? This thread is in the wrong forum. It should be in "The Sports Bar". Brilliant. You've added nothing of value in any thread you post in. EDIT: Read the orignal post and tell me why this doesn't belong in here. You can read...right?
  7. I think she was looking for the ball pit.
  8. QUOTE(bogie @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) With Uribe as the starter who is our backup shortstop? Hypothetically, if Uribe had to leave a game opening day who would go play short? Wilson Valdez? Yes.
  9. QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jan 22, 2005 -> 12:13 AM) I understand what you're saying, But Cotts can't go to the Minors cause we got no other Lefty. I think Kenny is looking at Vizcaino's Numbers to get lefties out too. Which IMHO is kinda stupid Yes. You're right. Cotts isn't going anywhere. I don't even know if he should go anywhere. But, I do know this: Nelson wouldn't be detremental to our bullpen. A healthy Nelson would give the Sox one of the strongest pens in recent memory. I'm 98% sure Kenny is done with the bullpen; however, when I saw Nelson might sign for a minor league deal, sirens went off.
  10. QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) I don't know if you knew this, but Jeff Nelson has been a long reliever, Hermanson is a long relief candidate as well. So by letting Cotts go to the minors to learn another pitch and stretch his innings as a starter, and having a much better pitcher in his place on the major league is a bad idea? You've gotta be kidding me. No...No...see, he said it. Which makes it correct. Nelson has both set up and pitched long relief in his career. Allowing Cotts to go to the minors and allowing a veteran pitcher take the mound would be detremental to this ballclub.
  11. I think I'm going to save my excitement until I hear it from Levine, or Offman. I didn't see it on any Iguchi websites. However, I want nothing more than for this rumor to be true. Fingers Crossed.
  12. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) My japanese friend read on Iguchi Website that he is in chicago taking a physical and according to Iguchi agent it is close to getting done a 2 yr deal for 5.85 and a team option for a 3 yr year. I dont live in Chicago so was wondering has this been reported by any chgo radio station.. Aren't you the same guy from California that came up with all those Giants rumors? Durham, Nen!? ...cause, I think you are. EDIT: You also posted this a while back... I just heard Mel Antonnen from USA Today on sporting news radio on Sirius that the Sox offer Iguchi a 3year 9-10M deal.. I dont know if this mean we are going to sign him Fishy.
  13. QUOTE(babybearhater @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) If you have nothing to say to defend your opinion and perspective than dont post buddy. Face it, we both know you wouldnt want nelson instead of the two righty set up men that we have. So your point is dead, and all you can do now is try and attack me instead of the topic. Which will never work. So make like chief illiniwek and fade away. OUT Oh my god. Nelson, a perenial big-game pitcher and one-time All Star, or Neil Cotts/Jon Adkins. Tough call. Don't formulate others' arguments for them. A healthy Nelson>>>Cotts and Adkins. As much as I like Cotts, he needs one more year in minors to develop another pitch. Something to chew on... Per Yahoo "Pitching for the New York Yankees from 1996-2000, Jeff help the team win four World Series titles by going 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 13 World Series games. Jeff had a 0.00 ERA in the 1996, 1998 and 1999 World Series, throwing a combined 9.1 innings in 10 games." Nah, I don't want that experience. EDIT: Let's make this painfully clear. This isn't a post CALLING for the signing of Jeff Nelson, or EXPECTING the signing of Jeff Nelson. Kenny has done a tremendous job with the pen this off-season and can stand pat. However, a pitcher of Nelson's calibur is never a bad thing. As I said in post #1, this is simply a guy Kenny should "look into."
  14. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) Huh? I'm not suggesting all Japanese players are bad risks. If the scouts like him, I have no problem w/ the Sox signing him. The reason I bring up Kaz's fielding is that these are both middle infielders, coming over mid-career. I wholly believe Kaz was a very good fielder in Japan. To play as horribly as he did last year, there has to be some problem adjusting. Since 2b requires roughly the same skills as ss (not exactly, but they are similar), it's useful information -- I'm not comparing them just b/c they're Japanese. Hideki's play in the field means squat for Taguchi, imo. Oh no, I didn't mean it like that. There are posters who want to discard Iguchi based solely on what Kaz has/or hasn't done in NY. Perhaps Kaz doesn't have the necessary ability to translate his game in order to succeed in the MLB. Remember: We have the "Sod Father" in Roger Bossard.
  15. QUOTE(babybearhater @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) I quoted you on one small part and then addressed the other pro-nelson posts. Thanks for the informative post though, its really helped. You're quite welcome. Your baseball brillance is an inspiration to us all.
  16. QUOTE(babybearhater @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) Well thanks for your opinion on it. But saying that Nelson would be a good additon to our bullpen over what we have now is idiotic. You are talking about a 38 year old who makes almost 2 million dollars, who is obiously in the downslide in his career. He had to have surgery, barely could throw at all last year and has a delivery which is conducive to elbow trouble. As for being a good guy like you said you "heard" you are so quick to forget a problematic set up guy for the mariners who lashed out against the front office and the management and brought about a trade so they could rid themselves of his personality. Not to mention the bullpen fight which included him as well. And saying that he will be more valuable than cotts is yet to be seen. He is a 24 year old lefty who is basically getting better as he gets more experience. Not to mention he has the ability to throw long innings of relief. These two arent even really comparable as neil is not a set-up guy and either is adkins. If you want to compare Nelson to the people he would be competing against for the set up role, you would be talking about polite and hermanson. And if you would rather have Nelson than one of those guys, then that would be a correct comparison. I never once said anything about his attitude. Don't quote me. Get your s*** straight.
  17. My cousin's partner was the officer responsible for that arrest. Apparently Terrell was speeding and driving without license and registration. They brought him into the station, tossed him in the cell, and laughed in his face. My cousin said a friend of his told David, "This is for dropping 4 passes last week." Terrell is a scum bag. Luckily, we saw the last of David Terrell in a Bears uniform.
  18. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) What gives me pause is all the trouble Kaz had in the field last year, and he was supposed to be a wiz. If grass were really just easier, he should have excelled. For every Kaz, there's an Ichiro. For every Hideo Nomo, there's a Hideki Matsui. Although it's important to consider the trends of Japanese ballplayers and their transition to the MLB, it's not eveything. Its all about the individual. The Sox are the kind of team that needs to gamble on guys to compete with the big spenders. Iguchi is a calculated risk that may or may not pay off. If he does, Kenny just signed the 2b of the future at a great rate. Worst case scenario: he flops, try and trade him for a prospect (per Chan Ho Park, etc.).
  19. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) I would love to hear how Carnell is overrated. The guy rushed for 3831 yards and 45 td's in 42 games and averaged 5.2 yards a carry for his career while splitting time with Ronnie Brown. I can almost guarantee that Carnell will have a better 40 time and better quickness at the combines. But we will see. This is coming from someone that played against Benson in high school. But, wait...according to him, Eli was overrated. :headshake You're not the #1 selction of the draft and the head of the quarterback class without good cause. Carnell will be a prime back in the NFL. Eli will be a prime quarterback for years to come; neither one of these guys are busts. That statment was just downright goofy.
  20. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Iguchi seems like the Sox' fall back option. But he's still a question mark where the sox have a few up the middle already, and in the #2 hole. But I still think the sox are looking to upgrade more than Iguchi, as Iguchi has been around for a while sitting there for the sox to sign. I disagree 100%. Kenny knows something we don't. Cora was there for the taking, as was Cairo; neither of which are on the White Sox. Kenny hasn't shown any interest in trading for the 2b of the future. None. Zero. The 2b should come via free agency; no ifs, ands, or buts about it. This team is ready to rock and should not rob Peter to pay Paul. EDIT: Iguchi is not a fall back option. He's the main target and the only guy the Sox organization has talked about for the MI since missing on Vizquel.
  21. That's far too steep a price for Castillo. If, in fact, the Marlins are in as dire a situation as you would like us to believe, the goal is to get Castillo at a bargin, not through overpaying. Jurassic will be a contributor in 2005. Cotts will be a contributor in 2005, 2006, and beyond. With the new contract proposal from the Iguchi camp, I think whatever chances Castillo had of coming to the Southside and quickly fading.
  22. QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 12:18 PM) But you saying that he would be a worthless addition to our bullpen is idiotic. I also had issue with that statement. Insanity.
  23. QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) Signing him to a minor-league contract means we have no obligation, and if he proves healthy, our bullpen would be ridiculous. Ridiculous. Well put. My sentiments exactly.
  24. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jan 21, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) Actually, no. Iguchi made 240,000,000 Japanese Yen last season which is equal to around $2.3 million U.S. Dollars. The article says that Iguchi's agent is asking for a 2-year, $6 million contract to come to the White Sox. That would be an increase in what he made last season unless of course some Japanese team offered him more money. Ok, makes sense. I heard a $4M figure somewhere; I was under the impression that was what he was going to make in 2005. Regardless, pull the trigger. Low-risk, High reward. I say low-risk, because although you aren't paying him tradtional "Sox low-risk" money, you have to consider Wilson Freaking Valdez is the utlity MI. Although he hasn't seen one pitch in the MLB, I have to think he's more major leagure ready than Valdez. Game three, Harris goes down with a torn ACL, Valdez gets the start. Ouch. Do it. Do it Kenny. Do it.
  25. Per Rotoworld The Mets are interested in signing Jeff Nelson to a minor league contract. Nelson should be able to get a major league deal from someone. He was injured and ineffective for the Rangers last season, but it was the first time since 1999 he had posted an ERA over 4.00. Wow. My guy is still available and it looks like he'll be coming cheaply. IMHO, Kenny really should check this out. I love Nelson; when he's on, he can set-up, pitch long relief, and brings an attitude to the ballpark every day. If he can be had for a minor league contract, Kenny may want to look into this. For the first time in years, our bullpen is a team strength...a healthy Nelson would make it one of the most intimidating pens in all of baseball. Git er' Done!
